A favourite son, I know. And a great story, climbing of the rookie list after a plea by Danners for members to put up the $'s.

BUT, his contribution over the past 2 years has not carried on from his early start. I'm not questioning his ability as much as his output, and impact on the game FOR US. He is 25 next month, and should be peaking (as a small forward). But he's not.

He should have currency in this draft period. And many people on this forum have talked about making tough decisions.

Should be worth a 1st rd pick.

I'm inclined to say YES for the right trade.

Thoughts? (Think about it, don't just abuse me! ;) )

Mono, you're right in that people keep talking about making hard decisions yet are reluctant to let Davey go. But Davey adds more than just his playing worth to Melbourne: kids love him. Lots of kids have number 36 on their jumpers. He is integral to memberships IMO, so we can't trade him.

I reckon we need to trade someone

i really do. picks 1,17,19, 35 and 51 aren't good enough. this is a talented draft, and for MFC to benefit the most out of it, we will need at least one more pick. it is a deep draft

Bartram, Dunn, Jamar are the players we can trade for perhaps some 2nd and 3rd rounders.

The hard decision has to be made on someone decent though and along with a pick 25 that could attract a top 20 pick

It's a good point you make, Titan. Was it not so for Woee and TJ as well tho'?

No. We need to keep him. Would ruin our fabric as a club. Marketing, kids, etc. Little Aussie would go walkabout without Aaron.

Surely you're joking. You wouldn't get a cold pie for them. You're dreaming if you think you'd get second rounders.

Pick 19 for Mitch Clarke (Bris)?

Or Pick 35 and Sylvia for Mitch Clarke(Bris)?

Hey, this topics about Davey. Go start your own.

I think he is played out of position, he is NOT a midfielder and never will be, at best he is a HFF, but he should be kept in the forward 50 for majority of games and then i think we will see the real flash come back

when he did his hammy against the dogs, that scared the sh-- out of him. the explosive pace is over. he doesn't chase with the same intensity, will not pick up an opponent and the blinding movement is over. his best position was at the feet of neita and since he's gone, he's struggling to re-invent himself.

top 10? i doubt a club would.

top 20? maybe the hawks would give up their pick.

only 25- and if we're going off the hawks model, he'll be 29 in the year we win the flag-2012

will a small forward who has immense talent, yet injury prone and will not gain speed be worth having? maybe, if he can get out consistently on the park then yes- but if another club came to us now and said- top 10 pick? or top 20 pick? you'd have to consider it

this is why he shouldn't be traded- should play up foward and dominate like this....

felt like there was 50,000 there that day

and this goal....

and this tackle

remember this game so vividly, against the hawks, who had pretty much same list in 06. without ellis, dew and acouple of others. our list is fairly similar too, but we have awesome youngsters. white, yze, neitz gone- and robbo, moloney, rivers, davey who missed 2008 were in this game

ABSOLUTELY NOT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are absolutely bereft of talent as it is....

Mono I agree with your line of thinking in making a hard decision. Davey is 25, he averages a goal a game. Only an early to mid 1st round draft pick offer by an opposition club would be close to such a deal if the mfc saw the benefits of securing some draftee they had their eye on.

So if the right offer came, I believe Bailey would take it..

If we were offered a first round pick for Aaron Davey we would be mad not to look at it, and I'd lean towards taking it. I understand the point about him being a crowd favorite, but a winning side without Davey will draw more kids to a game than a losing side with Davey. I'm not even going to dignify the "point" about Wonna leaving the club if Davey does, which seems to be supported by nothing more than the fact that they're both black.

He will be pushing 30 by the time we're a serious threat; by that stage he might be able to contribute as an "icing on the cake" type player (to be honest, thats all he's ever been) but he wont be a vital contributer a premiership winning team. With two first round draft picks, we stand a chance of picking up two players who could be.

I know there's more to it than that, and I wouldn't quite call the decision a no-brainer, but I'd be pretty inclined to do it.

YES, If we can get pick 12 or BETTER.

16 Cats

15 Hawks

14 Bulldogs

13 Saints

12 Crows

11 Swans

10 North Melbourne

9 Magpies

8 Tigers

7 Lions

6 Blues

5 Bombers

4 Power

3 Dockers

2 Eagles

1 Demons

If we could do a deal with say the Kangaroos who I've heard are interested, then we might offer say, Aaron Davey + say pick 19, for the Kangaroos picks 10 & 28.

Anyone who wants Flash traded needs a CAT scan..

Aaron is our barometer, a vital cog in our engine, he is our single most important player, bar NONE!!

This talk is merely stupid over analysing..

we should not trade davey, he is becoming a real ladder at the club and what he provides for the indigenous boys at the club is really invaluable. the boys are a tight bunch and i reckon he will have a huge influence in the progression of wonna and any other indigenous boys we pick up.

He's actually a bit overrated, He's handy when he's got the ball & can run & carry & can kick quite nice, but he's nowhere near dynamic enough, & simply doesn't win enough of his own footy.

He would be a great for a strong team that needs a little spice.

But he's not exactly what we Ideally need right @ this moment.

However, an earlier 1st rnd pick, plus another 2nd rnder would add substantially to our growing of young talent & the chances of unearthing a superstar of the comp'.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
