watching since the 70's. No it hasnt. Never has there been less passion, worse skills and worse game plan. I saw last weeks live and thats my summation. As for today I didnt see it, but I think there is little to change my mind. Quarter time last week, and I was concerned about coach choice. I hope I am wrong but the signs are diabolical.

been watching since the early 80s and it hasnt been this ordinary of a start for a looooooong time, (2007 doesnt count) its starting to bring a comparison to fitzroys 1996 season, very ordinary.

Well apparently in 96 Round 1 Geelong kicked the first 15 goals of the match and we lost by 127, so yes, it was worse once.

and the following week we got done by 90 odd points by the pies...

we then went and won the following week against the saints.(I am not holding any hopes for round 3, 2008 ).

I'm only 18 and thus have no real experience in the matter, so, how 'bout it?

I've seen some pretty spineless displays in my 54 years, this looks like 1969 all over again. It doesn't get much worse than this, just expect more of it for the rest of the season I'm afraid.

I sat through the late 70`s n early 80`s as a teenager and although we fought for the wooden spoon nearly every year with the saints, they actually had a crack and has some semblance of hardness back then . This is as low as we have been in my 40 years but brace yourself young man, there is a lot more pain ahead of us this year and probably next year. I can deal with the pathetic skill we are showing , but until we get hard, we will be laughed at by every club for along long time to come. Just read our starting backline today. It must send shivers down the oppositions spine!

If I remmember correct, we got belted by Collingwood the next week again after this game. maybe 80 or 90 pts. But then didn't we turn it around and make the finals?

I could be wrong, just trying to remmember.

We're starting to revisit 1981, but I don't blame Bailey. The list management of Daniher and Craig Cameron has been absolutely astonishingly abysmal. We've been fleeced. Many have called for senior players being held to account, and in some instances traded, for years, all to no avail. But of course those responsible for the inept management and decisions are no longer at the club, and those that supported them are strangely quiet.

It's a bit rich to blame Bailey for the soft rabble that remain. It's not of his doing.

1980 winning one game for the year and only by 1 point at western oval thanks to one Robbie Flower. What made it worst was there was no priority pick. 8 years later played in a grand final so there may be some light. Just have to wait a bloody long time.

Right sentiment, wrong year.

I just get the feeling I'm going to be on this forum in 20 years time answering the same question that you guys are answering for me. To quote a certain former Melbourne coach with bad knees "Footy sucks sometimes, doesn't it?" But I guess it doesn't matter, I will always support the team I love. Should old acquaintance be forgot, I will keep my eye on the Red and the Blue.

You maybe thinking of 81 with that one game win at the WO.

I have lived through the late 60's and the early 70's.

Saw RDB come and go.

Loved the Northey era.

Saw Daniher do way past his use by date.

What we have here is madness.

Two questions:

Where the hell is Kevin Sheedy

Whers is Steve bloody Harris now we don't have Sheedy.

"shakes his head"

Been following for 44 years & yes its been this low Before!

* Apart for 1976 the rest of the 70's where painful.

* Have sat through Geelong's 15 Goal to Nil half mid 90's

* The Bombers comming back from a 44 point deficeit 5 mins into last 1/4 to roll us

WE are bloody low right now, clearly our slim window was 2004 - 2006 that is now slammed shut.

Play the kids, embrace the New coach, hang tough & the sun will shine once more.

Law of averages say's we are way overdue & who know's maybe this rebuild might just be the one

In the seventies there was Robbie and Later A.Johnson to watch.

In the Eighties there was Healy and Jacko and some great juniors coming through the under 19's and Ressies.

It was always worth getting to the game at 12.00 to watch the last half of the Reserves.

There was always something to hang your hat on.

Now there is no silver lining.

Our President who flies in for quite a few games, bless him, tells us to be more supportive.

He will be back in first class by now. I dont know what to make of that.

We just have to stick with it.

To those who don't want to lay any blame at the feet of Bailey, remember this - he went through the entire process which involved an evaluation of our list. He must have realised that our list is neither particularly quick or possessed of a lot of skill. Either that or he completely bullshitted! He then institutes a game plan which Hards has had a look at in another thread based loosely on the run and carry methodology which relies heavily on the aforementioned. He needed a gameplan which reflected the talent available to him. This is not that plan - it wasn't for Balme in the '90's either.

What`s John Northey doin these days . Get him back ! Turned a team of no names into a force to be reckoned with!

Most of those no-names were picked and groomed by Slug Jordon under Ron Barassi's watch.

They had come straight out of winning under 19 and then Reserve premierships.

Plus the draft kicked in and we had Stretch, Spalding and Warren Dean arrive.

Nothing against Northey but Bailey isnt walking into a team full of up and comers.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
