Welcome to Demonland - JAMIE BENNELL

Jamie Bennell - top-aged, agile, smart, clean, right footed 178/68 utility with clean hands and superb ball skills below the knees. David Wirrpanda-like in style. Strengths are his ball use, ball handling at ground level, creativity, vision and balance. Has big upside considering he has been traveling from Bunbury every week to play colts for Swan Districts and hasn't been training with the main squad. Main queries over lack of exposed form at higher levels (13 WAFL colts games, 1 reserves game, no U18 championships games although played WA U18 in one of the trial games), build, height and engine. Worth a rookie listing (though seems he's a certainty to get drafted).

"Originates from Bunbury and is a player who Swan Districts officials rate very highly. He is a quick and agile small who displays clean hands and uses the ball well. Attended the WA NAB AFL state screening, where he tested very impressively in the speed and agility tests, recording 2.99sec for 20m and 8.34sec in the agility"

HEIGHT 178.5

WEIGHT 68.2

(very skinny!)

I'm seeing a pattern emerge... pace, foot skills... the two things we lack the most.

Good pace, clean hands and looks to use the ball well...

I'm just a bit surprised we went for an un-known at pick 35 that wasn't invited to the AFL draft.

From what they guys on the radio/bigpond it seemed that WCE were going to pick him up next pick, seemed really highly rated by his club... god I hope he's not a Weetra.

So did Bennell and Jetta play at the same club?

From the first article in my post above:

Neville Jetta from Bunbury Bulldogs along with Jamie Bennell, Frank Quartermaine and Clinton Garlett from Carey Park Panthers are among the nation’s top young footballers and have attracted interest from AFL clubs in what is expected to be a strong year for the draft.

I like the sound of this 'my-brother's-girlfriend's-sister-overheard-a-conversation" quote from bigfooty.

"I heard some Claremont coaches talking about him i think it was Jamie that he turned a game against them and that they couldnt stop him once he went into the midfield. He got every hard ball and clearnace at of the midfield and was easily the quickest over the ground."

Bennell seems to have a solid body, big leap and speed. Excellent!!!

Never heard of him. Ash Smith was taken after him. Personally i never rated Smith. He was super, super quick, but from what i saw, disposal was shocking.

Going to look forward to seeing him in action to seems like we are going with players who are quick with good disposal!

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
