Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

- Trying Martin in the foward line. Also may give Garland a go.

- Morton is now 192cm. Has put on 2 Kilos. Needs to put on another 2-3 kilos next year

- Has seen Scully play and footage of half a dozen others including Rohan, and Griffiths.

- Trying Bate on a wing and midfield because he has such a penetrating kick into the forward 50.

- 4 or 5 new players to be drafted

-Having less rotations in the midfield to allow players to stay on the field and in different positions up forward or on a back flank.

Idiots Like Mike Sheahan, Mark Fine Andy Maher Mark Robinson etc etc call these Tactics Cheating (Tanking) I call them common sense information for 2010 & onwards.

The Football Dept will know our list so well by next year.

Remember Sheeds was never Scared to throw his troops around the ground

He had a little bit of success in his time.

Im really looking forward to seeing garland back.

I honestly think he could be our ff.

As a junior he played forward and kicked some big bags of goals.

The only problem may be his height at 191cm.

I recon his strong enough and fast enough and would be more than a simple stay at home forward.

AWESOME!! this was part of my grand plan for "the dees 2012 team" thread and for those exact reasons.

Bate, Davey and (a bit of assumtion here) Blease - for quick precise delivery into the forward line... B)

Haven't been super impressed, but he's really starting to pull his [censored] together, is Bailey...

Great thread D-Den

Do you need to use picks 50 and 66 for potential rookie elevation?

You don't lose ND picks when you elevate, only the places on the list that those picks would be used to fill.

And per an earlier post, Bailey implied that there would 4 or 5 new players at the club, not refering to Spencer or Valenti as upgrades because they are already at the club.

Personally I'd be disappointed if we didn't use pick 50.

Old55 is right. Pick 50 = 70-75 in a normal draft and I don't see how that speculative player would be a better bet than keeping Batram or elevating Valenti or Spencer.

I'm not into turning over the list just to turn it over.

You have to identify talent and objectively appraise it with the talent already at the club.

Do clubs have to make a minimum of 4 selections in the national draft? I seen to recall something like that... Or did I make that up?

Yes and no.

Minimum 3 deletions.

I'm really hoping on some inspired indigenous recruiting

how many more indigenous players do you want mate?

As many as possible. Personaly I won't be satisfied until the prematch trumpeter is replaced by a didgeridoo rendition of the club song, and the postmatch change room celebrations resemble something approaching a corroboree. :P

I'll be happy with inspired recruiting across any race.

Yeah agree totally. The only colours that matter are red and blue.

My second sad stat for the week:

In the last 3 years of his career, Matthew Whelan will have played in two victories.

Wow. That is a sad stat indeed 45h. Shame he couldn't get out on the ground against the Dockers.

Agree. Whilst from the outside it looks easy, it would be quite a difficult task in deciding on a list that will provide the club with the most optimum options moving forward, and harnessing the best talent at the clubs disposal on a yearly basis. It's not just the drafting and recruiting of players as well as the retirements and delistings/trades, but the rookie elevations or delisting/re-drafting of rookies, etc.

Finishing up one's footy career or 'closing the door' on someone whether it be permanent or temporary (possibility of being re-cycled) would be an unpleasant and delicate matter. Still, people are appointed to carry out these tasks for the club and they do it well considering the scrutiny they may or may not face after decisions are made.

Another thing we should probably be mindful of is that we'll need to turn over x number of players in the next few years of heavily compromised drafts.

With most of our older players departing this year it'll leave a quite young list and there won't be too much natural attrition over the next few years.

How long are the significant draft concessions going to go for?

Was it 5 years overall of concessions? I'm not entirely sure about the 'significant' part ie. which years are more significant concessions than other years.

Your point on not too much natural attrition over the next few years is interesting as much as it is somewhat obvious. Because our list won't have a great deal of 'older players' departing over this time (in comparison to this year and the last two years of management). We will need to turn over x amount of players in the next few years - are their specific rules in place regarding any number per year that must be turned over Rogue?

Guest Rojik of the Arctic

Back to Bailey - and this might come back to bite me on the arse - but I think he has a good plan and is only starting to get the cattle to carry it out. I realise that the man has a shocking record when it is looked at superficially but looking at the injuries, the youth and the difference between this and last year with our losses, we really seem to be putting a plan together. A Carlton supporting friend was saying that we are a side that needs to be squashed otherwise we keep coming all day. I think that is a reasonable assesment. Apart from a couple of games, and too many quarters, we have done that for the majority of the year, and we have done it with kids and NQR players who won't be around in 12 -24 months. A good shake out this year and next should give Yoda the team that can play his plan for 4 Q's and give us the respect we deserve.

I think just quietly that Bails is drooling over his prospects in this draft as enabling him to compliment that which he was able ( and needed) to get last year. I think the mids will be the final bit in his jigsaw. I say mids as that was his forte when at Port.( premiership ) He knows what you need to win and he knows how to cojoul it..as that wa shis job when with the Bombers, also coincidentlally during a premiership spell.

I think there is much yet to be seen about our list and the man leading it. Shackles off in '010..:)

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
