Firstly to answer someones question he is related to Fergus Watts, I think they are cousins from memory.

He would have to be better than Fergus Watts who was also considered a top draft pick but turned out to be a bit of a dud at both Adelaide and St. Kilda.

Theres going to be a lot of "misinformation" and posturing by folks with hidden and no so discrete agendas between now and teh draft. Remember this is the last even one for a long while !! On that basis..time to trim the fat .. and top up where we can on picks.

I will support them, absolutely.

But I expect, come trade week, that the club will offload them if given the right price.

If their value to this club achieving a flag is high draft picks then so be it.

I love the players, but I love the club more.

Secondly, an astute management ought to know when to off load a stagnant assett and take what you can to invest in the new .Thats exactly what Hawthorn did.

Whilst much passion is about trying..results are from DOING !!

Green is starting to perform over the last 4 or so matches, bruce is walking on thin ice as the kids are rapidly passing his ability & he's falling off the standard required @ our club now & into the future. We can't afford to be overly sentimental with good honest triers who lack the go to put their head down over the ball for the team.

Otherwise there's allways, 'Maybe next year'...

My standpoint is simple...always has been. I want the best 22 we can get to have a serious crack at the flag..I really couldnt care, and never have...who they are. Whomever does it ( gets the premiership ) will be the most bloody marvellous group of demons in my supporter life time. If that means trading Bruce, Green Macca.. or Jones I really have no issue with it. What I do have a concern is that the club DOESNT do it when its necessary.

Whilst they go out there and play..I'll barrack for them..as I will tomorrow. Doesnt mean I dont have my eye firmly on the only prize that matters.

Williams had not played much footy and was picked on potential.

Watts is already a proven football talent kicking bags of goals in junior footy whilst splitting his sporting commitments with basketball.

Just heard Jack Watts today kicked 5 goals for VIc Metro today in another BOG display agaisnt SA. Looks the gap between choosing Naita and Watts is closing. Will be a hard choice for the recruiters. 1 ridiculous athlete vs a proven footballer

ummm no. rich will go above watts. the fact that he is not playing well in the u18 champs is irrelevant. cotchin played just as poorly last season and was picked up number 2 and is now playing good footy.

I am jumping on this kids band wagon for the MFC, we need key forwards and Watts looks to be at this stage the best key forward in the draft. I think he has kicked 4, 2 and now 5 goals tall good kick. I'm looking forward to heading to Casey in a couple of weeks to watch all the best u18's go around. We need a key target up forward I would love to see this forward six in three years

FWIW, I get a huge amount of satisfaction watching TJ tear it up for Brisbane. I hope he wins a flag. And, for the record, it was categorically the right decision to make.

THROUGHOUT the remainder of the 2008 NAB AFL under 18 championships, AFL youth and high performance coordinator and former AFL star Jason McCartney will give afl.com.au his thoughts on the players who caught his eye.

Here are his assessments after Victoria Metro defeated South Australia by 53 points at Adelaide Oval on Sunday.

Victoria Metro:

Jack Watts: Jack is a star. He’s one of our AIS boys and he’s also a very talented basketballer. He wanted to balance both footy and basketball through the scholarship program, but in the end he has chosen to go for football because his workload was just too great. He was a star in Vic Metro’s win Vic Country. He was a little bit quiet against Tasmania, but obviously very prominent against South Australia.

He kicked five goals, had 17 disposals and took three really big contested marks. He has great agility, great lateral movement and the ball just melts into his hands.

There has been a lot of talk about the WA boys and how talented they are, but Wattsy is a great kid and is right in that mix.

After watching the Demons this season the Demons have an obvious need for a key forward. It's the biggest onfield gap. Watt's appears to have his own freak brand of athleticism and seems to have the football skills to match. In terms of marketability, if his athletic, pack marking game translates to the senior level, that (and a bit of on field success) should take care of itself for the Dee's.

However, after watching the game at Manuka, we also have a glaring need for a big time clearance winner. We got hammered in the clearances and struggled to win contested ball. Naitanui's a clearance machine, and has averaged 4-5 hard ball gets over the last couple of years. He needs to work on his positioning around the ground, doesn't seem to get much of it outside of ruck contest situations, but that's something he should be able to pick up.

Each player represents a significant need for the club. Big choices to be made.

You don't need to use a top 2 pick to get a clearance winner.

But try picking up a star key forward outside the top 10. I don't think you'll find many.

Fevola - 30s

Richardson - Father son

Lloyd - Compensation

Lucas - 5

Given this, only Fevola was outside the top 12 in the draft. And only 2 out of 9 were outside the top 5!!

It just shows that if you want a star key forward then you have to pony up early when you have the chance.
