In the article about the St kilda/Geelong round 14 game at the docklands being shifted to the G. the round 15 game melb vs port adel mcg game is planned to be shifted to the docklands so the afl fufills the 46 games at docklands contract.

There will be lucky to be 10,000 ppl at the docklands.

Will we be financally compensated for the shift?

And it only warrants a 1 sentence mention?

You can bet that if we get any compo at all from this shift, the AFL will dress it up as a "competitive balance fund" payment, and act as if they were doing us a favour.

Makes me want to spew.

With the current stadium deal fiasco this could get quite nasty.

i expect our CEO will have a few words. Dam i might have to go to that stupid toy stadium this year after all F@#$%^&k.

Let's reverse the roles and look into the future about 3 or 4 years when we are flying as a top 2 team, and we are coming up against the other top team in the comp who plays at Etihad, wouldn't you want that game shifted so as many people as possible could see it at the G?

I know that might not happen if they have to shift Collingwood, but as long as we are going to only pull a crowd of about 20,000 for the WCE game, i think in terms of the game of AFL and the comp itself it would absolutely be the right decision.

At least they're not taking away one of our Saturday home games. Then I'd really be [censored]!

I don't agree with the transfer, but MFC supporter are just as bad as the AFL if they refuse to go to the game.

It's an absolute joke! The AFL better flip the whole bill, there will be less then 20,000 there. Could have got the 24,000 needed at the G but no chance we'll make money from a game at Docklands.

Of course the AFL will adequately compensate us if the game is moved. It would have to underwrite all of our costs and ensure that we break even. That would definitely be a better result for us than a repeat of the recent fiasco of a home game v Adelaide when we had to write out a cheque for the pleasure of playing a game at home.

If this move shocks etihad into action on the stadium deals then great, so long as we don't lose money I don't really mind.

Normally i would be first to jump up and down about a home game at docklands, however if the result is cost neutral then i think it is good for us. If anyone really believes we would get close to 25k this year, middle of winters to a MCG game v Port they are kidding themselves.

Good chance to sit in a reserved area for MFC members as well! the atmosphere at ground level will be electric on the wing if it happens!

I think as a club we need to stand up and so NO!!!

Let's not get pushed around, let's play on our home ground!

I think st. kilda would prefer to play at etihad considering how well they play there!

SO where do those of us with reserved seats get to sit, It better be in a good spot, if I'm stuck in a pocket I'll be mega [censored].

Demetriou mentioned on "On the Couch" last night, that clubs will be compensated if a move did take place. Still a long way to go before Round 14 comes around. Circumstances may change.

Read above. ;)

Damn right, condemned. I have great reserved seats at the G and will be livid if the game's moved. Just a disgrace of the highest order. You can't just move games from a team's home venue halfway through a season. Imbeciles.

I am dead against it. St Kilda will win it if it's played at Docklands. Geelong will win it if it's played at the 'G. It's rostered to be played at the former. If moving the game may change the result, then it should not be moved.

Forget gate takings or profits. If the AFL changes a game's result mid-season by moving a game, then the competition is compromised.

It's not just about the cash for the club though. If people have paid hefty prices for reserved seats all season and then get shafted by having to sit somewhere crap at Etihad, they have a right to be pissed IMO. It isn't just the club that is disadvantaged, it's everyone who has paid for reserved seating. (See condemned and pantaloons' posts).

The AFL compensation makes up for the expense for the club, but it doesn't make up for all the paid up members who have been ripped off.

I don't think that's really the point.

Personally it doesn't affect me one way or the other, however I still hope Schwab fights this. It doesn't strike me as a fair or reasonable thing to do, it's about money grubbing and nothing else.

Agree on both points Nasher.

It's not just about that. It's about getting as many people as possible to see the game. What happens if they don't shift this game ( probably the most anticipated of the year) and 30,000 people are shut out, plus all the poor bastards that can get into the game on time and end up standing in a queue till quarter time at Eat A Turd Stadium.

Then what happens? The talkback lights up like a christmas tree, the media on monday take the AFL to the cleaners and make them look like an incompetent load of hags. There have been games in the last couple of years that probably should have been shifted too! A PR disaster.

I understand that Nasher. I've read Condemned and Pantaloon's posts. I understand members and supporters frustrations because of paid/reserved seating. Hell, I'm one of them. I'm p####d off too - if it happens.

Satan asked, "Will we be financially compensated for the shift?"

I replied, "Demetriou mentioned on "On the Couch" last night, that clubs will be compensated if a move did take place. Still a long way to go before Round 14 comes around. Circumstances may change."

?

Sod both the cats and Saints fans, cats have kardinia park, saints have Etihad stadium as their home grounds, THEIR CHOICE! We have the MCG! I have paid good money to have a seat in the Southern Stand at the MCG, not at Etihad stadium, I hate the ground, I do not want to go there.

Sod the AFL, Melbourne should refuse! Say [censored] off and give us a better draw and we might even entertain helping you out.

Unless we get 800k Stynes should tell the AFL to [censored] off.

So why do they have to move our round 15 game v Port, is it appease Etihad's contract of minimum number fo games per season?

I'm sort of on the fence with this, i hate docklands, IMO it is the worst venue to watch any sporting event, but in saying that we will most likely make a loss at the G vs Port, and the only way that we should agree without making a fuss is if the AFL compensates us handsomely.

But if not, and we do get moved, the club should make this as difficult as possible to happen. Personally i'm leaning towards just telling them to stuff it.

Yes that is the case

Demetriou mentioned on "On the Couch" last night, that clubs will be compensated if a move did take place. Still a long way to go before Round 14 comes around. Circumstances may change.

Exactly. Yes, St Kilda are 7-0, and look very likely to play in a GF against Geelong. But what happens if the AFL make this decision to switch venues, and then St Kilda hits a form rut and the game loses some of its appeal?

I agree.

I also don't think it's fair on the Bulldogs, who last year wanted their Geelong v Bulldogs match to be moved to Docklands instead of Skilled Stadium so that more of their fans could see it. It didn't happen. Different circumstances and arragements, sure, but there have been plenty of instances where clubs have wanted venue switches and haven't got it. The AFL choosing to do so this year, when I haven't even seen St Kilda publicly ask for it, would reek of money, money, money.

if we agree to this, it should not be for breakeven. we need to be financially induced to accept such an offer. moving to etihad should be no different to moving interstate. if it is not at the mcg it is not at our homeground.

as a result i would expect we ask for that time of compensation.

if there is a genuine concern, why not move st kilda versus melbourne from the GC to etihad in round 10? or round 13 north vs bulldogs? or round 13 essendon carlton (both TD tennants) but playing at the g? round 19 essendon v brisbane?

i think if they are short availability for one match it should be bad luck. its not like they dont have a great run at home this year. these are some of the highlights of st kildas draw this year (on reflection, they have no excuse not to finish prominently on the ladder this year):

• 15 of 22 games to be played at the Telstra Dome

• The first time in five seasons the Club embarks on just one Perth trip

• No game at the Gabba for just the second time in 12 years

• Monday Night Football against Collingwood in Round 7

• A return to the Gold Coast for a home clash against Melbourne in Round 10

• Just one game each against the 2008 Grand Finalists, including playing Hawthorn in Tasmania

• Home and away matches against Melbourne, Essendon, West Coast, Kangaroos, Sydney, Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs

It's our home ground and that should be the end of story.

I don't like these kind of precedents.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
