  1. Thanks for the thread OneBeer (Ein Stein <_< ) brought back memories. I was there, sure I was able to vote, but was downstairs and watched it on the screens. Guess what I was trying to say was that so many voted for the merger. Does this mean I can take down that picture of Don Scott (finally)? UJ
  2. Surprised? Why? 52% of our loyal supporters voted for a merger with Hawthorn! UJ
  3. Ah, the classic what comes first the chicken or the egg? This is in reality a very difficult question. The MFC has a product to sell. Sadly this product is broken and has been for quite a time. Initiatives, whilst they may come from the ranks, are put into action by the people who run the organisation. You address the issue from the bottom up and this is admirable it is only a temporary solution if the product is broken. Jimma and his boys are doing a great job and it is going to take time (and I suspect that it will take longer than we think and hope). People will come when the product is fixed. Will they come before it is fixed? Hopefully yes but realistically. no. Uj
  4. Perhaps you hit the nail on the head albeit inadvertantly. You put up with mediocrity and are happy to take any morsel that is doled out to you. Expect the best, how else will the team ever win a flag if it embraces mediocrity? BTW. I'm a full MCC menber and choose to buy premium Demon membership to support the club. I've done this for over ten years. UJ
  5. The $AFL are very good at taking the money for the broadcast rights but exceptionally bad at running the fixturing. Whilst classic games such as the Bombers v Magpies Anzac Day game are a big event it does show a bias towards certain teams within the competition. The Etihad stadium deal is only one example of the $AFL being clueless in the nitty gritty of negotiations. Another example is the allocating of games on tv, pay tv and radio. It is the nitty gritty of these types of negotiations that determines a club's profitability. Dimwitriou doesn't care as he is on a million dollar salary. Personally I have a real issue about Sunday twilight games, they screw up my Sunday nights. Whilst I do like my footy I do have a life elsewhere. Sunday twilight games are a bad idea and when you add a fixture which is poor in the first place, what do you expect? A full house? I don't think so. Supporters come in two groups: one which will take all the rubbish the $AFL doles out and then complains why supporters don't turn. The other group simply does not put up with the rubbish handed out. How would you rather be treated as, a king or a pauper? All clubs should be treated equitably. Collingwood gets a dream run in its' fixturing. How about some twilight games for them. UJ
  6. I'm a traditionalist but understand that change is sometimes necessary for marketing reasons etc etc. However the changes made seem to be for change's sake. For example when we changed to that insipid blue we had a few years back, the dropping of the Demon (remember the pc rubbish about the Bombers a few years back?) and the away jumpers. We seem to be incapable of producing a good away jumper (IF WE have to HAVE ONE). No one seems to have the courage to say NO, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Let's get serious in how we market the club. The latest is the insipid Demon logo we have, methinks he has been gourging himself at Maccas when in recess. He is not lean and mean and mighty (even unclean) instead he is fat and lazy looking. Some fearsome logo, I don't think so. Hell, he is so fat he wouldn't be able to stand on a set of skis. I've just finished reading The Red Fox. Wonder what he would have to say about the way the club is run. UJ
