Bartram - much needed desperation

Bell - aggressive but loose

Bruce - an important contribution

Carroll - some admirable aggression

Davey - thrilling but limited

Dunn - some deft possessions

Garland - little to commend

Green - just a game

C. Johnson - was barely noticed

P. Johnson - a major contributor

Jones - not as influential

McDonald - bland but effective

McLean - finally some form

Miller - continued good form

Morton - a major performance

Neitz - time to go

Rivers - a welcome return

Robertson - stymied in pocket

Sylvia - a petulant schoolgirl

Wheatley - wonderful first half

White - just plodded along

Wonaeamirri - an x factor

Can I just get in here and congratulate Clint Bartram on being the best tackler in our team and it is great to see him back.

Pretty spot on there Joeboy. Too nice to Sylvia.

Colin Sylvia makes me sad in pants.

Sylvia - a petulant schoolgirl

"Garland - little to commend"

Try NOTHING to commend. I'm so angry that he was given another chance and showed absolutely nothing, and if he plays this week.. I don't know what I'll do but it won't be good.

Doubt it's 'time to go' for Neita, but he does need to polish up on some basic skills.. Cannot believe he dropped that mark. :(

can we get off neita's back a little bit...yeah he makes mistakes but he is the captain and deservedly so, his time has passed, but we play better when neitz is in our team, even if he gets four touches, the team always has more structure when he plays

I thought big Neita was solid. Those two half-volley gathers both finished in goals. Some of the delivery to him was bad but he kept on keeping on.

C. Johnson - was barely noticed

Couple nice touches, used it well. Even spent some time in the middle which wouldn't happen under Daniher. Handy depth.

P. Johnson - a major contributor

New favourite player!

Who would of thought P Johnson is currently our best big man. You would expect Rivers to take the this spot if he stays fit, but for the time being he is our best big man. Just goes to show give players game time and they might show something. Don't play them and sit them on the bench for 20 min per quarter.

Even though the stats say Bartel had 30, I thought Dunn didnt do too bad a job on him, he does seem quite suited to a run-with role.

Garland had a whopping 7 stats today, no doubt a season high. How many more games will they give this guy? Interestingly, it was an equal team low with Rivers, the difference being Riv had 9 1%ers.

Agree, get off Neita's back. The team plays 20% better with him in the team. It is a TEAM game remember.

@0 odd of those were in the first half when dunn was not playing on him.

I think Dunn did a good job on him, like they started to sue him as a tagger last year i think he offers something to the team in that role.

Sylvia - a petulant schoolgirl

What gives? When we were playing well in the 1st qtr Sylvia was excellent and a major reason for a success. The delivery to him was appalling from qtr time on, but he presented hard all day and hit in hard in the clinches.

The general opinion of him on these boards is so clouded by his 'off field issues' that it makes it impossible to give an honest accessment. Its pathetic and is wearing thin.

White - just plodded along

White makes me want to vomit. He just goes through the motions, picking up his pay cheque on a Tuesday, playing footy on the weekend. Watching Rivers give him 2 sprays was priceless. When White went into the middle we lost drive.

I watched the game on TV, and tbh, I didn't notice him much. However...

The general opinion on this board has been - or perhaps, was - way too high. I think the general consensus these days is based more on reality, and less on the number he was selected in the draft. This is just a general observation, and not really related to comments on today's game.

For anyone who went to the game, did you see much of Garland? I barely saw him [on the TV], and tend to think he's probably first in line to be dropped.

Very happy to see these reviews - looking forward to more of this next week.

Best game Cam Bruce's has played since the early days of 2005 when he was polling brownlow votes.

Instead of getting 30 touches and spraying half of them, he got about 18 valuable/effective touches from defence and occasionaly ran forward to kick 3 goals - like the class act he can be. Was also able to take a couple of crucial marks in defence. Well done!

Bartram's tackling and pressure

I forgot that was the reason why everyone rated him.

Very happy to see these reviews - looking forward to more of this next week.

Yep. And add the return of Wheels (hopefully next week) and Bater, and a win may not be too far away.

It frustrates me when people will look for any little positive about Sylvia. Face it, the guy is not performing to a level that is expected. Not enough posessions and clearances. "Presenting" is not good enough for a player like him.

Surprised there hasnt been more talk about Daveys form. Hes been as bad as garland. Where has his defensive pressure gone?

Well after watching a very spirited performance against the cats, my daughter and i finished the weekend with a smile on our face, and with renewed faith our side. Even more importantly, we have decided on a number to put on her jumper. Thier were many players which deserved the privilage of having my little girl wear their number, which is great.

Apologies to:

Brock - hard and played well - needs to deal with a tag

PJ - I thought he was great

Aussie - exciting and fresh

Cale - Super talent who will have his fair share of numbers on kids jumpers to come.

But in the end, it was decided to go to Jarred Rivers. It was great to see him back, he just looks like he belongs, and i hope that while my daughter is growing up that the Melbourne FC is growing up and they can both be a part of a wonderful dynasty of success.

Thoughts eveyone?

Outstanding choice,

# 27 Great tradition, great present, great future

and no I am not Sean Wight before anyone asks

I agree with that.

People tend to look at youngsters and look for signs of greatness. They let a lot slide through and concentrate on the good stuff.

Sylvia has gone past that stage and he should be judged as a player who's being in the system for 5 years.

Enough with the glimpses Colin, the heat should be well and truly on.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
