  2. Can't help thinking that GWS is looking like the AFL's worst-managed club. And they aren't even an AFL club yet. Head of recruiting stood down for bizarre abusive behaviour against former colleagues, just as the peak of trade and draft period comes in. CEO sacked without an immediate successor. Either he's a total crank or the board is a bunch of total cranks, or both. Two senior coaches who are both a bit weird, and no clear relationship in the coaches box. Overpaying junior non-stars, completely failing to recruit anyone capable of true on-field leadership. Actively antagonising the 'old' AFL community for media attention in ways that mean nothing and impress nobody in the Western Sydney community. Weak sponsor group, weak fanbase, weak community involvement, pathetic 2nds competition.

  3. looks like the AFL are trying to pull them into line, they are spending money willy nilly that the AFL invested i mean sheedys son as a recruiter, and scullys old man now aswell if they were highly rated recruiters then fair enough but i have never heard of them this has got sheedy and grubby allens dirty prints all over it just seems like there trying to milk the AFL to line there own pockets i doubt they really care if GWS succeeds or not as long as they become rich in the process. GWS is destined to fail why the AFL put sheedy and grubby in charge is mind boggling

  4. See Brad Green's latest Tweet? "BradGreen18 GWS and Scull bring a whole new dimension to the Father-Son rule!!!"

  7. I keep reading how well we have done with two 1st round picks for our GWS recruit, but like WYL I don't buy it. We wouldn't swap our pick 2 JT to Port for 8&9 and here we are getting about 13 & 16 for number 1 pick in the country. Would Tigers swap Martin for picks 13 & 16, would Hawks swap Hodge for 13 & 16. The compensation is nothing like what was lost. The only thing I hope is that we have dodged a bullet if the injuries are as bad as I have heard. I wish people would stop saying we were fairly compensated because we weren't. We were just compensated according to AFL guidelines not fairly or adequately.

  8. Asking Mark Neeld questions?! That would be pretty impressive if you get that chance! I think the main question would be.... "Mr Neeld, how do you intend to change Melbourne's Culture and how it continually seems to accept mediocrity? Will you promise to do whatever it possibly takes in your power to make our Club ruthless in its determination to win that 13th Premiership?" Yes that's more than one question...but I thought it was a good start.

  9. What is your plan for moving the ball past the half-back line? Which current 'fringe' players do you think can make the biggest improvement with a change in preparation and role? And most of all a whole lot of questions about the new coaching panel, their strengths, weaknesses, and the kinds of relationships between line coach and line-development coach that are anticipated.

  11. I like the thought but i believe the AFL's response to you will be "tell WYL he's dreamin' .. "

  12. The fact that his dad has to be included under the salary cap indicates that it was an inducement for the Merc's signing This indicates that there was an approach before what was stated this deal was hatched during the china trip or even before. Guarantee it. We have won in this one we have cut loose a guy and family with absolutely no integrity. Hopefully the ex CEO is disgruntled and spills the beans on this farce. MFC next time make a stand and show that we will not act like wet nurses.

  13. Maybe Holmes' salary was also included under the salary cap and GWS needed to make cuts to fit Lucky Phil in

  14. The club were not hoodwinked for a minute. I posted this March 3: Melbourne merely played along with the charade to keep the water smooth - on the surface, anyway.

  15. Because we had to fill the gaping hole in our forward line at some point and to have Mitch Clark in that position is a massive jigsaw piece. And while he may be no world beater, the other options available that you suggest - Jamar and Martin would involve a 28 year old who is a worse forward than Clark and a fantastic utility but does not look like a natural forward at the best of times. You are right to say that we won't know the impact of this for years but, assuming we get some elite midfield talent with those compo picks, we will be ahead of where we were. And we are definitely better prepared for 2012 - which is what I was trying to imply, but I also endorse the idea in this post that long-term, we will be better off.

  16. Like this kid. Hope he keeps his number too. No frills, runs and runs. Spreads well and can be accountable. Coach's dream player - will be one who does his job quietly under the radar (almost stealth like).

  17. I find Tapscott one of the harder players on our list to project. He has a strong body, but he really hasn't done a lot of preseason running. The question is about how good a runner he can become. Chapman became a really good runner after a slow start. If Tappy has it in him then he could become someone who plays bursts in the midfield. If he doesn't then he'll be a fringe player or a role player. I'd love to see him do a proper preseason. We'll have a better idea after he gets some proper running into him..

  19. Gun, love the way he plays. If his knee holds up next season he should come close to playing all 22 games.

  20. I hear that despite the best efforts of the AFL that Mr $cully in fact does not fit under the cap!

  21. Rumour doing the rounds in Rooty that GWS bought the local Jenny Craig franchise for Mr. and Mrs. $cully. Unconfirmed ATM but if true, would that come under the cap?

  22. Just like how we apparently employed Clark's girlfriend? Get over it. It'd be hypocrisy for us to be angry at him. Scully left for money, Clark joined us for money. $$$ are a big part of professional sports, people need to accept it and get over it.

  23. Garland is just not quite tall enough or hasn't the bulk(weight) to play a key positional role.As I have stated many times,Garland would be a sensational winger, able to defend & attack.

  24. I'm with BB. Pick the talent, work out how to deal with the owner of the talent later. Unless they are a nutcase... Yes, I am looking at you Lawrence Angwin... Because you stole things.

  25. Who killed Bambi? Seems to lack the tricks to play in the forward line, not strong overhead and lacks speed and agility to play a crumbing role - I can't see a future for him there even as a defensive forward. He is a good kick and I see him in the backline if he can make the cut. He's over-rated because we've had a lack of hard big bodied draftees. He hasn't had a pre-season yet so it will be interesting to see what he can do on the back of proper preparation. Will be ecstatic to be proven wrong and for the love here to be justified.

  26. Looked like he couldn't get off the ground at the end of the year. Hoping his body allows him to return to his best in 2012. His injury early in the year was a blessing in disguise as it allowed both Martin and Gawn to thrive under the added responsibility, but ultimately you'd still prefer to have your best ruckman on the park.

  27. I agree but our midfield is the weakest point on the field, but i dont think we can do anything about it this season

  28. I think you need to delve beyond the simple drug abuse and look at the cause for it. The kid was clinically depressed and wasn't getting much help from the club on it, because they didn't even know. I think he's now in a much better position for a club to give him a support network and the understanding to help him succeed. There's no doubting he is talented, and for a rookie pick he's worth the punt.

  29. I reckon you have captured the thoughts of many here, Bringback. With Tassie screaming out for a team, and with all the $ thrown in, and with the Scully deal, and two of the greatest knobs ever in Sheedy and Gubby - GWS have instantly become hated by a lot of AFl supporters, and not just Victorian supporters. The AFL are making a huge mistake by playing Sydney v GWS. A huge thrashing is on the cards. If they want GWS to have a stand alone game to start the season, why not ake it GWS v Goldcoast? Personally, I like the Carlton v Tiges game to start the season. Tiges supporters having their hopes dashed in round one sounds about right doesn't it? .

  30. Not for me. I want to see them done by 50 goals. I want Sheedy and Allen to be laughed out of the game.

  31. Question whether McCaffer would've looked so good in an average team last year. Not every player at Collingwood is better than our equivalent options - some of our forwards would've looked like superstars at the Pies over the last couple of years.

  32. No- if anyone deserves to be there who isn't it's Jordie Mckenzie.
