Pre-Season Draft Pick 3

Diablo

Recommended Posts

Now that John Meesen has been acquired for pick 37, we will definitely have our pick 3 in the Pre-Season Draft available to use on another player.

Who would everyone like to see us pick up? Know of any uncontracted players who might do the PSD shuffle? Any up and coming 2nd tier leaguers (VFL, WAFL, SANFL) who may be worth a punt? Post your thoughts here.

Would we have to take Valenti in the PSD if we want him?

I think I have heard people suggest he could be rookie drafted, no? If we can get him as a rookie I would rather do that first, but seeing him in Sandy's best most weeks would probably be enough for me to see the man taken in the PSD.

Has a deal been struck with Damon White yet? The other name mentioned (whose contract status I'm unsure of) is Ben McKinley from West Coast.

Brennan?

obviously if we were in the race for judd we have the $$$$

if he is available at pik three of pre season draft.. could we somehow have a chin wag with him and get him on board?

he showed something this yr

Good shout Goose. I read somewhere that Essendon might be trying to get him in a trade or the PSD. We would be mad not to try and steal in before them and snatch him up. I think Essendon were offering $300k per season though... Would we pay that much for an erratic forward?

Essendon would be rather miffed, although they and Mal Michael did very much shaft Brisbane last year. If they tried essentially the same trick again I'm sure Brisbane at least would enjoy them getting a backhander.

A massively engorged 'NO' to Jared Brennan. If we're getting rid of TJ for off-field reasons, why would we pick up an absolute clown who has played fewer than five good career games and makes Johnstone look like Mother Teresa?

Engorged... well in that case we better forget him. I know he's a loose cannon, but surely he's young enough that if somebody gets into his head he could be turned around. I suppose you could argue that if Leigh Matthews can't, then who can. Huh.

i think our best bet is to pick up a player like Moran from tha kangas...he is a proming young ruckman and would be a steal in the psd.

also known that we are interested in him.

then we can delist jamar, and have White, Meeson, PJ and Moran as our 4 ruckman. with white close to retirement and PJ showing he is a more than capable backup ruckman, that leave us with 2 highly rated and talented developing ruckman to take over White eventually.

remember people, that if we dont pick up guyz like Meeson and Moran we're gonna have to waste plenty of draft picks trying to find White's replacement. better off finding his replacemnet thru the psd

Jamar won't be delisted. He just signed a 2 year deal.

it was speculated he was offered a contract...clearly MFC would wait to see what happens during trade week before finalizing any contract.

hasnt confirmed signed yet

my thoughts exactly, id love to get bolton from sydney in the PSD but if he did go there tigers and blues would get him first, we have pick 3 so we will get the 3rd best player available, both tigers and blues have room in their salary cap too.

Just mentioned on Channel 10 news that Carlton are trying to entice Brisbanes defender Josh Drummond into the PSD by offering him a 3 year, $1,000,000 contract

Where are they getting this money from?

ANyways, we should be able to get a pretty good player at number 3 considering everyone who is out of contract

Two names for PSD

TODD GRIMA - Get around him. Being one of his good mates i say pick the boy up. He was well in the mix for the VFL team of the year and he will add height and also enthusiasm to the team. Mark my words people he will be a star. Bails you have to go after him. Well after talking to Todd apparently we are after him but GO HARDER BAILS. What do you guys think.

The other is Jude Bolton. Come on why wouldnt we want him.

2008 - The year of the Demon. ;)

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
