Major Sponsor

The Moderator, "Fan", I trust in consultation with his confreres, has made the arbitrary decision to close a previous thread down, relevant to this topic.

May I ask "Fan" for any possible justification in doing so.

I may stridently disagree with "Hazy" and "RFlowering". However, the previous topic under debate is pivotal to our Club's future.

Would the moderators kindly explain why such a decision was taken.

In my view, such a decision is a disgrace.

The heading of this thread, IMHO, is NQR. Of course we can, its a matter of whether it is a suitable deal or not.

A better heading would be MFC's Negotiating Skills or Ideas To Solve Lack of Major Sponsor.

I know this seems petty, but i think on this topic it is important to start by setting the tone in the desired manner.

Depends on what you're trying to achieve.

Really? I thought the debate had well & truly run its course.

The thread failed to serve a purpose other than bickering.

It wasn't really an argument anymore, it had degenerated into trading posts pointing out pedantic faults in others' previous posts.

The real issue that emerged was: Have Stynes & Schwab had enough time in their current roles to be judged on their performance?

Personally i think that they've not yet had enough time. Thats it.

Maybe we could turn it into a poll? That would solve a lot of dramas

But anything regarding past boards & administrations that was coming into it were irrelevant to the original point of the thread, that was: MFC still don't have a major sponsor.

I'm sure moderators would welcome a constructive discussion on this topic.

Not trying to be critical, just trying to provide some perspective.

Fair enough.

Clearly, this Forum is not for me.

In my view, until we actually do get a major sponsor, then the debate is not resolved and goes beyond "it had degenerated into trading posts pointing out pedantic faults in others' previous posts."

There is so much more that needs to be debated and many ideas need to be exchanged. If all you want is blanc mange on this forum, then I will leave you to it.

I will now take my leave of this forum and hopefully some of our paths will cross at the footy this year.

Go you mighty Dees. See ya in the soup, or as mi old Irish dad used to say, if I don't see ya through the day, I will see ya through the window.

Agreed, Iva.

Would be nice to know what constitutes a thread shutdown. I thought it was just warming up.

A discussion on whether the current board is any good would be more interesting than how buff Moloney looks right now.

While I have no idea how to fix the current situation any more than the next person I would like to see the blue print from the likes of Hazy (nice handle too, kudos) and Rflow. It is fine to not believe the current board is the right one but what is the way forward?

To shut it down seems strange. Is there a good reason?

I didn't read the previous thread, but removing threads which are critical of the club essentially just sweeps the issues under the carpet. Which has been a problem with the club for a long time. A sense of mediocrity and this boys club where we'll pat each other on the back for what everybody else would consider as underachieving.

While I do agree with the principle that everyone needs to be united during tough times - of which the MFC's is now - I do think that people have the right to question the way things are being done and whether Stynes and Schwab's honeymoon period is over or not.

I'd say the thread was closed because many of the posts had dropped to petty squabbling and personal attacks, rather than a discussion of the issues.

However, I didn't close it and don't have any 'inside' info.

I agree that people have the right to critically assess and debate aspects of the Club, but personal attacks are probably breaches of the Demonland Code of Conduct that have been around a while (before I agreed to help out with moderation).

The Moderator, "Fan", I trust in consultation with his confreres

You know what they say about assumptions...

If you want to know why Fan did something I'd suggest asking him.

Despite the subject suggesting this was about our sponsorship woes this isn't really a footy topic, it's a moderation one. As such maybe it should be on the moderation board.

I closed the thread because it had become an egotistical chest beating exercise by just a few people. No new points were being raised and no "fresh light" was being thrown on the issue.

In addition I was receiving PM's from other posters who thought it offensive and received support from posters when it was closed.

No Ivor, I didn't ask the other moderators if I should close it. Firstly if we had a committee meeting every time an issue like this arose nothing would get done and secondly there is no reason the topic can't be discussed in other threads. If you have decided that because of a closed thread Demonland is not for you then fine and well, but I suggest you try and show a little more resilience.

And Deebest if you didn't read the thread how can you suggest we are sweeping important issues under the table? The "uh-oh" thread was four pages long for heavens sake, how is that denying people an opportunity to debate important club decisions? I suggest you read the thread and you'll see how silly and petty it had become. It's still there for all to see, it's not hidden in some dark corner so members and supporters can't see it.

With love from your happy moderator,

Fan!

I read very few threads on here anymore, too few people know the meaning of the word "concise" and the phrase "get to the point".

But some people seem to have all day to wade through the rubble and type away, if people want to talk politics let them.

What fan forum isn't full of petty arguing? Heck, what sporting organisation isn't full of politics and in fighting? I respect the desire to 'keep the board clean' and perhaps the personal stuff would best be done via private message. But does deleting stuff or locking threads really solve all the problems?

As for the people who find stuff offensive and complain, they're like the do gooders who write into the Green Guide and sook about Gordon Ramsay saying "F***" all the time and want his show axed. There is a simple solution - don't watch it!!!! Or is this case - just ignore the thread!!!

No need to worry Fan and Rogue, after this post I am outta here. You will not see another post from me again on this Forum.

FWIW, in my view, the decision to close the topic down was arbitrary and ill-informed. LIke I said, if all you want on this Forum is blanc mange, by a Margaret Fulton cookbook.

Hope to see all good DEES supporters at the footy in 2009.

Cheers

LOL Iv'a.

You've just achieved what's called a 'Nellie Melba' as in there's always one more come-back.

Yesterday - "I will now take my leave of this forum."

Today - (I'll just remind you again) I'm leaving the forum!

Personally I think you should hang around, wait until the real action starts and then resume posting.

So...um still no major sponsor then. Hmm well IMO I reckon we will get one.

In honour of Australia Day I would further like to emphasize my view by stating "She'll Be Right Mate" and "No Worries"

Oh and well done to the moderator for locking the other thread. (There's half an hour of forum reading time I will never get back)

P.s I reckon Iva will be back.

Felix

Sorry I can't seem to find the thread, but remember someone mentioning the idea of the Tourism NT (Northern Territory) being a possible sponsor for the Mfc.

I have done some quick research and discovered the following:

"Tourism NT has been allocated $39.4 million in 2008-09 – a 45% increase since 2001."

Their Campaign program has a budget of $21.2 million.

Now surely a couple of those million over 3 years would be well spent trying to lure our supposedly monied supporters up to the beautiful Territory.

Somebody suggested forwarding this idea to the club via the ideas email, has anyone done it?

Considering the fact that we have a great number of players from a variety of regions within the NT, all of whom have a strong presence here and others, particularly Davey having such a good profile in Victoria. Tourism in the NT suffers from a lack of indigenous input. It's what visitors want when they come here. What a great team of indigenous ambassadors they would have at they're disposal if they sponsored us!

Yes, I was privvy to replying to the poster who recommended it on another thread, telling him it was a great idea and that he should email it through. I've shot an email off to the club anyway.

For sure, send it on I reckon. It all helps, as would letters of support to Tourism NT, from members of the club.

I actually mentioned this in the Aussie Thread below as a passing comment, but good work on the research of the NT Tourism stuff.

I guess it would be great. The only thing that I can see that could be a bit of a downfall is having to play a few home matches in NT (Do they have a good stadium ground up there?). Might not bond well with the fact that we trying to get our heels into the Casey area.

But, at the end of the day, if we get a major sponsor out of it who is willing to pay us good money to do so then I'm all for it!

hopefully a betting agency sponsers us ,after whats just happend its opened a few doors.

Hi There

Just a quick report on our last sponsor, inside info:

A:) They spent the money on a new data centre

B:) Don't feel too bad, even the Christmas party was cancelled

C:) There was a general lack of interest in Iprimus from Demon supporters

That about sums up the the whole affair.

Might no be too clever to blame everything on Stynes and Schwab.

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
