I said in an earlier post on this thread that any contract can be challenged and the same goes for elections. It's just that that dodgy process in 96 didn't need to be tested because of Hawthorns result.

I think a good indication of both clubs' positions will be at the end of the year when profit and loss statements are confirmed. I expect both Melbourne and North to see losses exceeding $1 Million in this financial climate.

WJ you have no idea of the power of Vic footy supporters. I would guess if we had a choice of merge or die, I would rather die. There is only one MFC, THE D's, the Red legs. I would give up AFL. Shame on you WJ. the AFL my be a business, but the MFC is my life, WJ forgets this that most supporters from all clubs feel the same way. What if MFC had to merge with Eddiewood.

I agree Totally. The idea of a merge is just not on. I would never support a merged club whoever it was. I Barrack for the Demons. Like "Checker Hughes" He was the man who gave us that name, & may it be there forever.

If the club does ever Fold so be it. As in a Family Death Bury the memories with dignity & move on.

on sen this morning that melbourne and north melbourne are merging in 2011. Stynes and Eugene Arocca have come to an agreement that both these struggling clubs are in need of money and merging is the most appropriate option.

A lot of players face the chopping block because of this: In my opinion, Lynden Dunn, Mark Jamar, Clint Bartram, Jake Spencer (Gold Coast) will go by the end of the year.

This merger rubbish is just drivel from someone who doesn't give a stuff about Victorian clubs and their history.The media are all over it because they hope it will grow some legs and give them (ridiculously over staffed football media) a story they can string out for a while to keep themselves employed.

Thanks for that Mr Jackson ... However, why just stop at two teams merging!!!

If you "really" want to build a strong competition all teams should be forced to vote on a merge.

Lets put it to the vote ... every club in the AFL puts it to their membership to a vote YES or No for their club to merge. Dont worry about another team ... the vote is purely and simply about your club.

Call it a "Merger Referendum" if you want. Importantly the AFL would put on the table pre vote what the clubs would get if their memberships were to vote yes.

If a club votes Yes ... that their decision. They then can open negations with another club.

If the club votes NO. They then shut up and get on with things and stop this nonsense every few years calling for other teams to merge. Lets put the matter to bed once and for all. Then we can start concentrating on the real issues.

IMHO were all in this game together and time we started acting that way.

There in lies our biggest problem. Mergers are always emotional debates, where clear thinking normally get thrown out the window.

The AFL could easily "force" a club to the wall ie give them a terrible fixture, deliver them a poor stadium deal, withdraw financial support when they choose, etc, etc , etc

If we put this debate to bed once and for all ... maybe we can "force" the AFL to start focusing on the real issues.

2. The media in this state are puppets to any big noting nobody who wants to spew up their opinion on the woes of the world & how to fix them.
