Intersting that we havent heard confirmation of the Brock deal.. Must , to me , mean theres more associated with it now with interest in Buckley and Bell.

Really thought the McLean- pick 11 deal would have pre-empted teh Gibson announcement.

SYDNEY has confirmed the three-team deal, which sees them lose Amon Buchanan and get Eagles ruckman Mark Seaby. In the same deal, the Lions get Buchanan and Brent Staker and lose Bradd Dalziell to the Eagles.

Well I have to admit the Lions seem to be refashioning a side with some definite claims to next september action. They have been one of the surprises for me this year.

Sydney as always seem to be able to deny the bottom of the ladder their presence. Got to hand it to Roos.

Not sure where this will leave the eagles at the end of the week

IMHO I think Hawks are the winners ... look around pre-trade to what 90% of all North fans where saying ... Pick 9 or PSD ... neither eventuated

Hawks got their man for a 2nd round pick (average pick in 2009) & 3rd round pick (very speculative pick)

Hawks (Pelchen) are very smart and seem to find the Roos easy prey every time.

IMHO its a classic example of the strong dominating the weak and something we must be fearful of as our list improves.

The hawks are really rolling the dice this year. If they forfeit pick 9 to get Burgoyne then they will really be scraping the barrel come their turn (currently 57 and 73) + 69 now and in course be relying totally on really what they have on hand. Big call !!

No, Hawks just prefer to trade for what they need, they don't seem to like their chances of getting anything they need out of the draft. If they do the Burgoyne deal, their first draft pick will be fourth round, unless they're prepared to trade some tempting players. North knew they'd lost Gibson anyway and prefer to draft for what they need. It's a classic win-win because both have different preferences, unless you think that Gibson's a gun player who's worth a first round pick.

Given the position their list is in and the quality of the list, giving up pick 9 for Burgoyne is understandable. Their window is open.

Let's be honest though, their list as is is very strong, they should be pushing top 4 next year despite this year's failure. They also have a few good young players (Schoenmakers, Moss, Shiels) and their list was the youngest this year. It might bite them in the bum in 4 or 5 years time, but I think they're doing the right thing in terms of seeking a second premiership.

The rules were changed this year. Rookie upgrades now count as part of the mandatory three additions. I'm not sure there's a minimum number you have to draft anymore.

No its the North people that thought Gibson was worth a 1st rounder & they didn't get it.

Essentially Hawks have picked him up for 2nd rounder ... good deal for them thats a good price in this draft.

IMHO Hawks 3rd round pick ... I would question whether even we would use it in this draft .

It would mean that we get our pick of all the talls at 11. Seems to be becoming more and more a midfield draft, which is why clubs with an open "window" and an OK midfield are happily trading away their draft picks.
