Murphy had 7 kicks on him in the first quarter and Akermanis kicked most of his goals on him too !

It WAS a game to forget .

I very much doubt when we have the likes of Garland, Frawley and Rivers back in our team, that Grimes would have a matchup with the other teams best small forwards.

Even so, there have been players with much more than 2 games experience who have been torched by those players.

Great analysis.

thanks. if you are being sarcastic, im not sure why. tat is my 3 word summary of his game. did he do much else? not really. did he need too? no. he is a third or 4th gamer learning the craft. he spends most of his time in the forward pocket. if he kicked 2 every week id be stoked, despite what else he did.

Dunn should have been dropped, and really, really, really should be dropped this week.

Agree. What position does he play exactly???

Just doesn't get enough footy to play as a wingman, has no influence in marking contests so can't play tall. 12 disposals playing midfield on a weekly basis just isnt enough. Did he do a tag this week? I barely noticed him at all.

I really hope his spot is taken by a younger player (Bennell, Jetta, McNamara) next week. I've seen enough of Dunn.

I agree .

I am not denigrating the boy - he has a great future , but he WAS torched today . [censored] happens .

dude, how the hell can you make comments on the game if you didn't even go? you posted at 4.44pm..the game finished at 4.45pm. bloody joke. your comments show that you have no idea about footy and didnt even go and support them by rocking up today. Here is my 3 word analysis from someone that actually went to the game:

Bartram - tackled and hassled

Bate - 4 goals straight

Bruce - prolific and effective

Cheney - good overhead marking

Davey - great despite clangers

Dunn - found some space

Grimes - loose ball gets

Johnson - great despite hitouts

Jones - goal main highlight

Maric - 2 easy goals

Martin - Many high spoils

McDonald - Many quick clearances

McLean - great in close

Miller - made no mistakes

Moloney - great. handball happy

Morton - Great despite smother (costly!)

Petterd - always looked dangerous

Robertson - contested and rewarded

Sylvia - had great fundamentals

Warnock - hardly noticed him

Whelan - best small defender

Valenti - good goal assist

Hey Frock , I live 10 minutes from the ground and can assure you that I was at the game . I do admit however that I left with 12 minutes to go , precisely when Davey lobbed the ball right into Aker's lap in front of goal .

Thank you , however , for paying so much attention to my movements .

Can you please tell me which of my comments show that I have no idea about football , whilst you , on the other hand , are all knowing ?

Why would u leave with 12 mins to go when u live 10 mins from the ground? We were still in it... right til the very end. In all likeliness, had the game gone for 5 more mins we probably would have got up.

Weak effort joeboy. :o

I had to go to the toilet ! .

What's it any of your business why I leave the game early ?

If you hardly noticed Warnock than you should open your eyes because he was great and he's been great all year.

LOL ! Fair enough...

Obviously none of my beeswax, but, when you've been as bad as we've been for so long, games where the margin is 3 goals or less at the 15-20 min mark of the final term, against a finals-bound team, are like gold!

I know i wasn't gonna be leaving until i heard the siren. But when u gotta go, you gotta go, i guess! ;)

Joeboy watch thr replay mate! Morton was on Murphy In the 1st Qtr.. Grimes DID have a decent game!

my big stat for the day was first game morton grimes maric and cheney played together.

Well for starters, your comments on Jack Grimes beggar belief.

In for your quick snipe with absolutely nothing more to offer. Another truly informative and thought provoking post. Keep up the good work Bob

And further to Joeboy's erratic assessment:

Bate - best game this year, although a lot of room for improvement granted. Look forward to seeing him on a HFF with a settled and competent forward structure not to mention delivery.

Morton - enjoy watching him now, enjoy it more with another two years experience. He'll garner Brownlow votes.

Grimes - third game FFS. Whoops! He made a few errors against a relatively star-studded team. Couldn't fault his natural ability and passion to belong at the highest level however.

The horse goes before the cart Joeboy, or hadn't you noticed.

Cheney - cool and composed

He kept popping up just at the right time.

By the way, is it Chain-nee or Chee-nee? Not all that important as we call him Ron (after Ron Weasley), but just curious :)

Posted

I think we were at different games. The one I watched was at the 'G. Disagree strongly with a fair few of your assessments...

Posted

I am excited by Grimes, already looks like he belongs. Quality of disposal is great and he is quick.

Morton always knows where to be and gets a lot of the footy. He turned it over a few times, but for the most part seems to have plenty of time and has the ability to create space.

Posted

Joeboy I've just watched the replay of the first quarter. Grimes played on Hahn, Murphy and Johnson at different times. The backline rotate depending on matchups. Morton started on Murphy and was on him a number of times when he got the ball.

Grimes lacks physical strength and was worked off the ball by stronger opponents today on more than one occasion. I thought your three word analysis of him last week was harsh but fair. Your assessment of him today is, as you say, one to forget.

Posted

well i for one isn't a big wrap for grimes kicking..his drop of the ball is awkward. Anyway, his overhead marking ability is fantastic, like cheney. in fact he is very similar to cheney i reckon. Also with Rivers, Frawley and Garland back. I think Grimes and Cheney will be made to look even better.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
