Demons want to return to "their" home

""""MELBOURNE Football Club has revealed its plan to develop an elite training facility within the walls of the MCG as part of a blueprint for the future entitled "Bringing the boys back home".

..........................

Schwab said yesterday: "If this is the paddock that grew, then we are the people that cultivated it."

"We have no suburb to hang our hats on the way clubs like Collingwood and Richmond do. We want our relationship with the MCG to be reflected in everything we do." """"

( The Age )

Very interesting idea. Fantastic if this could come to fruition.

fingers crossed. Schwabby seems to have found his home too :)

fantastic. i thought it has been going that way for a while, it is good to hear something a bit more specific, if not concrete.

Great news. Would love to have our training facilities / admin at the 'G and a summer base at Casey.

Seems like this club is getting its stuff together.

Jack Watts to wear #4!!

Yeah as soon as i saw that i thought the same thing mate, so maybe goose source is wrong?

About the article- i think its great news! It makes sense and a combination of Casey at the summer and the G during the season would make GREAT sense!

Clearly Bubble dome has issues given we have proposed arrangements for only 45 staff and we have 50 staff presently. Its amazing what we are up against when you find out that WCE have up to 150 on staff!!!

Schwab seems to be taking a sensible line through some difficult options.

All awesome news, brightened my day.

Based at the G, developing fans in the City of Casey.

Number 1 draft pick, things are going to get better.

Getting a link back to the MCC is a major deal, hopefully this can get done.

What great news, I have everything crossed for this to come to fruition.

Interesting to read there is not enough office space for the entire mfc at Bubbledome.

The following quotes from Schwabby were music to my ears.....

"We clearly have to be great for the MCC and we need them to be great for us. In 2009, 300,000 people are expected to go through the MCG outside of match days and if you look at an elite sporting club with a football team operating out of it we believe we can bring the stadium to life."

Schwab said yesterday: "If this is the paddock that grew, then we are the people that cultivated it."

We have no suburb to hang our hats on the way clubs like Collingwood and Richmond do. We want our relationship with the MCG to be reflected in everything we do."

At the end of the day it is clear as crystal.

The MCG is a symbol of Melbourne...

It is our birth site

IT IS MELBOURNE.

By all means we should get a foot hold and stake our claim, or 'base camp' in Casey as a development region for the Melbournefc.

The MCG is our summit. Our home.

2009 - A new dawn.

Get it done Schwabby. This is the news I've been waiting for. Love the G, love casey, Love the Demons

so we wont actually train on the G surface

does this mean we will train at gosh's paddock? you have to admit, it would be a little annoying having to go a km to train when u walk out of the change rooms...

this also means our changerooms would probably be in the southern stand on gameday...

The answers for you Nugget, are in the link provided.

Under the proposal, Melbourne would continue to train in the precinct — probably at Gosch's Paddock. - from link provided

this also means our changerooms would probably be in the southern stand on gameday...

Schwab said the Demons were proposing in the short term to take over the two Great Southern Stand changing rooms with a view to becoming a major tenant in terms of administration and football operations - from link provided

Hate to be a wet blanket but all talk at the moment . I will get excited when the bulldozers start

Bulldozers are needed to make the stands bigger. Why you ask? The Demons are coming!! WOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!

No surprise - something that's been mooted on these Boards for a while now.

For those who can remember, I believe Schwab expressed similar sentiments regarding the MCG back when he was appointed CEO.

I wonder why the previous administration never pushed this.

A part of the deal might involve the occasional short training session on the G.

You can halve the km estimate to Gosch's paddock. Don't think it would hurt an AFL footballer to walk 400-500 metres to training. If their rooms were shiny and new, fitted out with all the latest equipment and they were in the G, I think you would see a skip in the step of the Dees, as they walked to and from Gosch's paddock.

If this realignment of the MCC and MFC happens it will be the salvation of the club.

As an added extra, the G will truly become our home and the other clubs will be nothing more than match day visitors.

Just a thought, if we are going to do our winter training at Goshs paddock, who owns the signige rights to all that fencing along Punt rd.

Alot of cars travel punt road daily and the rights should be worth a tidy penny?

What are you on about!!! A Short walk to an oval, Good time to do stretching excercises before hitting the grass. This latest Proposal is Awesome

This would be a great if it was pulled off! Would be even better if we were given permission to have a short training session once a week on the ground, even just a 45 min to hour skills session.

I like the part where Schwab reffered to 300,000 people travelling through the G outside of competetion. The amount of new supporters we could generate by just been the main link towards the G would be substantial I would guess.

The MCG is such a world icon, it would be unreal if we were the major tenant.

This could give us that kick we need to get back in the ball game!

Beats the F out of spending an hour driving to Casey...

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
