Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Rising Star?

I've just been looking through the game stats and the thought strikes me (as it did last week) that Jordie McKenzie is playing some brilliant football. Now he's still only 19 and has played fewer that 10 games. Is he eligible for the Rising Star given that he's on the rookie list? I know a few people have mentioned Trengove, but looking at the stats, Jordie was be far the better player again, and his 12 tackles will probably be the best of the round again.

Yes, he's eligible. Sportsbet has him about 65/1.

If he can keep this up he may very well be the leading tackle getter at the seasons end.

I cannot recall a kid ever landing this many tackles in consecutive weeks. Something special happening down at the MFC!

Clint Bartram was similar in his debut year but didn't get the kind of numbers Jordie's had. Clint had "only" 13 after two games. Nothing to be sneezed at by any means. Jordie is setting a cracking pace.

the differance is, that Bartram started his career in a top 4 side.

Mckenzie career, is starting a top 4 side........ B)

Uh... career?

McKenzie is also a good and penetrating kick

and makes good decisions with the pill.

Bartram does not.

Every great team has a few lower order picks that turn out to be stars - look at James Hird (pick 93), Dane Swan (pick 58) and Matthew Boyd (rookie). And that's just from instant memory. There's two I can think of for Melbourne - Aaron Davey and Jordie McKenzie.

And I'm surprised Bartram is actually still on our list. I don't rate him very highly and I don't think there are many that do.

Me too. We delisted Buckley yet re-signed Bartram for 2 years.

I reckon Banfield (red head) from Brisbane deserves to nominated this week. His first 2 performances have been very impressive.

Jordie derserves a nomination before Scully & Trengove at this stage.

Jordie is currently leading the competition in tackles (23). Kane Cornes is second (20), James McDonald is third (18).

Fantastic effort from Jordie. It would be great if he could keep that rate up -- can we rely on that? You might expect such a young player to have a few off days during the year, though with this guy I reckon he's got the drive to keep it up consistently.

Also nice to see Junior maintaining his usual high standard in this stat.

That he is that far ahead of a battle-hardened and consistent tackling machine like Junior, just makes Jordie's efforts that much more impressive.

Big big wraps on this kid and if he maintains that tackle count I can't see how they could ignore him for the Rising Star.

and I don't just mean a nomination.

These days it seems you have to get a heap of possessions or goals to be considered, Hanneberry with his 20 odd is this weeks nomination.

I had a really good chat to Jordie at the Family Day, loves the tackling and the in and under, but wants to work on his disposal and getting goals, very very humble, wasn't sure he had done enough in the preseason to be elevated at that stage. Loves the Club who gave him a chance, had other offers (Adelaide), but was easy decision to stay.

Junior (who I spoke to also) said he loved playing alongside and with him, would assume there will be quite a few opposition players panicking in the next few weeks if they hear a couple of sets of footsteps coming towards them

It also seems they like to give the nomination to a team that won on the weekend.

That being said, I think Jordy may get a nomination, but there are many impressive young players going around at the moment, so to just be nominated is very impressive in itself.

I would love if all our young players get nominated at one time or another, as it will help boost their confidence.

On Bartram, I am surprised he got 2 years, but i do think he ended last year pretty well, he was actually being more attacking. He is good depth when the yonger defenders are struggling or injured for the 2 years. I also though he did a good job on the weekend, Davis kicked the final goal, but he was not very damaging.

Jordie's problem is that he flies under the radar the way he plays. The media will be focussed on the Sculgove twins. Its also easier to get the nomination if you are winning.

Bartram was a cheap last minute rehire. He has a great tank and can effectively play a run with role on his day. However his decision making at times is flaky and is disposal is at times diabolical.

Which is why it's best served down at Casey.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
