Schwab declines CEO role and other things

John Ralph reported at half time of the Swans/Cats match on Channel 10 that Cameron Schwab had been offered the CEO role and declined. He also said that the club had met with Robbie Warnock last week, given him the full tour, powerpoint etc and used 8 of our younger players to encourage him to join the Demons next year. He said that other clubs felt that Melbourne was over the line to secure his services.

Interesting. Big noting himself, if true. Not smart. (If true, I am pleased - don't want him.)

If we get Warnock in the PSD for nothing, so be it. We gave up Farmer to Freo and Thompson to Adelaide for nothing as well, under similar circumstances.

If Freo want a late pick for him - fine. We then get another go at PSD.

Thompson was traded for pick 12.

At the trade table..

He's coming out of contract and wants to come home to Vic, and we are the only Vic club in first 3 PSD picks. Presuming he wants to come to MFC, best case for us - we get him for 0 (depending on his $ wants); worst case, we get him for a late draft pick (which leaves us to go after any other in PSD).

Freo have bugger all bartering chips.

This is freaking great news.

Let's screw Freo. Get him in the pre season draft. If they want something give pick 90 odd lol.

There is now way we'll give him any of our first 4 picks.

And we got 17 for Farmer, although admittedly we weren't happy about it.

In hindsight it's a good thing we got rid of him before he lost the plot. Who did we get with that pick btw?

Watching Scotty Thompson still breaks my heart... the superstar we almost had.

especially since Freo were over the cap and couldn't use their 1st PSD pick. They also did Hawthorn over with McPharlin. But this maybe just karma as both clubs have history with Freo: Gilbert v Farmer & Jeff White (when Melb was over the cap) & 1st pick (Hodge) v Croad

Another nail in the coffin of dills like Charles Happell who came up with that conspiracy theory about the old mates from the 1990's all getting back together again.

To his credt Farmer insisted that Freo deal with us; he didn't want to leave us high and dry, so we got a first round pick for The Wizz in what is generally considered to be the strongest draft of all. We traded pick 17 and 41 to Geelong for Bizzell; Geelong drafted James Kelly with pick 17 and Henry Playfair with pick 41. The 2001 'superdraft' was a disaster for us: while other teams were gorging themselves silly on quality players we picked up Molan, Rogers, Armstrong, Bizzell (losing Farmer in the process), and Miller. Although, now that I think of it, we also off loaded Grgic in that draft ...

At the moment.

I seem to have got a few things wrong in this topic  , however, I understand Warnock wants to return to Vic. The only other team who could get PSD#1 is WC.

So we are still in box seat.

Stevens went to Carlton for 0 (pretty sure there) because Power wouldn't deal with the filth.

However, Stevens, Farmer, Thompson were all A graders. Warnock has promise, but a long way short of being proven. Not worth early pick, even to be nice.

If John Ralph is right (and who would know?) then why is Happell a dill and why does he have a nail in his coffin?

Happell wrote: "Now Stynes is looking at bestowing patronage of another "mate", Cameron Schwab, whom he has openly urged to apply for McNamee’s vacant position".

Ralph confirms Happell's article. It brings no credit to Jim Stynes and the mates that another "mate" had the good sense to reject Stynes' offer.

Only if Warnock wants to play with us.

If we dont shore him up, MFC will have to use a reasonable draft pick to get a better alternative to what we have now.

Agree with your logic but cant say whether it was good sense or not. Schwab had said that he did not want another CEO role at an AFL club some time ago prior to McNamara's sacking.

Ralph reports that Schwab declines the CEO role. I was under the impression that we were using a company(Slade maybe?) to do the recruiting for us.

Now why would Schwab go through the whole interview process, get offered the job and then decline it?

If he hasn't gone through the interview process, then hasn't he just withdrawn himself? Not declined the job as Ralph reports.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
