Simply that was the worst performance I have seen for a very long time.

We did everything possible to lose the game short of asking the players not to give their all, and Richmond still almost lost.

Richmond fielded a team close to full strength yet played like school boys. They are destined to a long period at the bottom of the ladder with aging stars (Richo and Brown even Newman) and unable to rebuild due to the entry of the new clubs and their incredibly generous draft concessions.

Richmond have made one finals series in 26 years............. PATHETIC.

Further it is hard to imagine them getting close to finals for at least the next 5 years with their current list.

Also interesting that Port, Sydney and now Richmond all played so badly against us. I am starting to think this may not be them it may somehow be us. Is our pressure really good enough to make these teams miss targets, drop marks, miss goals???? Each of these teams has looked very ordinary against us.

Are we on the way up already or are teams just not mentally coming to play against the bottom team with all eyes on Scully and the draft?

Posted

lol perhaps we were very hard to match up on yesterday with all our moves. ;)

...but on a serious note, I AGREE, Richmond are pathetic and are going nowhere.

They've actually made two finals appearances: 95 and 2001.

I think we've made great strides this year. We were the better team going into half-time against the Saints, we could have beaten the Swans and we almost beat the Doggies. I know it's never a good thing to accept losing, but look on the bright side - this time last year we were losing games by 130 points against the Cats and getting pounded by 80 points against the Tigers.

You guys are all wrong. Richmond are building a winning culture.

From Harry over at Punt Road End:

what's everyone complaining for we got a win and we're gonna build a winning culture from it. our list is thereabouts and all it needs is a few wins, some confidence, ben cousins and a new coach. finals here we come in 2010 and beyond. geez some of you "supporters" are hard to please, the boys had a red hot go and dug deep and got the win in the end, mcmahon was brilliant. we don't need stupid draft picks, we need wins and a winning culture. we have a good list. it doesn't matter how you play its the win that counts. winning isn't everything it's the only thing. melbourne were out for a win and we showed them who's boss. can't you see how happy mcmahon and the boys were after the win. they'll grow an extra leg from this win. gotiges.

It made me giggle.

At this stage, that is more likely.

That is Brilliant GV, well spotted!! Perfect example of why Richmond always finish 9th. Can't wait to wave goodbye to them in about 18 months.

I have to read Harry's work again, it's just too good!!!!

We have a few on here that would have written, and still might this Sunday night, something similar about the Dees.

I just don't buy into it. The irony is that that same person probably felt exactly the same way about the way the Tigers finished 2008 - with 8 wins from 11.

I'm hoping for our 52nd loss since 2007 on Sunday to help end our losing culture.

That may sound counterintuitive, but it's not.

I guess that's why I posted it. I thought seeing the 'development of a winning culture' argument applied to a rabble of a team like Richmond after a slopfest of a game on Sunday might be quite revealing for some.

I'm not.

I respect you for sticking to your guns.

One thing I question is your signature: The Team We Love

The problem is that I couldn't care less about 'the team,' I care about 'the club.'

If you say there is no difference I would counter and say that significant parts of this 'team' has won 11 games in 3 years and heaped a sh!tload or embarrassment onto my 'club.'

Bailey is doing the right thing by the 'club' and that is fine by me...

Good Point RPFC. The "Team" represents the "Club". The Club Pays the team. 2 entities that must work in Harmony in order to reach success.

But Both seperate Altho without each other both will die

Makes perfect sense rpfc. Take 1 step back then 2 steps forward, not 1 step forward and then 2 steps back (or god forbid, just staying in the one spot).

I like the cut of your jibe!

Short-term pain for long-term gain.

This is my favourite part. Delusional comic genius.

They played like a bunch of tourists.

Yes 1 step Back...2 steps Forward. That is exactly what is going on Right now.

Like a shark if they stay in the one place they die.

We must always move as a club. Create so others Follow.

That's how Norm Smith Worked.

I saw a Ruthless & Smart Bailey Last Sunday. The First time he REALLY had to coach on matchday.

He will coach the same way against North. Who cares what the Media says.

We have our own agenda to follow.

Who were the Tigers missing? Pretty much Richo & Foley from their best 22??

They also played their 1st 2 draft picks from last year in Vickery & Post. We were missing Watts, Blease, Strauss & Jurrah due to injury. In addition to Green, McLean, Moloney, Sylvia, Morton, Garland, Maric, Jamar, Wonaemerri, etc...

That's the thing that really annoyed me, none of the commentators/experts have given us any credit for our performance considering we were decimated by injuries. It was all tank this tank that...

If we end up with T. Scully, another top 5 pick and a pick 18 or 19, we're going to absolutely monster Richmond next year and for the foreseeable future.

You take Ben Cousins out of that lineup and they would've lost the last 2 games. They are going nowhere with the list they've got as far as im concerned. Good luck to the poor sod who has to coach them for the next few years...

Richmond have a worse list than we did at the end of 2007. 'nough said.

The only players with potential, as i see it, are Vickery, Post, Shane Edwards, Cotchin, Riewoldt, and that Rance kid is fairly handy i guess...Tambling and Deledio are flaky, you'll get a great performance one week and a dud one the next. They're not players I'd want to rely on to influence a finals game...

A lot of dead wood though. I can't see how they're going to play finals football in the next 5 years unless they drastically overhaul their playing list and change their culture. 2 finals series out of 26 years is woeful. I mean, we haven't exactly set the world on fire of late, but at least we've played a fair amount of finals football over that period..

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
