Bartram - needs more time

Bell - was completely dominated

Bode - not a footballer

Bruce - stuck to task

Buckley - a shining example

Carroll - surprisingly polished game

Davey - little before injury

Dunn - a major disappointment

Garland - wasted draft choice

Green - needs a Melways

Johnson - best big man

Jones - never stops giving

McDonald - didn't stop trying

McLean - little to praise

Miller - an improved game

Morton - reason for optimism

Neitz - no longer excused

Robertson -displays little desire

Sylvia - most overrated player

Weetra - little to enthuse

Wheatley - poor decision making

White - better this week

Isaac Weetra might be the worst player to ever pull on a Demons guernsey.

Pretty spot on today I think.

Morton was the only thing that made me smile today. He can KICK.... someone at Melbourne can HIT A TARGET.

Praise the friggin football gods!!!

By the way, Buckley needs to stop playing like he's got 100 games experience under his belt. It's great to take them on, but don't try and overdo it. He nearly cost us 2 goals (was 1.1 in the end) because twice he turned it over trying to take on the whole Bulldogs outfit.

I love that he has pace and belief in himself, but son, you can't run through brick walls.

I see your Isaac Weetra and raise you Colin Garland.

Nathan Jones does never stop trying but my greatest fear is that he will get sick of playing with this rabble and seek a trade to end up playing for the Saints.

Did anyone else notice that after Colin Garland stood flat footed waiting for the ball to be delivered to him only to have it chopped off by a Dogs player TWICE in 30 seconds, Nathan Jones was the only one who screamed at him "Go for the ball" and held his arms at - where were all our other so called leaders? Brock did yell out something after Jones but what about the other "older players" - you know, the LEADERS???? If they are going to accept that sort of crap without saying something, no wonder our team is so SHITE.....

im glad i havent recieved my 2008 stickers yet coz they aint going on the car!

i think the worst part about our leadership group isn't that they don't show leadership onfield, it's that they are ALL pretty shizen players who honestly wouldn't make the starting 18 or the best 12 afl sides.

we are a rabble.

pure and simple, our youngsters are no where near as good as the youngsters of other afl clubs.

Could not agree more. Courage is admired but silliness admonished.

FWIW:

Bartram - ok first up

Bell - took wrong options

Bode - has some potential

Bruce - only broke even

Buckley - thinks he's superman

Carroll - our best today

Davey - something is wrong

Dunn - good first half

Garland - needs more time

Green - had his moments

Johnson - best big man

Jones - thinks he's flower

McDonald - tried his best

McLean - hands on hips

Miller - Melbourne's 2nd best

Morton - will be good

Neitz - starting to mark

Robertson -about the individual

Sylvia - tackled the best

Weetra - unfortunately too early

Wheatley - a wasted kick

White - maybe our CHF

Buckley - a shining example

Of what?!?!?!?!

How to play football like a small boy who thinks he is shitloads better than he actually is?

How to play a game of football without once engaging your brain?

How to play a run and carry style of game without knowing how to carry?

Or my favourite..... A shining example of what happens when your list doesn't have 22 footballers good enough to play AFL!

Im not sure I went to the same game.!!! thought there was stuff all too get excited about.. ..need to calm down a bit before to omany more words !!

Without question I agree. Col Garland at least laid some tackles.

Buckley's skills need working on but hell he was the only player with Jones to show any consistent run and attack. Its a pity he got no support when he was swarmed.

Carroll's marking is massacred by his inept disposal and decision making. Its an indictment on the team that a player who so regularly turned the ball over is considered one of our best.

Morton does give real reason for optimism. If he had a half decent side to play with, he would show how comfortable he is at this level.

Bruce - money stealing dud

Agreed.

They should start new categories for him in stats sheets:

Fell Over

Didnt attack the contest

Didnt Chase

Looked Despondent/Helpless

He'd almost rack up a quadruple double in these catergories in his games so far.

2 stats today, and he was on for large chunks of the game!

It would be a disgraceful effort on the selectors part if he got another game after today.

There is no way he should be whering the red and blue yet. He could be a good player in the future but i cant see the point playing youngsters when they are not ready. (this is also directed at garland)

There are some players that you only need to see for a few minutes to know that they don't have "it".

Garland is one of them.

He and Petterd debuted on the same day.

Petterd showed skill, poise, football smarts and courage.

Garland looked unco.

I was pretty blasted for saying last week that Garland wasn't up to it.

Now people are on my side.....

Bode, Weetra and Garland must be dropped.

If we are playing kids play Maric, Martin, Meesen I don't care who just not those 3 as they are not up to it.

Posted

It's only round 3 and as crap as the team is playing can we please wait until at least round 10 before we completely give up and "play the kids".

By all means play them if they deserve to be there, but let's just hold off a couple more weeks.

Carroll was fantastic. He read the play well, positioned himself nicely and held his marks. I thought his disposal was pretty good in the first half, it dropped off in the second half in line with the rest of the team.

Gouga...did yo watch what he did with it after ?? ..thats his let down.. Its the old story its not what you have..but what you do with it !!

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
