I hate talk of tanking but understand the rule is there and if its there we should use it!

AFL is in fault here.

For a while now i dont really care so much about the Priority Pick but i do care to get Tom Scully! I think he is that important to the future of our club!

This week is the most important! We play the Roos who are yet to get a win under Crocker!

We lose- We get Tom Scully

Roos Lose- Roos get Tom Scully

Ziebell and Scully future is dam scarey and i think the Roos know this secretly too! I think the roos are "tanking" just as much as us so should be pleasant viewing again!

We will not lose against Freo no matter how hard we try!

But saying that..the dockers will beat port at subi!

This is the Week! This is the Tom Scully Cup!

Yeah im very nervous about this week too, but like i have been saying for the past couple of days, if Crocker really wants the coaching job at North, he desperately needs a win or two. So i think that might be our saving grace

Not as scary as Morton/Grimes/Sylvia and Scully.

Roos don't get a priority pick.

Nah, don't worry about it. We've come this far, we're not going to blow it now.

We will lose to the Roos. Comfortably. There's no way they could play as bad as Richmond did, so this should be far easier this week.

You couldn't spoon feed a team a victory any more than we did the Tigers. Their celebrations were amusing.

Most definitely a danger game, in the reverse sense.

There is every chance we will imitate West Coast and win the game after a massive tank game.

It's hard to imagine we can do any more than we did yesterday, especially with the increased focus.

What's more, North are awful.

A win this week would be disastrous. We would probably end up 14th - out of both the priority pick AND the top pick.

Yeah i know mate but if we beat the roos and freo we wont either and then its who comes last. If roos dont beat us they wont beat another team this year and freo will beat port this week at subi

Freo will beat Port? Sure, Port are flaky, but Freo invented flaky. Freo Port is too hard to call, but Port will start favourite, despite playing away from AAMI.

Don't blow it now.

I think the issue is that we can't do again what we did yesterday. If you believe Caro on Footy Classifieds, some of the players were not happy with what happened yesterday (they'll be laughing their arse off if they win a premiership with Tom Scully though, won't they? ), and the media is all over us like a cheap hooker, so we have got to be extremely weary of what we do next.

The four guys who ended up on the bench in the last, need to take the week off and rest. Sylvia has to play, unless he miraculously gets sick during the week or breaks a nail. Same goes for Morton.

We need to go tall in the backline to try and bring North's small forwards into the game, and of course the midfield should be on high rotation. Experimentation there is easily done and can be nicely disguised. Newton on the wing an absolute must, and maybe get PJ on the other wing.

Sylvia into defense and Morton to FF perhaps. No idea how we get Grimes to get the hell away from the football though. Coach for the day? ;)

We have to hold on for one more week, then we can go all out against Freo and force the idiots in the media to come up with something else to talk about.

useful or informative on Footy Classified?

What, I don't understand?;)

The discussion was the same one we've heard all year. Players don't tank, clubs tank, there is too much incentive to lose, Melbourne should lose, Melbourne should win, etc etc etc

The only interesting bit of info to come out of tonight was that apparently some of our players weren't happy with what happened yesterday (according to Caro), and that Melbourne's recruiters rate Scully "as highly as you could rate a player". The words Chris and Judd were also mentioned.

On a side note, I did not listen to SEN's game coverage (seeing the same live was painful enough), but they showed a snippet from the commentary yesterday where they were laughing when Rivers dropped that ball which resulted in a Richmond goal, insinuating that perhaps Rivers did that on purpose. Gary Lyon said that any accusation like that is extremely dangerous, and I have to agree. Rivers played well yesterday and worked his butt off. He has never ever been anything but 100% committed or dedicated and anyone who suggests otherwise is an idiot. It's because our players didn't tank and refused to lose, that we nearly won.

Was there anything useful or informative discussed on Footy Classified?

Is there ever anything useful or informative discussed on FC? It's just a meeting of the egos (Lyon excepted of course).

As I've put on another thread, GT thinks that Weagles win over Essendon is definite proof of tanking, "they just happened to find themselves in front". That's about the standard of it.

Tom Scully, Tom Scully! This time last year it was Jack Watts, Jack Watts! Now there are many on this forum who reckon Jack WON"T BE THE SAVIOUR we hoped for. I don't agree BTW but that's what is being said. Anyone would think that this guy (Scully) is going to be another Judd or Hodge or Franklin. But let's face it ,he is only a promising JUNIOR at this stage. We must always be aware of the fact that there are many LATE MATURERS out there. I am sure that even St Kilda and Geelong will get good draft picks even at their late stage of choosing. If we don't get Scully, what's wrong with Trengrove, Butcher, Morabo and the other early draft picks? Remember, Judd went at #3 and a couple of years later Jimmy Bartell went at #8. Roughhead was a #2 pick and Lance Franklin selected at #5. I started to watch the Richmond game with an open mind on whether it was good to lose or not. Had we taken it easy and got blown away I would have thought, " We are trying to make sure we get what we want in the draft." However, watching Junior and others bust their guts out for a win I wanted a Demon victory for the reasons I have outlined above. Scully is NOT the only good kid around. Let's not get paranoid.

Jaded is right for the first time ever.

We will have nowhere to hide vs the Kangas.

Sylvia will be back, Morton will be also unless its swine flu.

Just pray the North are switched on, cos we will easily roll them otherwise.

Who cares what caro says!!! She is a mere journalist who has been very wrong quite a few times this year. I beleive in the Footy Dept & what they are planning.

Caro should be more worried with the fortunes of Richmond. That's where her family bloodlines arise from.

Butt out Wilson.

North are in bad form

Freo are [censored]!

Carlton are playing really bad!

St kilda maybe playing to win 22 in a row which has never happened before?

im not really for tanking! ...

but i will be very upset if we win 2 of these games now after sundays result

As long as the Footy Dept stand Firm, believe in the long term. Do not bow to media pressure. We will be alright.

I expect a lot of late night meetings this week.

Get it right boys.

I want North to be on 5 wins by sunday night....Just do it....

What effect will all this talk have on the players morale?

I think it could go either way for them. They might just prove to have the killer instinct that we want them too. They could say to each other bugger the Media and bugger the coaching staff we alone can put this tanking talk to bed by going out playing good footy and winning two more games.

Or it could go the other way and they could think well even our club doesn't want us to win why bother busting our gut all week at training and putting our bodies on the line game day.

Either way football is fickle and come finals time no-one will care about tanking and come round1 and even pre-season next year the players will have forgotten about all this and will be doing there all to improve individually and collectively.

Posted

It's likely the players who would not have been happy (if Caro's allegations were correct) with Bailey's coaching would have been our D-graders, considering how many of them were playing yesterday.

Ha, ha. That is classic. I turned the telly off straight after the goal but, on second thoughts, I should have left it on to join you for a giggle.

Mate, you have no clue as to how good Scully is. Some junior watches say that he's certainly in Judd's league. Stars come into the game and stars leave the game. Other than Franklin who's the last star KPP ? Brown and Riewoldt are the last and they were drafted nearly ten years ago. The competition is due for another one and Watts will be the man. And the competition is due for the next Judd or Ablett.

We haven't had a star mid come into the club for 30 years, Bobby. That's 30 years, Bobby. It's not as easy to get a star as you seem to think. And Scully will be a star. We have the chance to pick up two stars, Bobby. Two.

Fwiw, I was surprised they moved Newton, that was laughable. They should have kept him in the goalsquare. ;)

We might want to keep the status quo against Freo, bit of insurance. (ie. We did beat Port).

Chris Judd was also a promising JUNIOR at U18 level.

Bobby, it's not all about Tom Scully. It's about 2 early picks. Tom Scully is just rated No.1, that's all.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
