Roflcoptering as we speak. We'd have to get pick 24 back in that deal, otherwise it'd be the worst trade in MFC history.6 points

Meanwhile, it's been reported that former head recruiter Barry Prendergast doesn't rate Melbourne's draft decisions thus far in the 2012 draft and trade period.6 points

Don't kid yourself because you review stats and watch lots of video clips you are any kind of guru on drafting. I have watched this kid and he is an absolute gun, size speed, mongrel, attacks contests hard, 1%ers that assist teamates and creates opportunity and goals for others. He is the best young forward I have seen in WA since Buddy and that includes Mitch Clark, Darling and Polak who was a gun as a kid but liked to indulge a bit. I saw Hogans last game when he kicked the 4 goals and had 20 odd disposals and was with some WA recruiters who knew they were witnessing something special. It was said there and then this kid is gone mini draft certainty. I know for certain Bulldogs were into him after that prelim loss when his season was over I don't care whether we take Toumpas, Wines or O'Rourke, Viney and Hogan brings to the club what I love most in players so this week couldn't get any better Welcome aboard Hoges!6 points

Fitzpatrick is an odd one. Before his diabetes was diagnosed he was terrible. Watching him play was like a watching a stick insect drown. Lots of thrashing limbs for little result and the sad realisation that the poor creature shoudln't be there in the first place. Since then I've seen a couple of Casey games on tv and he looks like a player. Very quick for his size, very agile and can hold a mark. His kicking action is uglier than a Phil Scully nude calendar but I think we could see Fitzy play a lot more AFL games this year.6 points

I thought Meredith was an umpire. At least the umpire would get to more contests than Cale.5 points

Good hope it's correct, I don't want any player out there that doesn't want to play for us. I can understand that payers are apprehensive about our immediate future but to come out and say they don't want to come to Melbourne is insulting and they can [censored] off. There will be a time when we are successful and I hope the club remembers all the knobs that dissed us.5 points

Mark Neeld, by playing Moloney or singing his praises, would have sent the wrong message to the rest of the list and would not have re-inforced team standards or the buy-in philosophy. He was dropped and brought back several times during the season, giving him every opportunity as a senior member of the team to try to embrace the new way. The fact that he was unable or unwilling to do so, and as a result by mutually agreeing to part ways says more about him negatively than it does about the club. It only makes the club stronger. And if the lukewarm response to recruit him is an indication of how far he has fallen, other clubs will not want to take on a player who just wants to play his way and spits the dummy if he can't. If the by-product of this, is that we don't get adequately compensated at the draft or trade table, then I am convinced that we will be more than compensated by the renewed attitude and buy-in from those who are left, knowing that Mark Neeld plays no favourites and was happy to cast adrift a fallen star who only 12 months earlier polled 19 Brownlow votes and won the club's B & F. Our club culture is changing and for me that this a bigger win than any mid to late draft pick can bring.5 points

Dear Brent Moloney's Manager, Brent has diminished his own value by not knuckling down and showing what value he could be to a prospective new employer. As it is, all he can say now is, "I'm tough, hard at it, can run all day, and am not prepared to do everything asked of me." signed, Everyone else in the MFC community5 points

At the risk of being politically incorrect, should we be canvassing the Harlem Globetrotters? (sorry, just couldn't let that go past).5 points

You'd carry on if we got them, because you wouldn't like what we paid, and you'd carry on if we miss them, as it's a sign of how useless we are. You win either way. I won't lose a nano second of sleep over either.4 points

cfe, it would have hurt the Club more to keep saying Moloney was on the right track and that he was required, when obviously internally he was not rated by the coaching staff at all, and was seen to have chucked a hissy fit having been relieved of a position in the leadership group. It was better for the club as a whole to make an example of Beamer, and show that the club was incredibly serious about the need for all players to be on board with the direction the club was heading. Yes, it's not a good look for a club's reigning B&F to be searching for a trade mid-year, however it was obvious to all that he was butting heads with the now incumbent football department. To allow this to continue would only have undermined the message that the FD are trying to sell, and if this lessens the pick value we get for Brent, then so be it. The intangible value that this move shows further strengthens the vision of the Club, showing that regardless of standing, if you refuse to meet minimum standards or follow the instructions of the coaching panel, you WILL NOT get a game with Melbourne. As far as I'm concerned, this only paints the MFC in a better light, as they are trying to instil a professional environment, where it was arguable that one didn't exist before, and one disgruntled player is not above what the club is trying to achieve. Don't let the door hit you on the way out, Beamer.4 points

I think you are a very confused person when it comes to FA. 1. Comp has to do with age, salary, and length of contract. 2. Dawes is not a FA, he isn't even OOC. Neither is Martin. 3. Chaplin is/was a required player at Port, they didn't want to see him go but couldn't match the offer sheet for a wantaway player. We are losing a player that had been dropped a couple of times. Completely different circumstances. 4. I really don't think you could accuse the FD, after the past couple of days, of being shortsighted...4 points

And Stewart Loewe was a lousy mark, Brett kirk needs to get in touch with his spiritual side and Peter Slipper is a fit and proper person to hold the role of Speaker of the House of Reps This is fun4 points

If Neeld wanted Dawes we would have Dawes. If Neeld wants Pederson we will have him. As he showed with Mitch last year if he wants a player he will go out and get him. If we don't end up with one of these guys I'd say its because they are not worth the asking price and he's not prepared to pay over. Maybe it's not the presumed "they don't wanna play for Melbourne", maybe Neeld has deemed they're not for us?3 points

Take your coach flogging agenda elsewhere please... this topic concerns Dawes (who has not yet been taken by any club and has nowhere stated he would not talk to the MFC) and is not about the coach. It's blokes like yourself that spring up suddenly on this site with the sole intent of Neeld bashing, who worry me.3 points

2001 super draft first round - 19 players total: 4 stars (Hodge, Ball, Judd, Bartel) 7 okay-to-good players (Polak, Hale, Reilly, Dal Santo, Ladson, Kelly, Gram) [And I've been generous in some of these cases] 8 duds (X.Clarke, Sampi, Molan, S.Power, Cole, A.Watson, Brooks, S.Harvey) Pro-rate that against GWS's 25 first rounders and you get 5 stars, 9 ok players and 11 duds. Also a club with too many star players on its list is going to end up under a massive salary cap squeeze; though we've seen clubs like Brisbane Lions and Geelong manage this in the past. Sure 5 stars is scary on that scale, but that's the very very worst case. With the numbers of absolute lemons that have been picked in the first round even in strong drafts, I don't think the GWS list will be as terrifying as some seem to think.3 points

I'd say Perth is the answer....altho they would have to be at the gate by at least 8;20. Maybe it was Brisbane?????3 points

Question 1 : Does your father harbour ambitions to be an AFL recruiter?3 points

The club did not publicly declare that the game had passed Moloney by. If so, provide evidence by way of quote from someone within the club, because I have not read, nor heard anything of the sort.3 points

Trapper was a great kick. He occasionally (often) tried to be too cute and thread a needle, which was the only time he turned it over by foot. This may be what the poster is remembering, but those mistakes were decision making errors.3 points

I don't see why we can't have three big forwards in the one team, especially as it is unlikely all three will be fit at the same time.3 points

Were you around to see him? Judging by that comment; obviously not. FYI TJ's kicking was/is in the elite category, he could land a footie on a postage stamp from 50 metres- lace out and on it's end.3 points

Guys relax. We have been eyeing him off for a while. GWS didn't raise Dom with us. We raised it to them. Also go home factor does not exist here. He is educated and has good intellect. Someone mentioned his B&F. He had injuries and didn't play anywhere near a full season. His coach acted him as something he hadn't seen before. Massive compliments were given and we were advised that he could be anything. I also read above that he should have gone at #33. Hahahahaaaa under what assumption? The kid has been compared to by his coach as another Rioli but goes missing a little sometimes. Awareness, pressure, tackling and goal sense is amazing. He does not miss. Also the reason why Tom Mc and Rory mentioned to recruiters about him was the whole region knew of a young kid coming through that looked unbelievable. Take this with a grain of salt if you wish, but remember this post. The deal for Hogan could have been done for just pick 3, but considering our 13 would essentially be 14 because of the Goddard deal we saw it as a better option of getting it done and having pick 20 as well as Dom. Other recruiters had a sniff of him.3 points

why don't we keep the expectations Off the Kids, & let them slowly Earn they're stripes. Hows about we put Numbers like Trengoves, or Frawleys, Grimes etc. let the kids grow Quietly.... don't want to do to them what we did to Watts & others... let them learn how to cook first.3 points

Apparently in WA they start and finish school a year earlier than the rest of the country, meaning Hogan is in year 12 this year. He'll be in Melbourne, as a full time footballer next year just like everyone else on the list. The only thing out of the ordinary is that he'll be ineligible to be picked in the senior side. I stand to be corrected...?2 points

Been reading Demonland for a few years now, but this is my first post (because I have never been so hopefull that we are heading in the right direction), and it amazes me the people who post on here - are they Demon supporters or just plain stupid. Getting Viney, Hogan and Barry, still having pick 4 + 20 - (to maybe use on Dawes) and people think somehow thats not good enough and we have been dudded! Do these people know anything about football! From some of the posts I think some supporters want us to be at the bottom every year to get draft picks, well here's hoping next year we don't have a pick in the top ten!!2 points
