Selection v St Kilda

Gouga

In:

Rivers (if fit) - Automatic selection.

Sylvia - Was playing good footy off half back before injury. Disposal and tackling are his strengths, both of which are important in DB's game plan.

Yze - Has done enough at Sandringham to warrant selection. It would have killed Yze to not be at the G for Neita's farewell. That might have motivated his BOG performance on the weekend.

Out:

Bell - Will never question his endeavour but his disposal is hurting us too much at the moment. I don't think Bell has bad skills, more bad execution of those skills under pressure. He needs to return to Sandy and work on that area.

Frawley - Has had a lean few weeks and is behind Garland and Warnock at the moment. Makes way for Rivers.

Robertson (inj) - Was good until injured on the weekend. Considering he couldn't play out the game I have him down as an unlikely starter.

Backs: C.Bartram, M.Warnock, C.Garland

Half backs: S.Buckley, J.Rivers, C.Sylvia

Centres: A.Davey, B.McLean, B.Moloney

Half forwards: M.Bate, B.Miller, A.Wonaeamirri

Forwards: B.Green, B.Holland, A.Yze

Followers: M.Jamar, C.Bruce, N.Jones

Interchange: P.Johnson, J.McDonald, C.Morton, S.Valenti

Emergencies: D.Bell, J.Frawley, C.Johnson

*Carroll and Wheatley to return via Sandy.

Food for thought: If White is fit does he play? If so does he replace Jamar or PJ?

If Bell is dropped for his skills, how does Bruce go? Why drop a 22 year old for a 31 year old? Jamar out before Bell i think, need White in

White in for Jamar.

Jamar still jumps ten minutes too early in the ruck, is afraid to kick the ball and was fumbling the ball far too often.

Yesterday was a better game by his standards, but still not good enough IMO.

I pretty much agree with all of those outs, Bell had a shocker yesterday I thought.

I agree Bruce's disposal can hurt us at times but his ability to win the contested ball is to important.

Replaces Jamar, who has shown great endeavour but White offers us more.

It looked to me that when the Dorks zoned off they often left Jamar free as a target, hoping that we would kick to him and therefore slow down our speed of attack.

with ben holland being a possible out, we need a tall target up forward... perhaps paul johnson can play this role and mean that white comes in for clogs!!

cannot see bell being dropped - thought he played a very disciplined and strong game yesterday.

morton might be one to go for sylvia. cale has shown us that he is going to be a very very good player for this footy club. yesterday his composure at times was well beyond his years!!

frawley will continue to get big jobs - he was pretty good again and has run and dash out of defence!!

play the youth - have shown that they are not out of theie depth!!

he is too loose when he drops the ball, it could be remedied easily, the ball floats from his hands to the boot. He needs to learn to drop the ball harder or faster to his foot.

Anyone know the status of Whelan and Wheatley?

Whelan has been playing at Sandy, Wheatley still hamstrung

Where is Newton!?!?!?!?!

Surely now is his time. No Neitz. Most likely no Robbo. This guys has a golden opportunity. I hope he takes it.

www.injuryupdate.com.au lists him with a Knee injury and was likely to return last week.

If he is fit, bite the bullet put him in the seniors.

I hear what your saying, that we need a young up and coming key forward. He might just come back this week. But the reason that he has not been playing is basically he has either been injured or has played poorly. Does he need to earn his place first? thats the question.

I didn't see what other saw in Jamar yesterday. I still think he's riding on his performance against Freo. Btw, do we cop a fine for bringing in a player who wasn't an emergency? I know we did it vs Bulldogs with Bode...

I like the ins and outs here. Dunno the extent of Robbo's injury, but if he's forced out, Yze gets his spot for sure. I don't think Sylvia will be fit though.

That's spot on IMO.

Wouldn't mind Dunn instead of Sylvia, but that's just a small change.

Jamar is good in the ruck and he did get EIGHT disposals yesterday, but too many fumbles at this level are costly. I feel for him because he works hard in the ruck and even gets a few clearances himself, but he has to start believing that he can play the game at this level, or he will never establish himself.

Mind you he is getting better, which is encouraging.

Wheatley, if fit, is also an automatic selection.

Agreed, if Wheatley is fit then Frawley makes way.

One of Sylvia/Yze/Dunn must be recalled to cover for Robbo at FF, he was sorely missed late in the game. Prefer either Sylvia or Yze as Dunn seems to be being groomed as a midfielder. Would be happy seeing Yze line up at FF but nowhere else.

I agree, he would have been shattered to not be part of yesterday's team. Hopefully he comes back. I've got faith in him.

Once again I raise the question to those advocating Yze's return, who will he replace up forward? Even if Robbo doesn't pull up this week, Yze and Robbo are completely different players and I would suggest we need to possibly look at playing Green at FF as a marking target.

Yze is in direct competition with Aussie as far as I'm concerned. I know who I rather have playing.

Green has been great across half back recently, while I like the idea of him coming out of the goal square I would be reluctant to change his focus while he is playing some of the best footy of his career.

Just because Yze and Robbo are different player types doesn't mean they can't line up in the same position and be effective.

Its like saying Hawthorn couldn't play Mark Williams at FF if Buddy got injured. Ablett and Lockett were completely different player types too but both were sensational full forwards.

We won't have a better chance to get Yze a game in his last season than if Robbo is injured. He is playing well, get him. in.

Tough to call ins and outs on Monday without know the likliehood of players fitness later in the week however based on the assumption that Holland and Robbo are injured and White is fit.

Get Morton out, and into the GYM, my god that boy is WAY too skinny, definately needs more bulk.

Give the boy time. He won't stop completely growing until he's at least 20 or 21.

I agree that Morton needs to go out for a while but not because he is too skinny (which he is) but because a few weeks at Sandy will allow him to have more impact and develop his talents and confidence further. When he comes back, he should be a far better player.

I just fail to see what Sandy can do for him at this point. Morton is far above that level of football. He seems neither tired or jaded. How can an 18yo kid not be excited to play senior AFL every week? The Adelaide game prooved this. For the first time he played with a bit of swagger, a bit of cockiness. A goal off one step from 55 metres out and that pass to Bruce were indicative of this. I want him to play 350 games for the club.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
