Upholding the integrity of the National Draft process.

Yeah never mind upholding the integrity of the salary cap, or anti-doping code, or general fairness of the draw... as long as the National Draft has integrity, the whole competition will be just fine

The AFL it seems. Upholding the integrity of the National Draft process.

I hope you don't believe that.

It's nothing to do with integrity of the draft and everything to do with money (ironically, the same reason we want to announce it early).

 They've got to uphold something at least..

There's a lot of 'upholding' going on between the AFL and certain clubs.

Our relationship with the AFL on the other hand, needs a lot of Viagra

IMO Bailey has known who he wants as #1 pick for ages

His not letting on is good strategy for lots of reasons some have already mentioned

Watts IMO is a clear standout

Prendergast is on record as saying the decision was made after the Club travelled to Perth and interviewed the family of Nat and Rich, so you're right in that we've known for a while.

Just reported the Lions are not going to use a pick on Saturday on Cousins. Clearing the way for the Dees to steal the spotlight!

Thats just GGGrreaat!! Now we can expect 15-odd threads on why we should draft Cousins before december 16. Brilliant!

By that Tower, I was referring to Jack Watts and his recruitment to the Dees will be the No.1 news item on Saturday/Sunday, not Ben and his new home. (As discussed earlier in this thread).

Fair enough. Thats something.

I'd still prefer to have a big exposure stand alone announcement in the days leading up where everything else is just regurgitated & barely worth reading.

On saturday, we might be the biggest story, but we'll be among many many other stories.

Fair enough then. :)

May it be a memorable news item for the all MFC supporters, taking up all news outlets time and space.

It's Naitanui or Watts - Barry Prendergast won't add to that until Saturday!

Is that from the Mates of Melbourne function WJ?

Oh gees, there's a surprise!

I actually think that the lack of desire to commit to a name, might mean that we're taking Naitanui, because our decision to draft him will impact a whole lot of clubs and draft choices.

Quick, someone get him drunk and make him talk...

Actually I don't think it will make any difference to pick 3 and beyond. If we take Watts, WC will take NickyNat, and vice versa, with both clubs disregarding the go-home factor. What is likely to have significant ripple effects is Fremantle's pick 3. If, as anticipated, they take Hill, rather than Rich, I think it may cause all sorts of funny business through the first round.

Still want Watts, but NikNat's Grug hairstyle sure is awesome.

Our lack of desire to commit to a name would be due to the AFL asking us not to state our intention pre Saturday. What did you really expect to hear............

To be honest I expected us to say nothing, and tell the members that a decision has been made but we are not willing to disclose the name of the player we're taking before Saturday. Had the club said that, I actually would be more comfortable that we'll take Watts. The fact that we mentioned both Watts and Naitanui, but didn't actually commit to anything, makes me nervous.

Maybe it's just a silly gut feeling, and I do hope I'm wrong, but I have this strong sense that we're going to take Naitanui.

I'm now comfortable with the notion that we're taking Watts. I'm virtually certain.

He's clearly the best player and talent in the draft. Logic tells me that we simply won't overlook him. Even Scott Clayton said on radio tonight that "no one has ever tested to the levels" of Watts in all facets of the game. When one considers his "sure ball handling, size, speed, agility, and psycho motor testing/decision making". "He's going to be a great player, Jack".

As I said, logic tells me we won't look past him. We're all nervous and the mind plays tricks.

Watts will be in no.4 at the Dees.

I've got this image of H sitting in the corner of a padded cell, sitting on the floor, arms wrapped around his legs which are up against his chest.... HUGE bags under his eyes, messy unkempt hair, rocking back and forth muttering "Watts number 4, Watts number 4, Watts number 4, Watts number 4" Over and over again...

If we take Niknat, we can probably get used to this image for a good year or so...

There might very well be two "H's" in padded cells if NN is drafted by us.

I am certain we are taking Watts.

Look at this administration compared to the Gardner era. Stynes and co. have worked hard, been methodical and steady and focused on building, growing, thriving.

Gardner was much more into his quick fixes, gimmicks, risks. Look at his China idea.

Naitanui might have been drafted by MFC a couple of years ago, but not today.

There might very well be 3 "H's" in padded cells if that is the case. "HT" in this case

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

    TRAINING: Wednesday 11th December 2024

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

Some veteran Demonland Trackwatchers ventured down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you the following observations from another Preseason Training Session. WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

A couple of intrepid Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock for the midweek Preseason Training Session to bring you the following observations. Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
