Hawthorn: Trading key to staying up top

TRADING KEY TO STAYING UP TOP

Hawthorn will trade aggressively in coming weeks as it tries to create an era of domination. The Hawks' bid to become bulletproof will start at a list-management meeting this morning.

List manager Chris Pelchen will meet coach Alastair Clarkson in preparation for Wednesday's draft camp, as the club prepares to mount a bid for an experienced key defender.

Hawthorn has the salary-cap room, the inclination and the potential trade bait to be a key player in the October 6-10 talks, and is determined to be aggressive in the market.

trade carroll for pick 81. then use pick 81 as a pass!

No brainer, straight swap Boyle for Carroll.

Carroll would flourish in the Hawthorn defence while we probably need someone to take a key forward spot until Jack Watts (or which ever young KPP we draft) is ready.

A minor win win for both clubs.

I doubt that they'd want our garbage in Carroll.

I'd trade Warnock, but they're after an experienced defender.

If they were prepared to offer Thorp and a 2nd/3rd pick for Rivers, I'd seriously consider it.

would you consider rivers for pick 16?

im not sure i would. i wonder what they would pay for him. he is only about to turn 24.

for the record warnock is 24 and 5 months, and carrol is nearly 28.

I'm more interested in trying to trade for Mitch Thorp. Arrogant sunofabitch but he can seriously play.

Probably not. Even in a strong draft, pick 16 could be hit or miss. I'd rather see us do a trade of players with Hawthorn. How about Jarryd Morton and Simon Taylor for Rivers?

I know everyone says that you draft the best available, but in this year's draft and trading, we should address our needs, ie; kp forwards, ruckmen and line-breaking mids.

May as well give Carroll to Hawthorn.

While it would be practically giving him to them I agree, I just feel Melbourne need to get him out of the club and seeing as he's contracted this may be the only way. Been involved in one to many off field incidents for my liking.

If anyone else mentions that hack Tim Boyle I will find them and kill them.

Tim Boyle, Tim Boyle, Tim Boyle.

Like to see you try.

You seriously should never be allowed back on. That is a disgraceful not to mention illegal comment.

Bit extreme there YM :P How about this instead. To anyone who bothers mentioning Boyle again, read this post I made a little over a month ago. If you bring him up again, I'll just keep posting it, because I'm sick of hearing that people actually want to see this dud wearing the red and blue. Same thing goes for Murphy at Freo. DUD.

Let me put this in perspective for everyone with a few facts that should end this thread any ridiculous notion we should bother with this dud.

Boyle will be 25 in Rnd 1 2009.

He is a (soon to be) 25 year old who has only managed 31 games since he was drafted in 2002.

He has managed 39 goals that 6 years. In a Hawthorn side that until recently was very weak, he still couldnt crack a game.

He has managed 6 games this year for 6 goals in a Hawthorn team, that while Buddy conscious, sends the ball forward more than anyone (bar Geelong).

He averages less than 1 tackle a game. In a team where we desperately need defensive pressure, he has none.

So in essence, he is a Brad Miller, minus aggression, a shred of talent, somehow kicks LESS goals (never thought it were possible) and has the work ethic of a Mexican janitor.

If anything, I'd trade a pick NOT to have him on our list. He is a dud.

I hope you all realise how stupid it is to even bother talking about this guy.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
