Changes v Adelaide

Cheney or Grimes would come in if Warnock is out. While we'd need to have Warnock playing, we can cover his loss. Frawley just takes one of their bigger forwards, while Grimes / Cheney take the smaller forward... We'll still have 3 key defenders in Rivers, Martin, Frawley...

Grimes only played 60 to 70% of the game at Casey.

I think it may be linked to being to passive, worried about the pressure & the pressure of expecting to be crunched. He may grow out of it.

I doubt it.

Is that another way of saying the player is "timid"?

Can you explain how Brad Green, Brad Miller and Stefan Martin deal with it?

Who did Bartram play on?

Bartram played on Nahas and was towelled up by a rookie. He constantly gives his opponent 2-3 meters space, I'm still not sure why, perhaps he thinks he can do some damage if there's a turnover. I also think it's useless playing a dedicated tagger in the backline. We need tight accountable players who can spoil, win the ball and then create and hit targets from the backline. I don't think Bartram is capable of doing these things on a consistent basis. He might have the odd good quarter, but that's about it. Changes for mine,

OUT: Green, Bartram, Bate

IN: Grimes (if fit, if not Cheney), Maric, Robertson (Looks ready to go)

If Robbo is ready, then Bate may go. Bartram will play (there's nothing surer). Someone said they get nervous when he's got the ball. Gee, each time Ricky Petterd kicks for goal i cant look!!! Even during the pregame warm he was trying out his Stephen Kernahan helicopters!!!! you would never put any money on James McDonald kicking for goal either!!!

So McDonald for Green and thats it

People are being a bit harsh on Bater.

The guy is 192cm and still learning the game. He does have to close the gap on the difference between his good and bad games, but he is far from inept at ground level for a bloke that height and I haven't seen much to suggest he is afraid of the physicality of the game.

I agree with you Choko, but a newspaper article before the Nth Melb game about him, said he'd been learning and practising leading structures. Havent seen anything to suggest he's put anything in place yet. Forward line will become more crowded when Robbo returns.

Anyway, he's usually a beautiful kick of the footy at goal so we'll leave it to the 'powers at be'

Some of you learn nothing from those you laud.

Stynes said after the game that the fans have to be patient.

Where is the patience with Bate after one awful game, and Batram after one hard-working if error riddled game?

They are not all going to come on like Frawley this year, some might take a few months like Garland last year, and some might not come on at all.

But we are certainly in the position to give them opprtunities.

Couldn't agree more.

Baters played one bad one, I'd be very surprised if he gets dropped.

I don't think Macca will come up so:

In: Maric, Bail

Out: Green, Bartram

bate was BOG last week, or close to it depending on who you spoke with. he wont get dropped for a poor game.

i don't think we will make many changes unless they are forced. green ouyt obviously, mcdonald in for him if fit. if not maric is the most likely in.

i cant see us dropping anyone else after winning.

I think Bail for Bartram might happen but not quite yet.

Couldn't agree more, but that doesn't mean we just keep playing the same players every week.

I agree that Bate shouldn't be dropped, it wasn't that long ago that he's been our best target down forward, and kicked multiple goals... He had a bad game, but he's allowed that as a forward.

However on Bartram, it's not like he's not been given opportunity... Given the weakness of our list, he's always played when he's been fit. However long term, I can't see him being in our best side... He was on the fringe this week, being named in the extended bench, with Junior back this week, I think it's time for him to go down to the 2's... Let him play in the guts, just win the footy and not worry about tagging anyone, and let him work on the offensive side of his game...

Couldn't agree more.

Bail didn't play for Casey at all this week, so there's no possible way he'll come in. If junior doesn't come up then either Bartram will keep his spot, or Cheney will play.

*It's a way of saying the kid is timid, by measurement of what we've come to expect an vfl/afl player to do over the years.

*Brad green had it to a degree, & broke free from it last year after his teamates left him out of the leadership group.

*Brad Miller has it when he has the ball in front of goal & has time to reflect on the negatives.

*Stefan Martin I don't have an opinion as yet.

I've not given up on Bate by any stretch of the imagination. I've got a sd dvd recorder & learnt to record & playback. For the first time in a couple of years I have studied our games this year over & over. Bate has been doing some very nice things, usually supportive or receiving, rather than being the playmaker, apart from his nice kicking to position. Thats been quite good

Shane Valenti would surely be called up this week? He can be a straight swap for green cause he is a great kick, can rotate threough the midfield and can create run of half back flank.

35 touches last game and the week befor got I think 28.

Rubbish. Dont get fooled by his silky skills, Brad Green goes in hard when he has to. He has been like that for some years now.

Brad Miller has hardness in spades.

One he is a rookie. Two he is not a replacement for Green. Three, I would suggest that Maric, Grimes, Junior and Wona would return before they would elevate a rookie. Four, according to my trusted spies at Casey it was a good Valenti game but nothing to warrant elevation at this point.

Valenti wont help us.

We are loaded with hard bodied midfielders - McLean, Jones, Sylvia, Dunn, Moloney and Junior if he returns.

I cant believe alot of you want too drop Bartram. He has a real go! Dunn looked really good as an attacking player. i hope too see Valenti elevated. He has a real go also! Bate should be first dropped if there has to be one.

Out: Green

In: Maric

Each week these threads are laughable and chock full of ridiculous changes that simply won't happen. I saw someone saying Bail will come in to the side - are you serious? He hasn't played for the last two weeks at Casey! Robbo coming in? Bailey already stated he is still at least two weeks away from a return. Bate getting dropped? Good grief...

If there are any changes to be made this week, it will come down to McDonald and Maric for Green. If someone else were to get dropped they would be VERY stiff, and even then I can't see anyone else missing out unless it's an injury. Bartram won't be dropped and I can't understand why people think he will be. So he's not the most skilled player out there, but he is one of our hardest workers and he can shut down opposition players. Someone mentioned that he played on Nahas - I think you'll find that, when Nahas acually did something in the third quarter, he was being tracked by Bennell.

It would be nice to see some form of reality in these threads for at least ONE week.

I wasn't talking about specifically, 'hardness', but more 'fear', in some of it's differing forms. It can effect sports people in all different ways.

The yips in golf, etc.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
