Grimes for me. The boy is on an unwavering trajectory towards superstardom. You can take that to the bank.

That said, Frawley, Morton and Trengove are pretty good bets to be stars too. And I expect I will be saying the same thing about Scully and Watts in a month or three.

The others should be very, very good players, but probably not stars. Jurrah could be anything, but I suspect he won't ever be consistently great enough to be a superstar. He will be the excitement machine - the cream on the superstar cake that is the 2012 Demons side.

Trengove over Grimes... with Frawley taking the bronze only because he's a defender. Watts and Scully will prove interesting though. The others will be a notch or two below.

Trengove, I think, will be the best MFC midfielder I've ever seen. maybe will ever see.

Scully. Saw him play for Vic Metro in carnival last year. Ridiculously dominant, a ball magnet with lightning reactions. As he finds his feet in the big tent, and the confidence that comes with it : disposals and decision making, your jaws will all be dropping. Remember he has played only 3 games with men over 18.

My heart says Scully but in reality we have a plethora of options. Any one of Grimes, Watts, Morton, Scully or Trengove could be elite, we really are in a great position.

Something about Trengove though really stands out, this kid is going to be an absolute star. But disregard Watts, Scully, Grimes etc at your peril.

I'll say Watts. He needs some support. No love for him here.

He is all out of support among the Melbourne faithful. I'm the only one in his corner. ;)

But he hasn't done anything yet. There are a small number of people saying he was a mistake, but most of us are waiting until he proves his worth one way or another.

watching grimes coming out of the backline is pretty special...the game he played on didak was fantastic...

considering the last few brownlows have been midfielders...grimes would have to be a great chance as a defender/mid...last few years they have introduced the hands in the back rule that has made it even harder for defenders...

as it stands today grimes will be the best.

Mistake ? What would they know ?! They would be the same people that question everyone and everything and specialise in backflips.

I'm sticking fat with JW.

Just little 'ol me in his corner, along with JG, LJ, JF, CM, CS, JT, TS, and the entire MFC. :P

I'll join you in that corner. The potential that Jack Watts has is ridiculous.

But like everyone has already said, there's a dozen players that could become stars, and that's whats so exciting about the Melbourne football club right now.

Trengove at the present looks like he really could be a future superstar.

Hoping to maybe add Sam Blease to this list too.

Give it a couple years and we might finally have some players to include in Mike Sheehans top 50. Has been a while. Not that anyone rates his opinion though.

You Obviously do.

It's all guesswork/gut feel. Once Scully finds his feet I reckon he'll be the tough midfield general. Trengove is smoother. I love both and rate them higher than Grimes, which doesn't mean that I don't have love for Grimes, but I believe the other two are better footballers.

In order:

Scully, Trengove, Watts, Morton, Grimes, Blease

anybody else having Jurrah withdrawls? as exciting as the last couple of weeks have been imagine if WW had been around? Haven't heard him mentioned much actually, we seem to have forgotten a bloke that is a proven natural born football genius

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
