Jack Grimes-187cm,76kg,Northern Knights- Is not quick and his skills are not outstanding but he is hard at it and reads the play very well. He is always in the game trying to block or shepherd or tackle and shows some leadership skills in the way he gets around to pump up his team mates. He doesn’t let up and gives what looks like his best all day long. He is pretty clean with his ball handling and doesn’t fumble . Has played at half back / half forward and in the middle.

Take your hand off it mate. Grimes has all the attributes of a terrific player. He's tallish, solid, excellent reader of the play. It doesn't matter how good your skills are if you can't get near it, and get near it is one thing he certainly can do. With his work ethic theres no reason why he can't improve his kicking out of sight (and anyway, he CAN kick reasonably, it's not like he's Daniel Cross. To top it all off he is a 1%er master and a real leader. We know CAC loves leadership skills so it's no real surprise to get Grimes here, with Veszpremi gone. For Grimes, think McLean with slightly poorer skills but a yard more pace. Make no mistake he WILL be a good AFL player.

Rance was a bit overhyped to be honest. He's (only) 192cm and a bit lax on the defensive side. People describe him as the modern fullback because of his attacking ability, but his defending leaves a litttttttle bit to be desired. As a defender, he's solid if unspectacular.

If anybody comes in and says 'OMG, we traded TJ for GRIMES???' they will be [censored]-slapped.

Interesting we didn't take any KPP (except the smokey McNamara). Bailey must have faith in what most of us would have to say is a fairly average and quite old crop of talls at our club.

Wonder what the thinking is for the succession plan. I'm guessing that he sees Bate as our CHF of the future, Newton as FF and Frawley as our FB. We're still well short in other areas (notably CHB)

All clubs with selections from No.7-14 will seriously consider Grimes, but like Alex Rance he is one of the most difficult to place. If he slides through to Hawthorn – and this could genuinely happen – he will be snapped up at No.12. Although Hawthorn is super keen on Cyril Rioli and Tom Collier, it is understood Grimes would be selected ahead of them. If Sydney opts for Grimes and Rance is available, expect the key defender to land here. Lachlan Henderson, if available, and Scott Selwood are also in the mix here.

Bio: A medium defender/midfielder who is an exceptional reader of the game and a very good decision maker. Captain of the Northern Knights TAC Cup team, Grimes averaged more than 28 possessions per match. Possesses excellent endurance and has recorded a beep test of 15.10 with the AIS-AFL Academy. for those idiots who are sceptical about this pick, recruiters would consider Grimes to have been a slider to still be available at 14.

Grimes has the best endurance of any player in the draft.

He is known for being the best leader in the draft.

He is known for having one of the best work ethics of any player drafted.

And has good skills, and is simply a really good player.

I'd rather us get a quality mid than a mediocre tall, and it looks like we've done that with our first and second round picks. Bit surprised that Gourdis' name went unmentioned though...
