You are the epitome of this MFC sub-culture of patheticness that strangles my club from time to time.

Why bother?! We'll never win anything!

Everyone is indifferent to us!

No-one wants to play for us!

Our coach is awful!

Our players should be better than they are!

The Media hates us!

I'm sure there are more.

I'm not going to let you do it. The MFC is bigger than this nonsense. The club sees it the way it is. We have to deal with what is front of us, not deal with ingrained and nonsensical pyschological distractions born out of years of the MFC being irrelevant.

For the second time tonight - here, here, rpfc. You have hit the nail on the head again.

Why don't we do that with Trengove? Then take Butcher at pick 2 along with Scully in the ND, and we're set...

The catch is, to enter the pre-season draft without entering the national draft, you must have previously been on an AFL list... Non AFL listed players can still be drafted in the pre-season draft, but they must have gone through the national draft first...

Fair call, I forgot that Jurrah got special consideration to enter the PSD.

Doesn't matter how "deep" a draft is, the quality of player at the pick 34 mark is pretty much the same quality as in previous years.

I am glad we can use 50 and would have been furious if we did not use 34. Plenty of the names thrown around on here will be there at 34 and some at 50.

You never know what the draft will throw up. It could be a player who never plays for the club, or alternatively, it could be the next superstar.

I know it's an old example, but Hird was picked up very late in the draft and he's one of, if not the, best player I've seen live.

IT master stroke to delist meeson and newton, meeson might not play until later in the year, and newton is a fringe player, as a rookie he is a very good backup if a another tall gets injured, and we dont have to promote jake,to cover meeson unless its the last resort, meeson will get promoted, same time next year, and newton might get delisted. why wouldnt you use pick 34 in the ND,and pass on 50 for the PSD. it makes perfect sense

Good post. There was another.

The coach is to blame.

IT master stroke to delist meeson and newton,....

Some would say, no brainer.

Well said Vince

The first tactical decision in the draft will be whether to use picks #11 or # 18 to get Ball

Last week Bailey said we won''t take him if he doesn't want us ... today Harrington said we may use #11 to gazzump the other clubs. Was Bailey bluffing to try to get him to the PSD? Is Harrington bluffing to get another club to use an early pick?

We are in a great position to play cat and mouse over the next couple of weeks

If we did not move Newton and Meeson onto the rookie list, we would have pick 6 and pick 22? in the rookie draft. With the weakening of the draft owing to it being an 8 month eligability window instead of the normal 12, everything has moved up. Using picks 34 and 50 enables us to gazzump Gold Coast and get the two picks in before them. This is a very smart thing to do and I expect all of the other clubs will follow our lead and leave Gold Coast with the dregs.

I heard Tim Harrington on SEN last night being interviewed about the changes to the list - He explained that it is as much about positioning for the next couple of years where the drafts are heavily compromised. The AFL has changed the draft rules and while you must still delist three players from the primary list, they can be replaced from the draft or by promoted rookies. By loading up the rookie list with mature players it enables us to evaluate our third pick, which may welll be in the sixties, against the rookie player and going with what we consider the better option.

This is just the club reading and understanding the rules and acting accordingly; move on.

So Hoopla -are you saying that Ball will get drafted at 11 or 18?

34 and 50, compared to what we got out of Meesen/Newton should be quite advantageous. I didn't think 34 would ever be in doubt TBH and 50 gives us flexibility if we want Thorp and another PSD player.

If pick 50 was used on a kid it could be very speculative but I just have to love it if not for anything else then just for sheer spite. :D Every pick we take in the ND is one less option for the opposition. Stating the obvious here but imagine if Collingwood (who have 30 on) picked up a decent longshot that we never gave ourselves the chance of getting - vomit worthy. Give them nothing!!!

Personally I'd hope we are just trying to bluff another team into taking Ball a lot earlier than he deserves.

I'd be gutted if we use pick 11 or 18 on him rather than a youngster.

Yeap, that would be great if we could trick someone like essendon into taking Ball at 10 leaving a player like butcher possibly to slip :)

Are the Demons crazy? In a so called weakened draft it now appears we are going to use those picks!!!

Has someone lost their marbles!

or I'm I missing something has our assessment changed?

Weakened draft compared to what? 2010 and 2011 National draft will be far weaker..

Pick 34 in this draft could be better than MFC second pick in 2010 or 2011, MFC must use these picks.

I have no problems with that ... good forward thinking - and not looking at drafts in isolation ... I like it.

However, sadly some around here only want to look at drafts in isolation ... ;)

I would have thought we are in the 3rd year of a rebuild and not the 1st year of a rebuild ... so many of comments in this thread I like ... Go Dees!!! :D

I have to agree that these picks are high considering what we'll get in the future.

Next year's draft is hardly going to be worth taking more than 2-3 picks in.

I believe West Sydney get their 12 seventeen year olds next year, plus GC17 gut the draft of every second pick, so a pick ten could be equivalent to pick 30 in a normal draft.

Plus GWS18 gut the following draft.

We want to get as many kids in now so that they have time to mature around the same time and we can have a decent crack at a flag.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
