Michael Newton – When he did play, he let himself down with his inaccuracy in front of goal. He could've really impacted on games if he had kicked straight. Michael had a good year at Casey and he has improved his defensive pressure, but he was kept out because we had Jurrah and Jetta coming through. He has worked on facets of his game but he needs to bring his Casey game into the AFL – Sean Wellman on Melbournefc.com.au

Correct. I'll take that advice.

Just on Wellman's comments, if Newton can "bring his Casey game into the AFL" - I'm afraid it might not be enough. Clearly it wasn't enough this year.

Wellman pretty much sums it up. Inaccurate, doesn't bring VFL ability to AFL, others are in front of him.

I think he had enough shots at goal - he just didn't kick straight.

If he fixed his kicking - and I'm not sure he can - then he'd be useful.

It seems that 'Juice' has run out of confidence in front of goal, and sadly, I'm running out of confidence that he will make the grade.

Saw a number of Scorpion games and this bloke didn't have much of a game, let alone if he brought what little he has to AFL level he would be productive. Looks as though he skips when he runs...too much rolling shoulder for my liking. Bush footy stardom awaits the great man.

If Newton was going to make it at Melbourne he really needed to consolidate a place in the seniors this year before Watts and Martin mature as forwards and prior to the entrance of LJ. He may improve next year but unless injury strikes has missed the boat as far as opportunity. Needs to improve his strength over the summer both physically and mentally.

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

    Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

    It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill.     Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval.     DRUBBING by Meggs

    With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.
