Just noted on demonology that there will be conference tomorrow at 10am...Re Neita. ... maybe retirement due to injuries.

Now I feel sad for the champ.

Posted

Yeah saw it too!

My time just stopped, if indeed is true, it is the right decision but i am going to be very sad.

I just watched a replay of the dees vs kangas and thought it has to be done, his time is up.

Massive...stunned...sad but not surprised if indeed true.

Stunned is exactly how I'm feeling at the moment. We all knew that it was going to happen.. but..still.

Gonna miss the big fella. Its as sad as when the OX did his lap of honour. Tears will be flowing.

If so the "rubber chest" callers will surely wish their posts dont rise up the Board.

If so, a very very sad way to end a valiant career. He has deserved better from teammates.

I wonder why he continued. Does it have anything to do with our 150th year? This is total speculation but do you think our great chairman (with his PR and marketing expertise) may have had something to do with Neitz staying on?

He was well and truly stuffed last year. But played on. I admire David Neitz and should go down as a great at our club. I just wish this decision was made last year. He deserves so much better.

My prediction is he'll play one last game, Daniher style, this week against Carlton. Ill most definitely be there. The big fella deserves a proper send off.

There is no should about it. He is a great of our club. Against Geelong he showed a bit but he looked shot on the weekend.

I could just tell he was finished. Will be sorely missed. Gave everything to the club.

Well for one..I'll wait and see what happens instead of conjecture.

Two.. theres a difference between acknowldging his efforts and value over the years as compared to the shadow that inhabits the forward line at present.

edit:

as an after thought.. He may well do something akin to that which I and others expressed..and that is the act of a truly courageous man.

Agree. And its purpose?

On SEN just now they reckoned they asked Neitz and he denied it was a retirement announcement.

From AFI-

Chris Connolley has come out and said that Neitz isn't going to retire, and that the call made by SEN was 'rubbish'.

i guess that's the end of that.

LOL haha

I can't believe you people, it's so obvious that the conference tomorrow is to let everyone know that we'll be playing Finals Footy this year.

Gee, it's not rocket science.

Posted

The speculation is based on the form of Neitz this year and last year. Why else did he continue playing? He got his 300 games last year. He/they are taking away 20 games of experience from a rookie (ie Valenti), we have Holland, we have Robbo why did we need Neitz to continue. He will not play in our next premiership and has no scope for improvement.

This forum is about opinion and speculation.

Thats very funny.

Could be just a stepping down from captaincy.

Sad that he will retire with MFC in such a state, he deserved more as a player.

Stepping down from captaincy makes the most sense.

Club may be acknowledging it's time to plan for the future, and this is the first step.

If he's stepping down as the captain tomorrow, it begs the question, who on earth is going to get the job for the rest of the year, given the likely list of candidates and their form? (ie.Bruce,Green,McLean..not to mention Miller and Yze are in our leadership group).

Posted

This is what Neitz is going to say at the press conference:

"We're hurting as well. We know the fans are hurting, we it hurts us when we lose, too. We just have to be competitive and we're not doing that atm. We're hurting too."

I stole his speech from MFC. True story.

In a surprise move on April 16 2008, the club annouced that "Captain Jack" Grimes will be taking over the captains roll from David Neitz. This move started a string of on field success which led the demons to premierships in 2010, 2011, 2012,2013. Inturn the Demons became the richest and most successful club in VFL/AFL history and ensured its survival and dominance for at least the next 150 years.

Even more surprising considering Grimes won't play a game this year

I'd think it is for his stepping down as captain - and Bruce to be given the mantle. I'd be surprised if he retired now, so early into the season.

Hopefully he does an Ian Botham after he is relieved of the captaincy.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
