And take into account that football hasn't been his no.1 sport and he has been playing school footy and not TAC, but is able to dominate at the carnival tells me he has upside.

l reckon he's the go. apparently Naitunui is not up to speed with the basic skills of the game, bit like taking an Irishman, there are risks

What about Rich from W.A.? He is spruiked as being No.1 over in WA, even over Natanui.

Unlike the past few drafts when we've gone for best available, this year we must draft on a needs basis, ie; ruckman and key position forwards.

Listening to Vic Metro coach David Dickson on SEN this morning, he absolutely raved about Watts, but also mentioned another half a dozen exciting talls in the Vic Metro team, especially Mckernan.

Hopefully this is the year we get it right with some prime picks in a quality draft.

Yes from all reports a gun and whoever gets him are probably onto a good thing.

But what do we need most...I'd say quality KP players [even better of they can play both ends] because they are as rare as rocking horse poo!

So I'd suggest a Hurley or Watts, with Pick No 1, and then the hopefully there is a quality KP prospect left by either picks 17 or 18.

Throw 2 quality KP forwards into a line-up that includes Bate, Davey, Wonaemirri and Maric and you're cooking with gas!

The back line is already starting to take shape.

How we address our ruck & midfield stocks will depend upon how ther PSD lines up and if we can Franky Grimes on the park so we can see what we've got.

Ruckmen? White, Jamar, Johnson and Meesen. White probably has two seasons left in him. Dees should trade him to someone who needs a top up. Maybe to Bulldogs for next year? Swans? (i reckon Everitt has had it).

I understand for key position but we only have pick 1. The others will go before 17. We need to get rid of someone worthy of a pick 7 - 16. So we keep picks 1 and 17 and use 18 as a bargaining chip with a player to get soething from 7 to 16.

We haven't exactly got the best midfielders going around. We need blokes that can get the ball down and with pace and skillful execution. Brock is the only bloke that can do this, but he's not the fastest bloke over 10m.

Walters, Hill and Jetta fit this mould. Given the depth of this draft it's reasonable to expect that one of these would slide to our second pick. I'd be wrapped if we got one of Watts/Naitanui and manage to nab Walters or Jetta.

Jack Ziebell's playing some good footy, and has elite kicking efficiency. Jason Macartney was certainly glowing in his praise. Definitely should grab him if he's available.

Sounds good. Its a pit we missed on getting just 4 wins last year. We'd have 'something like 1,2,18,19,...

Dale Walker from Eastern has a bit of toe as well. Apparently toweled up Dangerfield last month. General word is that he'd be a top 10 pick if his kicking was at a Rich-type level. He's definitely improved though, gone from kicking helicopters left right and centre last year to being pretty consistent at hitting the target

We need a bit of toe and nous in the centre. McDonalds not the answer, but god bless him, he's been a wonderful servant for the club. McLean, Jones, a bit of toe and a competitive tap ruckman who can play as good as Cox for West Coast is what we need.

we need a genuine, contested marking, goal kicking, KPF, most of all. we dont have one of those. we have 6 ruckmen, even if they are old or not quite up to it. but we dont have a forward. we have a pile of possible mids, even if they are not all world class. but we dont have a forward.

I've been told, Jack Ziebell is a very good player, but is slow.

Just a reminder as to who discovered Mr Watts and started this thread.

Well firstly Im starting to wonder if the majority of sports jounalists arent using Demonland as their first port of call ( and who could blame them ). Seems a lot of reporting is paralleling our debates. Isnt it nice to be at the forefront of AFL discussion

I assume you are referring to me mate and my debates. You might want to learn to give credit where credit is due pal.

At the risk of seeming ..he said I said.. I was in no way trying to steal anyones thunder. Please Haydo..take all the credit, though as GL anticipates his parents might argue the point.

I wasnt particularly referring to Watts alone.. but the changing position we find ourselves in and that it seems journos seem to be learning from what we ( as a group !! ) discuss prior to it becoming mainstream.

What is it they say about self praise ?:lol:

You are a superstar Haydo! I'm honoured to be posting in a thread you have started

Does anyone have any footage of Watts?

I wouldn't have any idea as I havent seen any of the kids in action but from what i've read I'm pretty keen on Watts. A key forward would be ideal and he sounds pretty talented in this department. I like what Hawthorn did when they took 2 key position players with their 2 top 5 picks in the draft (Franklin, Roughhead) and have now set themselves up for 10 years.

Just a minute....! I was quoting YOU! When you brought it up again, I was pointing out that some of us had foreseen the necessity of losing round 22 at least three months before it came to pass. Don't pay out on me for living in the past. You took me back there.

I'm confident for the future with the nucleus we've got.

Here we go again. The Bruce and Green bagging show. These guys continue to try their guts out for the team and people come along here and want to trade them. It is getting boring. How about supporting the guys who give their all?

Well spoken mate. Our best two players and the non thinkers on the forum want to get rid of them! I think Sunday showed that with the blending of youth and experience we can play some really good footy. However, playing this brand of footy that we displayed against Brisbane CONSISTENTLY will naturally take time to evolve and won't happen overnight. We will still get excellent draft picks including a priority pick and that's all we need. You must have seasoned, proven players as well as promising, developing youngsters. WE DON"T NEED TO TRADE ANYONE! Due to our poor start I can't see us getting off the bottom of the ladder and we WILL get pick number ONE.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack
