Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Inside Football: Watts & pick 2 for David Swallow - prelim discussions

According to an article on the SEN app (should be on the website somewhere)

Inside Football reports we are discussing a potential trade with GCS as Swallow wants to be near his brother.

Watts plus pick 2 sounds like too much for mine.

I get the feeling Watts would welcome the lesser spotlight, but we'd want to get another player or pick in that trade.

In the same breath they have us offering pick 2 to Adelaide, preferring Brad Crouch in return, failing that Rory Sloane.

The crows seem reticent to let to of either player, understandably.

I imagine the club would be on the front foot in regards to trades, especially keen to come to an agreement prior to any potential announcement of priority picks.

Otherwise the other clubs would be pushing for the inclusion of the priority pick in some way.

Also the pick would have more value without the knowledge it was going to be bumped down 1 spot.

way overs from our end watts and pick 2 for swallow and pick5 maybe

and then pick 5 for sloane? that would really harden up our midfield for next year.. + rumours we are offering taylor adams a lucrative long term deal to come home.. jamar + pick 13 could get that done..?

I'd do pick 2 for Swalllow, but I wouldn't add Watts too. I'm not sure I'd do Sloane for pick 2. I feel like Swallow has more upside than Sloane. Besides, Sloane would probably say no after the way we allegedly treated him pre draft.

Swallow will surely head to north if he wants to be close to his brother .

Melbourne only get the crumbs during trade period. We are still the AFL basket case

They probably couldn't offer enough. Both parties have to agree remember. If Watts wanted out and Swallow wanted to come here then that's a pretty fair trade like for like. He's not getting much of a run in their midfield.

At first I questioned how this rumour could be true given that the Gold Coast surely have enough key position prospects with players like Charlie Dixon and Tom Lynch, but upon review they don't seem to have a clear 3rd tall forward, which is the role Watts could undoubtedly play for them.

Though I don't want to see us lose Watts, if we were able to get a young promising midfielder like Swallow (which many draft followers predicted would become better than his brother), then I might be on board with it, particularly given the insertion of Hogan into the forward line next season.

However, I still see a lot of further development from Watts, and there were one things he did twice against the GC that I've been wanting to see him do for a long time......to take those running shots on goal from outside 50. I've wanted him to be more selfish with some of those things for some time, and to see him do it last Saturday was a beautiful thing.

He looks a lot more confident during games, and more resilient than he has in the past and looks ready to take that next step. A tough call, and one I'm not certain about at the moment, but can understand the reasoning, and if we were to get Swallow, that would be a good value trade. Don't think we should add in the no.2 pick though.

If we gave up Watts and pick 2 for Swallow we would be pretty much just be giving them pick 2 for free. Watts hasn't set the world on fire but neither has Swallow. Watts is a key position player and Swallow has spent most of the year playing half back. NO THANKS!

Anyone think the new coach might have something to say about this...sorry forgot we don't have one yet.

These guys are making stuff up at the moment. Midfielder wants to move, Melbourne needs a midfielder, Watts wants to move = must be true.

Pick 2 is overs and anyway we don't know what picks we will have yet.

I'm inclined to agree - no move would be made without input from the new coach, whomever it may be.

If talks have occurred, I imagine it is just the club seeing what sort of offers are available to them at this stage, as they'll probably be working on restricted time when the coach is installed.

If the club could trade in two quality midfielders, like Sloane and Swallow for Pick 2 (Pick 3 with a PP) and Watts + the exchange of later picks or additional mid-range players I certainly wouldn't be complaining.

It would also make me feel at ease with the selection of Boyd if the club is to obtain a priorty pick (PP).

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
