Scully no to WA?

good to hear that scully will refuse to go to freo or eagles.if picked up by them .

he wants to stay in melb.

although this is not 100% garanteed as it is known as a " well known potential draft pick"

i would imagine that recruiters would sort that out at the time of interview.

but rules are "if u nominate for draft u have to go where picked up...

no choice.

dont think either wa side top pick will be from outside their own state.

Not rocket science I would have thought. Though it's more likely to be the sort of thing Butcher might say than Scully. They're not allowed to refuse a pick (unless they stand outside), but they can make it clear that they'll be headed back east at the earliest possible opportunity, so Scully would be a very risky pick for a WA side.

But maybe it makes it even less likely that one of the Perth clubs would pick Scully if we lose No1 pick to them. The WA U18 carnival side was the best side in the comp by so far it wasn't funny, and 7 or 8 of them made the All-Aust team.

The last sentence is the most sensible thing that's been posted about this. We've all seen how much the WA media deify their own (irrespective of how much damage it causes). They will absolutely crucify Freo or WC if they take anybody not from the WA carnival side in their first-round picks.

Do we know what the WA views are about who should be No1 pick? Bet they're not as unanimous about Scully as we are.

I do believe it... Trent Cotchin did something similar to this a few years ago yeah? his parents said they did not want him drafted there with all the cousins fiasco aftermath.

I believe that he will be trying to make the interstate clubs think twice about taking him. Buckley did it, and so have a couple of others who I can't remember atm. Invariably the kid ends up at the new club "happy to get the opportunity to play in the AFL" etc etc.

At the end of the day if he wants to play afl footy next year he will go wherever he is drafted. I find it interesting that this issue has been raised this week.

Can confirm this is getting around footy circles, dunno whether it's due to the Melbourne win yesterday, but it's not only Scully, but Butcher also is making noises about not going to WA.... Hopefully no1 else joins in else the AFL will b forced to act. I for one think this is a bad trend, next blokes from SA and WA may start taking similar stances (even thou Melbourne is the greatest place to live on earth)...

My source is a player agent... He was adamant, take it how u will, he's never talked it up to me b4, and he's tryin to get more info as to what prompted these boys right now

Post more if more comes my way

This talk is rubbish.

If we win 5, do you really think we'll finish 15th? We won't be bottom 2-3 with 5 wins, so we won't get him regardless.

If we win 3 or 4, we will get him (and one other top 5 pick).

Simple.

Players dont have to go, though its become less common. We actually drafted Darren Jarmen and he just never turned up and after our "contract" expired with him he re-nominated and went Hawthorn. And I remember the big mummy's boy Anthony Rocca not wanting to go to Sydney. His momma, saying he should stay his Melbourne with his family lol... I don't think he ever recovered from that :) I think he went up and played half a season over 2 years, after staying in Melbourne for the first year.

But who would recruit and interstate kids who says he'll go home after his initial contract.

Court won't award an order of specific performance for personal services.

Please explain

It basically means a court will not force you to perform the 'service' - in this case playing footy - for that employer, basically because it was considered to be too much like slavery.

Instead the court will prevent you from doing the same service for another employer - that''s why footballers have on occasion waited out contracts

The AFL put in place a rule to cover this scenario as it led to draft tampering. For a boy to be drafted he has to agree to go to whoever drafts him. What he doesn't have to do is stay there. The minimum contract for drafted players is two years I believe and if then unhappy he could ask to be traded or go into the PSD and take his chances.

The interview process should shed some light on a boys intentions or desires.

In cases like this all the AFL have to do is say if we think you will not nominate or wont go to WA, SA etc then we will not register you with the AFL and you can kiss your career goodbye, have a nice life.

What a load of crap. I would have gone anywhere to play AFL, hell with the problems I had with my body I would of been happy to be able to play past 22 yrs old, but I couldn't and things like this [censored] me off.

Maybe Gerard Healy got a phone call from a past team mate or brother asking him to put this out there as his club may not finish last and they want this kid. Hopefully the next rumour will be he has got stress fractures and will be out for two years. Go 3aw keep putting this stuff out there just in case we win more games.

That was under vastly different rules. These days you commit to going to the club that drafts you when you nominate.

My understanding is that the kid can't do that!

What is your source?

nik nat did it last season, we will finish 15th, freo will take the WA boy, the demons will take the VIC boy aka tom scully ;)

This isn't entirely true.

The Eagles policy is that they sign all first round picks to an initial 3 year deal.

When Trent and his family met with Woodhouse prior to the draft they informed him that they would only sign a 2 year deal.

Sorry to shatter the dreams of some people on here - but entering the AFL Draft is a binding contract.

You enter on the proviso that you go where you are selected period.

Should you refuse - the AFL has a proviso in place (Clause 3.4(e) of the draft entry form) that they can annull your registration on the grounds of failing to fulfill your obligations.

No he didn't.

Prospective draftees can only nominate a choice - and express a desire to play for so and so (ie. Des Headland when he wore the Freo gurnsey to his interview with Lions during Draft Camp' 98)

But at the end of the day - you must play for who selects you.

but why select someone who doesnt want to play for you,nik nat told the demons i dont want to play for you,and as for headland who does he play for now,so if a draftees nominating a choice its obviously very wise to listen to him, obviously you must play for whoever selects buts what the point if there going to leave in 2yrs time, just like nik nat wouldv left the demons.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
