Let's reverse the roles and look into the future about 3 or 4 years when we are flying as a top 2 team, and we are coming up against the other top team in the comp who plays at Etihad, wouldn't you want that game shifted so as many people as possible could see it at the G?

I know that might not happen if they have to shift Collingwood, but as long as we are going to only pull a crowd of about 20,000 for the WCE game, i think in terms of the game of AFL and the comp itself it would absolutely be the right decision.

At least they're not taking away one of our Saturday home games. Then I'd really be [censored]!

Of course the AFL will adequately compensate us if the game is moved. It would have to underwrite all of our costs and ensure that we break even. That would definitely be a better result for us than a repeat of the recent fiasco of a home game v Adelaide when we had to write out a cheque for the pleasure of playing a game at home.

Normally i would be first to jump up and down about a home game at docklands, however if the result is cost neutral then i think it is good for us. If anyone really believes we would get close to 25k this year, middle of winters to a MCG game v Port they are kidding themselves.

Good chance to sit in a reserved area for MFC members as well! the atmosphere at ground level will be electric on the wing if it happens!

Damn right, condemned. I have great reserved seats at the G and will be livid if the game's moved. Just a disgrace of the highest order. You can't just move games from a team's home venue halfway through a season. Imbeciles.

I am dead against it. St Kilda will win it if it's played at Docklands. Geelong will win it if it's played at the 'G. It's rostered to be played at the former. If moving the game may change the result, then it should not be moved.

Forget gate takings or profits. If the AFL changes a game's result mid-season by moving a game, then the competition is compromised.

It's not just about that. It's about getting as many people as possible to see the game. What happens if they don't shift this game ( probably the most anticipated of the year) and 30,000 people are shut out, plus all the poor bastards that can get into the game on time and end up standing in a queue till quarter time at Eat A Turd Stadium.

Then what happens? The talkback lights up like a christmas tree, the media on monday take the AFL to the cleaners and make them look like an incompetent load of hags. There have been games in the last couple of years that probably should have been shifted too! A PR disaster.

I understand that Nasher. I've read Condemned and Pantaloon's posts. I understand members and supporters frustrations because of paid/reserved seating. Hell, I'm one of them. I'm p####d off too - if it happens.

I'm sort of on the fence with this, i hate docklands, IMO it is the worst venue to watch any sporting event, but in saying that we will most likely make a loss at the G vs Port, and the only way that we should agree without making a fuss is if the AFL compensates us handsomely.

But if not, and we do get moved, the club should make this as difficult as possible to happen. Personally i'm leaning towards just telling them to stuff it.

Exactly. Yes, St Kilda are 7-0, and look very likely to play in a GF against Geelong. But what happens if the AFL make this decision to switch venues, and then St Kilda hits a form rut and the game loses some of its appeal?

I agree.

I also don't think it's fair on the Bulldogs, who last year wanted their Geelong v Bulldogs match to be moved to Docklands instead of Skilled Stadium so that more of their fans could see it. It didn't happen. Different circumstances and arragements, sure, but there have been plenty of instances where clubs have wanted venue switches and haven't got it. The AFL choosing to do so this year, when I haven't even seen St Kilda publicly ask for it, would reek of money, money, money.

if we agree to this, it should not be for breakeven. we need to be financially induced to accept such an offer. moving to etihad should be no different to moving interstate. if it is not at the mcg it is not at our homeground.

as a result i would expect we ask for that time of compensation.

if there is a genuine concern, why not move st kilda versus melbourne from the GC to etihad in round 10? or round 13 north vs bulldogs? or round 13 essendon carlton (both TD tennants) but playing at the g? round 19 essendon v brisbane?

i think if they are short availability for one match it should be bad luck. its not like they dont have a great run at home this year. these are some of the highlights of st kildas draw this year (on reflection, they have no excuse not to finish prominently on the ladder this year):

• 15 of 22 games to be played at the Telstra Dome

• The first time in five seasons the Club embarks on just one Perth trip

• No game at the Gabba for just the second time in 12 years

• Monday Night Football against Collingwood in Round 7

• A return to the Gold Coast for a home clash against Melbourne in Round 10

• Just one game each against the 2008 Grand Finalists, including playing Hawthorn in Tasmania

• Home and away matches against Melbourne, Essendon, West Coast, Kangaroos, Sydney, Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs

It's our home ground and that should be the end of story.

I don't like these kind of precedents.
