Rumour around the Traps:

Recommended Posts

There's a bit of a rumour I've heard from a very respectable source (I know that everybody says this).

I didn't give it much attention at the time - but it's been reignited for me because I also heard Michaelangelo Rucci talking about it on "One Week at a Time" (though he didnt mention the players name)

A young Port Adelaide midfielder is homesick and wants to return to Victoria - to play for Carlton.

It's said to be that this player is Travis Boak (who grew up as a Carlton supporter) - however, I don't think that:

(1) Carlton could offer him much by way of payment - with lots of highly payed players on the list (Insert: Visy joke here)

(2) Carlton have bad blood with Port Adelaide

(3) Carlton would have no hope of getting the picks required in order to satisfy Port Adelaide for Boak.

I think this would be an ideal situation for Melbourne to pounce.

What do you think?

Definitely.

Old falcons boy, starting to mature and come into his own as a player just as the club turns to [censored] all around him - not surprised he'd want to leave.

Really depends on what we'd have to give up, but i'd part with pick 18 in a heartbeat.

Word floating around is that Salopek is keen to leave though

I do like Boak.

I know this might be a silly and somewhat ridiculous statment, but here goes: - "Why on earth would you want to play at f****n Carlton?!"

Ok, I'm guessing Boak would require a 1st rounder maybe? Would pick 18 do?

Boak was pick 5 and highly rated -- they'd want more.

I dare say he'd be worth more than just Pick #18 in a weak draft.

Besides, Carlton can better that with their first rounder.

It would be way too difficult in trying to get him accross via trade.

However, flash as much cash as you can - and try and get him to jump into the PSD pool ;)

This all goes back to what I thought some time ago...trade Week is going to be very interesting ...for a change !

oh..and p.s.

and people ( some ) think its silly to keep that PSD1 up our sleeve.....oh yeah...much better to use pick 50 ( NOT !! )

Sounds like the perfect PSD pick up if you ask me! Although bloody Carlton always seem to have a way of getting things done!

It's that endless pit of 'brown paper bag' TD.

Drives me insane this club. Every man and his dog it seems are now attracted to this club that's - going places - let's be honest. All because of the Judd factor.

Hopefully we're in this position soon enough.

Not with a stubborn guy like Choco in charge.

Remember when he sent Nick Stevens into the PSD just to shove it up Collingwood?

Excellent point and a reminder to all. Mr Hard Ball. Hopefully he still admires Bailey.......sh!t *light bulb* - maybe we shouldn't have won that game!

This is the benefit of having pick 1 in the PSD. You may not get a great player with it in the end but it is a great bargaining chip to force clubs to under sell players. I would trade pick 18 for Boak definitely, would not consider any picks we have below that. Choko is just the type to refuse to deal with Carlton similar to what occurred with Stevens.

Either way, i'm just not that excited by that pair. I would honestly prefer to draft new players than trade for guys who are willing ot jump ship like that. If they do it once, who's to say they won't do it again?

Ditto

funny in a way.. not al lthat long aga.. or was it when we were playing some seriously good footy..climbing the ladder and making a run . There was a hell of a lot of good press and good, nicey nicey feeling type stuff written about teh good ol' Dees. Unlike a lot of teams I dont hink there are a lot who hate us..more pity us really. But with the likes of Jurrah .and Watts..with Hopefully Scully and Trengove lighting up the middle with mentor Davey guiding them towards goal thenwe DO have the plausible potential of being a team that wil draw peopel to games simply to see the spectacle that is the show. We had it in years past with the Wiz, Jakovich..even Mad jacko.. they were all part of a show...

well I think the shows about to come back to town ;) our town..Melbourne

In a few years the warnocks etc will be rueing there sillyness :)

Besides Josh Carr I can't think of too many players that have been traded to another team and then have wanted to go back or move on again.

Croad maybe.

But its not a long list.

Pick 18 + Daniel Bell.

If the player in question is out of contract, we always have pick 1 in the PSD to threaten Port with. Doubt they want to deal with Carlton or face another Stevens situation. So if a player is really keen to leave, they have very little bargaining room and should take what they are offered.

On the other hand, if the player wants to go to Carlton he can [censored] off to Visy and start assembling carton boxes!

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again faced with a classic 8 point game against a traditional rival on King's Birthday at the MCG. A famous victory will see them reclaim a place in the Top 8 whereas a loss will be another blow for their finals credentials.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag
