If Newton can be bundled into the trade I will party like it's 1999

I was shattered that Mclean was going to Carlton, but now i'm over it. they can have Mclean, Newton and Bell, for pick 11

How stupid would Carlton look if they backed out now?

They already had McLean doing media interviews, coming in for medicals, and announced to the world the deal is done.

The Fevola issue was known when the principle deal was made, so no reason why it should make a difference come trade week.

They said pick 11 and it's on record. If they want a list-clogger they can take one, and it'll be a bonus for us, freeing more space to re-sign the likes of McNamara, who may otherwise get squeezed out. If they don't, we'll keep McLean or try and trade him somewhere else. We're not exactly going to lose out of this deal whichever way it turns out.

I don't trust them any further than I could spit them but I sort of hope they screw around with this and karma bites them on the arse. It's already worked with CJ by freeing up a space on our list so we were able to get Jurrah while they got a reserve grade clanger king. Not to mention that the Judd deal is starting to look like a win for the Coasters. Bring it on.

I just read this article on the AFL site:

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tab...66/default.aspx

In particular this comment annoyed me.

"I'll speak to Melbourne and see whether there might be something else that they might want to give back our way"

You offerred pick 11 Carlton, don't expect anything else in return. Carlton is in panic mode, no first round draft pick if they trade it to us and now no Fevola.

And Brock's walking into this mess!

I think some people need to take 2 steps back and a couple of deep breaths re: Icke's statement yesterday about the McLean Deal.

After this deal Melbourne have: #1, #2, #11, #18, #34, #50, #66

Carlton have the following: #27, #43, #59, #75

Carlton are just trying to score Pick #34 out of Melbourne (most likely as a swap for #43) - but it will obviously try to swap their picks #59 and #75 up to Melbourne's #50 and #66 because Melbourne won't be using these picks.

So Melbourne would use #1, #2, #11, #18, #43 and still have a pick for the PSD

Carlton would use #27, #34, #50, #59, #66.

capish?

If that is what it is I won't lose sleep. As long as we have 1,2,11,18 I don't care. I just want enough room to draft the top 20's, promote Spencer and have a dip at the PSD.

Yes I capish that 34, 50 and 66 for 43 is an extremely bad deal for us.

We would have better options for 50 than that, including trying to upgrade 34.

34, 50 and 66 for their 27 is a much more equitable deal.

Just give them 50, I would very surprised if we used that pick anyway.

yep..simple... that or 34 and 50 for their 27 ;) well... you can try !!!

If we're not going to use it, then try and find a way to use it to improve our earlier picks, like Old mentioned above. Just giving it to Carlton because they want to play funny buggers is not only a complete waste, it's giving a competitor a free kick.

Btw I doubt they have a leg to stand on in negotiations beyond Pick 11 for Brock, and I'm pretty confident the deal will happen as documented.

Hardly.

All that does is degrade their first pick in the draft by 7 and offers them picks so low in the draft they will likely not be used. I don't want them to get pick 34 from us, would rather they take a contracted player.

I expect that by about noon on monday the deal as originally broken will be rattified (or is that Rattenfied)

Which one? The only ones we've got handy are either required by us, or rubbish that Carlton won't want. And this year they won't have that many places on their list, so they won't want them being wasted on more duds when they're already carrying the likes of CJ, Scotland and Grigg in to next year.

Likewise.

Fair enough. I'd prefer to drive a Ferrari but unfortunately I'm stuck with a Ford with busted power steering.

Well, maybe you'd get the Ferrari if you included Daniel Bell...

At the very least, it would get your power steering fixed.

I have to agree with Old and Nasher completely here. Like most, I've interpreted the Stephen Icke interview as typical Carlton scum buffoonery, but perhaps they're not looking to completely shaft a club they've agreed to a deal with, and instead wish to add to the deal in a way that is mutually beneficial, given their draft pick situation. Under Old's proposal, Carlton's draft situation moves from this:

27, 43, 59, 75

to this:

34, 43, 50, 59, 66

While their second round pick decreases by 7, this is offset by the gaining of two extra picks, their third pick moving up nine spaces and their fourth pick moving up 16, while their fifth pick is now of some use. The gaining of extra picks gives Carlton some wiggle room in further trades as well.

I'm keen for Melbourne to package 34 and 50 for a pick between 26 and 32, and while 27 may be a bit rich, we're certainly not going to simply throw pick 50 into a deal that has already been agreed to because Carlton are detestable swine. We most likely won't use pick 50, but it should still come in handy for a pick upgrade or minor deal so I wouldn't be losing it for nothing.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.
