Training at the Junction

Short sharp skills session at the Junction oval this morning in cool drizzly conditions. 24 of the 25 selected players took part including Rivers and Spencer. I didn't see Rohan Bail on the ground or any of the Casey squad for the gold coast match, although Cheney and Johnson made a brief appearance near the stands. Tapscott and Gawn also spotted, but remained inside.

Great to see Morton, Blease, Wonna and Bell take part in the full training with no signs of any limp from Blease. Morton must be very close to a return.

Jurrah spent a fair amount of time on the ground before the main session practicing his goalkicking, plus a short kick to kick with one of the trainers. He took a few marks overhead with no signs of discomfort, and despite the weather, he didn't wear leg-ins!!!

Fitzpatrick also trained before the main group.

The session lasted an hour. No injuries and not many fumbles. They looked good.

Rohan Bail is the stiffest bloke on our list.

Thanks for the report

Good that there were few fumbles in drizzly conditions, and to hear that signs are positive for the rebab group. Thanks for the feedback DD DDC

I agree - was very good for a couple of weeks before being out last week! Thought he would have walked straight back in?!

No one is going to walk back into this side, that's what the club should aim for.

Who at the moment would want to put in a bad game? Players breathing down your neck to take your spot.

Helps to get rid of complacency around the club that's for sure.

Rohan will get back in for sure-but when is not known.

This sort of internal competition will help win the club more games than we might expect.

is that the same for Jack Watts & LJ? are they going to stay out of the side until they prove themselves? What happened to getting games into the young boys?

If that is the case JW will not get a game for a while, he has been good but not good enough for a call up to the senior side.

I don't think there should be any favorites on our list.

That was the Reverends ND's biggest drawback i believe.

If the Team is all playing well you can't drop someone barring injury. The days of list management are over, winning is what we should be aiming for now.

L J & JW will get there chance, but without the red carpet is all i am saying. The kids who are playing right now are totally knocking me out, & they deserve to be in the side. B)

Agree 100%.

However I am dying to see Watts play again, the 1 and only time I have watched him was QB, and that was a bad debut for him. So I would like an exception on the rule on this occasion.. But for whom??? The are playing so well as a group.

I want to see Jack Watts play as well, just as much as you do. But i want the club to build a strong culture. This is the perfect time to do it.

No Favorites and get into the senior side on form and availability of spots. For every player who puts on our jumper.

Example-Tomorrow, if any of the team get ahead of themselves they will know they are playing at casey next week.

It's a great position to be in, one that i cannot remember at Melbourne-A lot of team standards can be set in stone this year.

This is where i think Bailey excells as a teaching coach.

Agreed. Only when he is ready and only when we need him. #1 Pick means squat now. He is just another name on the list the will be played when the MFC decides that he will contribute more than the man he replaces in the team. If that is next week then good; if it is next year then good too. As long as he is fit and ready when he does get a run I can wait. I've waited 39 years for a flag so I can wait for however long it takes for the MFC to be satisfied Jack is up to the task. I am confident it is a when and not if situation.

I'll expand on a couple of things i saw yesterday.

The was a post from earlier this week saying that Sam Blease was limping (after his first match for Casey reserves) so it was terrific to see no sign of any limp. He took part in the full session that was shortened to kicking and some ball control work. He can kick with both feet but prefers his right.

I'm not a medico, but i thought it was interesting that Jurrah was taking marks above head height. It's a bit like changing a lightbulb; it's not a complicated or load bearing action but it does require some extra movement from the shoulder. Any medicos out there? Please comment.

Bell, Blease and Wonna were all selected for the scorpion reserves team so they joined in with the main session.

Fitzpatrick is not selected for Scorpions reserves but did some individual kicking practice. He looks fit so they may be giving him a break to manage his chronic fatigue syndrome. His kicking was ok, perhaps too much height and lacking a bit in distance. I wonder if they can improve someone's kicking style so they kick longer and lower? Jurrah was shooting from about 30 metres out and trying to get the ball to fly through at just under post height. The end result is that the ball lands about 20-30 metres past the posts. It seemed easy, but then Jurrah is Jurrah.

Obviously the players are in very good spirits after 3 wins in a row, yet they were still very keen to execute the skills correctly. There was an earlier post about Petterd pulling up sore after the brisbane match, but he looked ok and completed the session.

We appear to have 22 players who look fit and ready to reverse our poor recent form against North. We have no excuses today. GO DEES

On the occasional calls for "playing the kids", that's what we're doing!! Besides Junior, Bruce, Green, Joel Mac & Davey our team right now consists of young blokes. We've just got so much youth on our list that there will always be talented kids waiting for a game. Exciting huh?!

Bail didn't front up for Casey, either. He has not fully recovered from bad corky, according to the Casey runner yesterday. Hopefully he'll be right for Friday night.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
