Jordy Gysberts

Hey, I'm certainly not delisting him :)

I'd just rather keep other guys before Petterd.

Same here.

We're in the fortunate situation now of having a large stockpile of talented players coming into the "right age bracket"

making them valuable commodities.

Highly unlikely, but if GC17 came a knocking with pick 5 in return for Petterd, i'd take it.

And as much as I love watching Ricky go about it, I'd rather see him go than Grimes, Frawley or Morton

et al.

(sorry Ricky)

Gys was likened to a Joel COrey type of player drafted by Barry P.

That'd be handy.

Having seen his last two games live, I am becoming rather bullish about Jordy. He has great hands, is at home inside traffic, makes good decisons, has height, is not slow and will develop physically over the next couple of years. Looks to have a real future.

gysberts is a gun enough said.

not only are we only 8 weeks into the real football season, but he has not even been listed for a year. he will be an absolutely amazing player, and why every body is getting on his back is so stupid.

he is more than likely an easy replacement for a bruce or junior when there time comes to step down.

He could turn out to be another Daniel Jackson or Cameron Bruce,

OR

He could be a new Jobe Watson or Brendon Goddard.

Either way, not a bad thing to look forward to in the years ahead.

Go Dees!!!!

I'm pleased about Gysberts' progress but I've got to pull you up here. If Daniel Jackson ends up having half the career that Cameron Bruce has enjoyed, he'll be a very lucky man.

No doubt Bruce's influence and importance to our side has waned in recent years as the game has changed, but don't let that cloud your judgement of his contribution to our club, and his worth as an AFL player. 15 other clubs would have loved to have Cameron Bruce in their team for the past 10 years.

Fair point.

I wasn't having a crack at Bruce, I originally started out (at least in my own mind) wanting to make the point that we tend to judge these young guys based on the way they look and play now. When you cast your mind forward to the 2012 pre-season, at 189cm he is likely to start looking like those sorts of players. And as I said, his pedigree suggests he is likely to be able to make the impact that these current day tall midfielders make. Add him into our mix and I am increasingly more optimistic about our prospects than anytime I can recall.

I don't know about anyone else, but all my mates have gone from saying over the last couple of years, Melbourne is a basket case to all saying what a great bunch of kids we now have and that the future looks really exciting.

What they don't know, but we all do, is that there are still some gems to get into the side like Gysberts in the years ahead.

The Dees will scare everyone in the next five years.

I think alot of us here have been experiencing the same as you have in relation to your mates views on the Dees. Certainly I have. I've copped it from pillar to post with ongoing ribbings for 2-3 years, I've said time and again that we've been undergoing a massive rebuild whilst focussing on best available players through the draft to build sustained success over a long period.

Now "they" can see the start of proceedings at MFC. But they've only seen small glimpses of improvement. They can't see what is yet to come.

I talk to them of players with such names as Strauss, Blease, Gysberts, Tapscott. They say "who?" with ignorance.

I say, "Just you wait & see you...... (you flogs) " (thinking payback time will soon arrive)

Enjoy it.

Hehe. I know what you mean HT.

That's why sitting in the freezen cold stands, depressed as anything during the floggings the last few years have been worth the pain. Because they will make the competition wide domination so sweet over the next 10.

Not trying to ruin the party or anything but I hate these "rate a player because of their disposal count" posts.

I didn't watch the match and maybe he did play well and most of these disposals were effective. But that is all I care about.

Players who really use the footy well. Not how many times they get it.

This includes people that claim Morton is a star already. He is a high possession getter but doesn't always use the ball well.

Hopefully he improves over the years. Looking forward to seeing him play this year.

I'd rate Gysbert the best ball user at our club except for Strauss maybe.

But has been in the best players every week.

Morton who could be a forward option, Gysbert and Wona all should come in.

Johnson, Bartram, Bruce (Hammy) out. Might give Bennel a spell down at Casey.

Well Gysberts got 30 possessions and was also one of the best so I guess that answers the question. I was looking at JT in the last quarter today and he looked knackered I wonder if he needs a rest? Perhaps we can give a couple of the boys a break and bring in some of the other youngsters, Maric was also in the best and i would give Dunn another run, he was probably a little unlucky to be dropped for today's game.

Agree with this. From reports, playing well and earnt an opportunity. Interesting to see he wasn't in the emergencies this week, has he been at all this year?

Maybe waiting for a Round 11 debut where he can play on Brock.

LOL @ Brock, you really think he will get a game? He is so slow turtles look like a blur when they pass him.

PS - Carlton fans are starting to realise how crap Brock is.

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
