This is a forum discussing the MFC, if people want to discuss the past then how does it harm you in any way at all? As you have seen people are still highly emotional about it, they need to vent their anger ans hatred about feeling betrayed (Hitler comparison's aside). You clearly don't want to hear about it so don't open the thread. Simple solution, everyone's happy.4 points

Rather we have a swing at Boak, a more proven commodity.4 points

Stretch won the B&F in the year we broke our 23 years finals drought and played over 150 games, yet the most vivid recollection you want to share about this former player on a thread dedicated to potentially drafting his Son is that one incident ? Sorry. [censored] poster.4 points

Ten pints of WHAT? There are various bodily fluids that could come out of an extremely drunk seven-foot tall descendent of Frankenstein. By the way, if someone peed, puked or even threw 10 beers on me, I'd seriously consider murdering them and/or getting as far away from that person as possible. If someone payed me six million dollars to do it, all the better. What I would not do is pretend I was making my mind up about it.3 points

Mercado at his best. The technicolour Gawn story I heard was that the dead eyed teetotaller was asleep in bed and big Max came into the room 3 sheets, lost his bearings and unleashed 10 pints on him. What happened after that is the stuff of legend, fables and fantasy, but I'd love to know.3 points

i was wondering the same thing.....If Gawn did go the big Yawn over scully we should be forever in his debt.3 points

I liked Supermercado's Demonblog idea (3rd last paragraph) of the "$cully Filth" sign on the bed-sheet on the top level of the Ponsford - apparently has a historical call-back as well as when Peter Moore came to the Demons the Pies fans rolled out a "Moore Filth" sign. I like that sort of continuity in the game.3 points

The Suns are the one team that I virtually haven't seen this year. I've watched heaps of GWS, but not the Suns. I know Caddy had a reputation for being a tough on-baller and was a top 10 draft pick, but is he more of the same ? We're desperate for legspeed into our midfield. Is Caddy quick, or does he just have average pace ? Viney's pace is ok, but he's not quick and Trengove, Moloney, Jones, Howe, etc also don't have blistering speed. If Caddy isn't quick I'm not sure he adds much value.3 points

Too much for a banner, but this is for those who now dismiss it all with "get over it" and "move on":- Tom, had you not been our number one pick, had you not lied to Jim and your supporters, had you given us more than just one year, had your dad not got a job at GWS, had you not gone "up for just a look" we may well have moved on. You made your bed with your dad, have fun laying in it. Come this Sunday, be wary of the "footsteps"3 points

No they are not hatchman. They was a sound case for both sides of the merge at the time. A lot of very loyal dees fans voted to make sure their club in any fashion survived. It is now history But pillorying people from back then achieves nothing. look to the future and embrace all dees fans who buy a membership in 2012 and beyond.3 points

Bugger I agree, a sad thing for Barty & for Us IMO. He is one honest toiler who has a great attitude not unlike Junior. He has great leadership traits. setting fine examples. No the most skilled but a footballer.2 points

So how exactly do we judge Robbie Flower's career then? Typically off the mark.2 points

Not good. Thats its degenerating faster this season doesn't bode well at all. Good luck Barty. Hopefully a good recovery.2 points

He's had a wonderful first 11 games of 2012 but I'd be very circumspect about offering Dayne Beams a long-term, big money deal. Can't put my finger on it but something about the guy makes me very wary. Sidebottom I'd sign in a heartbeat.2 points

Is it me or why the hell is anyone the least bit concerned about seeming PC about any of this. Get some passion.. Give them Hell. Make not only GWS but any of its supporters know every minute they at our home...their Hell. They are welcome to the G...but on our terms.....and condition number one is there WILL be pain !!2 points

What are we doing? Every year we have this thread and every year we have the same argument, and every year we don't get anywhere. You can sit and stew and rail at the dead if you want to, you can argue unverifiable truths like I was about to do, and you can have your determination to never get to that point again. But let's let the hate go? I have a family member who is still not forgiven by some for a role played. That is pathetic and toxic. Just let it go and realise that we are all Demons and the past is as useful now as it is unchangeable. We are all Demons.2 points

Isn't it nice that we don't have to play Geelong, Collingwood, Essendon, Carlton, Hawks, Sydney and West Coast again?2 points

I don't like the idea of throwing fake money. And I don't think the money is what has made us angry about the whole farce. Tom Scully was two-faced, lied the whole season and gave us absolutely nothing in return. He's a bag of s..t basically. But we're trying to draw midfielders away with cash ourselves, nothing wrong with it if they're open and honest about it. You could argue that Mitch Clark joined us for the money, even though I don't think that's all there is to it. Besides I've got so much man-love for the guy that he can join us for whatever reason he likes. Still, I think it puts him in a difficult spot and it shows that we're focusing on the wrong aspect of how Scully f..ked us anyway. Would much prefer to see LIAR banners in the stands then guys throwing wads of money about. The image is amusing in my head though.2 points

I have sat through 18 months of monotonous cr@p on the Scully situation and for the first time here are my thoughts on the whole saga: (Note: I would encourage certain other posters to be similarly economical in their postings!) Scully “Lying” This really only occurred at the press conference (that Melbourne forced him to do) and also when asked directly by Jim Stynes HOWEVER, under the current AFL system, much in contrast to the NRL, even if he had made up his mind by then, he couldn’t come clean, because of the very real risk he wouldn’t play again all season (NB: comments by Primus and Roos about what they would do in similar situations. Primus has hinted Boak will not play again if he decides to leave Port). This just shows the immaturity of the AFL system (compared to NRL) in dealing with a player who makes the decision to move on. Both parties (player and club) should have the maturity to continue their employment relationship until the end of the player’s contract. Given this I feel Scully had little choice but to conceal his intentions when put on the spot. Scully’s Decision The man was offered $6m for Christ’s sake, and given his rumoured issues with Melbourne’s culture etc. the decision was a no-brainer. I certainly hold no grudges against him for the decision. Is Melbourne better Off? I believe YES. We lost: Scully (a #1 draft pick); and Freed up approx $600k of salary cap space (I think that’s what we offered him). We gained: Approx picks 4 and 13. Time will tell if we win out of this, however for a number one pick with a dodgy knee I tend to consider it is reasonable. (I acknowledge that no one would ever trade away pick 1 in a draft in exchange for pick 4 and 13, however Scully’s value had depreciated considerably over his first two years to be substantially less than that of a number one pick). We used the salary cap space to pay Mitch Clark. IMO this is a much better use of this cap space and is the reason we win out of the situation. Should Scully be Booed Sure, why not? It’s AFL tradition to boo a player who leaves your club. I don’t think it’s at all offensive. If anything it shows respect for Scully’s ability and the fact that he meant something to Melbourne fans. As a comparison I seriously doubt WB fans will be booing Sam Reid given he was a virtual nobody at their club. Throw Monopoly money at him if you want, however anything like this only legitimises Scully as a “big name” worthy of such petty displays. IMO the best thing to do is nothing at all, as this shows he’s not even worthy of our contempt. On the contrary I strongly encourage all Melbourne fans to show the utmost respect for Junior McDonald and cheer him at every opportunity. /EndRant2 points

Fortunate enough to be there, HT. Wow!!! BC in the 2011 Lightning was awesome, but today was eye-popping. The "disadvantage" BC has in this comparison with other stars is her relative fragility. UK commentators are saying that a smart bet is BC at > 5 lengths, but to me that doesn't reflect an understanding of the management of the horse. To Moody's credit, he does what has to be done, and doesn't push her to the limit. One of the leading jumps trainers said he couldn't wait to see her, as he couldn't believe that a sprinting mare could come in from the paddock at more than 600 kgs, way more than his sturdy top jumpers.1 point

Who cares if we throw money? It will be hilarious and original instead of the classic 'boo'. Its something unexpected and different, the people on here saying we should just take the high road and not do anything about it in my opinion have their head in the sand. I feel by not doing anything it sends a message that its ok for someone to just get up and walk out after lying and dragging our club through the mud. Show we are upset and angry about the way he handled it but do it in a tasteful way.1 point

From the Hun this morning: "Jones said Melbourne supporters would make Scully a target. "For sure and I expect them to," he said. .............................................................................. Jones said the approach to former Dees captain James McDonald would be different. "He's highly respected," he said." says it all really.. Junior is respected...unlike Scummy who is fair game.1 point

Reckon we are better off going for players who are a touch older and more established (like 23-25 year old types, Beams etc)1 point

Caddy, 19, has said he is happy to ''leave all the contract stuff'' to the end of the season http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/ray-of-hope-for-sun-caddy-20120618-20kad.html#ixzz1yEagNZWd1 point

I agree. While I'm singing Cameron's praises I'm also in no doubt that we have no chance in hell of procuring him. I just like talking about him because he's going to be a star. I haven't seen a star at Melbourne for 25 years and they get one in their inaugural. Talk about being kissed on the dick. And Patton too. FMD.1 point

Caddy went at pick 7 and has hardly set the world on fire. Wouldn't be offering anything higher than what he went for but if he was keen to home I'm sure a suitable pick and perhaps player could be organized.1 point

It makes me sick when people say that "booing" is against the spirit of the game. Football is competitive, bordering elitist, and people need to accept that. "Booing" is what you do in an attempt to jeer and mock the opposition. It goes hand-in-hand with "barracking", and should be a compulsory act from every Melbourne fan there on the day.1 point

Steven Stretch was a natural right footer but you'd have hardly known as he was near ambidextrous on his left. It's rubbish that he didn't go near a pack his whole career. This guy really doesn't deserve to be spoken of in the same breath as Aaron Davey or Cale Morton. He was in another class.1 point

I don't know about that. I think sometimes he falls into the 'small indigenous player, therefore small forward' stereotype. I see him more as a midfielder. He's hard at it and can run. Lawrence looks like he can play, but doesn't seem to get involved much. He could get lucky given our need in this area. If he kicks a bag soon he may hold on. Good build and has potential.1 point

Tell me about it...thought he'd flourish in Neeld's environment but we'll never know. Always had a soft spot for him after he dribbled through that goal against the Filth right in front of their cheersquad and pressed his index finger to his mouth. Copped an absolute barrage. Tough kid and I desperately hope he makes it back.1 point
