Brett Peake hasbeen traded to St Kilda

Fremantle utility Brett Peake was today traded to St Kilda.

General manager of football operations Chris Bond said today that the club had agreed to terms for Peake to move to St Kilda in exchange for the Saints’ third round selection (pick 48).

The trade is subject to the relevant paperwork being approved tomorrow by the AFL.

5/7/83, 186cm, 86kg,75 games, 42 goals.

Relieved he has gone to the Saints because we were being linked to him too! The Saints feel they are in the window and know they lack pace and running power and the additions of Lovett and to a lesser extent Peake address this. They should get a pick in late first/early second for Ball - not much of a loss for mine - or perhaps another quick runner like Wellingham.

Looks like the Saints are rolling the dice in the hope they can win it all in 2010. Selling the future for a flag, hell I would be wanting us to do the same if we were in their position.

Peake and Lovett add some depth, if they can keep Luke Ball or gain something solid in return then the saints will have had a successful trade week.

They dont want Peake and Lovett for depth. They want pace. They have offloaded downhill skiers in Milne and Clarke. Can they offload Ball? They would prefer to.

Pies have only pick 30 left unless they can trade someone of decent merit. Davis would struggle to get beyond a mid 2nd round pick.

Although i am happy we didnt get Peake i think he will benefit the Saints with his speed

Lyon would have learned alot in the last 8 weeks of the season about his list

This smacks of desperation to me.

But it's the time for that I guess - their window is ajar and they need to win before Riewoldt's knees slam it shut.

Peake is depth, waste of money. Lovett is gold, if you can tame him. But if you can't, he's fool's gold.

Worked with Dawson and Farren Ray...

They're not out of contract, but given thier performances in the finals and the GF, I'd imagine they are out of favour and will spend alot of next year playing at Trevor Barker Oval

I often wonder why more clubs don't trade late picks for a player. Statistically, I would have thought that Peake (on his exposed ability plus whatever improvement the saints think they can get) has better prospects and is likely to be better than most picks in the late 40s.

Agreed, especially in a year where they are expecting a shallow draft. The only reason I can really think of is that sometimes it has more to do with wanting to offload players for list management reasons. I wouldn't mind if the dees were to offer picks 50 & or 66 to have a gamble on an available player who may not have lived up to his potential at a previous club. Just as much speculation as the draft really.

It is funny how of a bad of a footballer Peake was made out to be when his name was mentioned on here a while ago, yet he is good enough for the saints.

I still think he's rubbish regardless of where he's gone. Like others have said, glad it's them and not us.

No it has not been proven that he is good enought to play for the Saints. He is a speculative pick

Is he any worse than the bottom four on the Saints list?

The Saints time is now. They will trade picks now for their window is now. We are not in that predicament and I dont see the need for MFC to punt a player who at best could 2 years of mediocre service.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
