It seems that a Port Adelaide player, Adam Thomson, who we were courting a couple of weeks ago, has been contacted by Essendon and wants to go there next season - a deal has been arranged in principle as they say.

Interesting. Would be good fit at Essendon; rated highly in SA, but wasn't given the opportunities.

Is it just me, that every time I see a player linked to us, soon after he lists his preference as another club?

They can have him, we have enough of his type of players, we need pace through the midfield

so you're one of those flogs who automatically equates 'inside mid' and 'able to get his own ball' with slow?

I think it has something to do with posters linking every single out-of-contract player in the AFL to our club... and they're all Ryan O'Keefe type players too would you believe

I'm not at all fussed about these hits and misses. I'd rather use our picks to draft young players who grow and develop in our club and who WANT to be there. Two years ago nobody wanted to go to Carlton or Hawthorn either.

no im not, but in previous threads about this guy he has been put down as having no pace but can get his own ball. We have enough of those types ans we need pace and skill now to compliment Mclean, jones, moloney ;)

Well lets think. We came last, by a good measure, with no percevable upside, we have no home, no training base (despites months of talk), a bunch of novice, unproven coaches and not one champion/marquee player. Oh yes, and we're $zillions in debt.

Can't think why they'd want to go anywhere else? ;)

he has been described as a quick simon black.

from the wisby report in the other 'adam thompson' thread:

*STYLE LIKE: Fairly pacy version of Simon Black

...

*ATHLETICISM:

- Good pace,

perhaps you didnt actually read the thread and simply saw that he was an inside midfielder and made your own conclusions.

You're absolutely right. Good Post. I'd rather use our picks to draft young players at present rather than attract used players to the club with an expiry date. Once we put some "young quality" in, and start to develop then we will start looking more attractive to those on the "move".

From today's Australian:

"Port Adelaide's Adam Thomson, a first-round selection in the 2004 national draft, could be bound for Arden Street after meeting North Melbourne."

It was quoted that in the SANFL final on the weekend he was the best afield by the length of the straight, looks destined for a new club

Off to the Tigers it would seem:

RICHMOND is set to announce the first trade of trade week, sending its third-round draft pick to Port Adelaide in exchange for Adam Thomson.

Richmond's general manager of football, Craig Cameron, said the deal was almost done, with pick 42 likely to be the price.

Bailey must not rate him too high as it would have been easy for us to trump this offer with pick 35. maybe we're holding out for Prismall..?

Apparently a third round draft pick (Pick 42) for Adam Thompson from Port to Richmond. He was drafted by Port as a 1st round draft pick in the ND.

So was John Meesen, so what's your point?

:P Point is, it looks as though the 1st trade has been done in trade week- as reported on SEN. Other than that, there is no point apart from a bit of additional draft history for Thomson. & CAC. What's yours?

Thomson was a promising junior - but thats about it.

Port Fans lament the fact that he had a falling out with Choco but ...

If you watch Sturt in the SANFL - the guy goes down to ground through minimal contact more than anyone in the history of the game.

Kicking is ridicoulosly erratic, not too quick, ball magnet though (just like McGough).

.... got a good handball on him though .. oh right .. and he has a football brain

Should be a good fit at Richmond..

My info is that Melbourne was interested in him when he was first drafted but it wasn't to be which means that CAC finally gets his man. Problem is that his disposal is shite and he would have fit well into the Melbourne team of the past four years. Hopefully, we now only take players who not only fulfil the usual requirements involving athleticism and a football brain but can also kick the bloody thing as well.
