this morning's rumour

A suggestion doing the rounds is that our venerable leader Paul Gardiner is to voluntarily offer his resignation later this week .

That isn't true.

Paul Gardiner is a great Chief Executive Officer at Melbourne & will be for many years.

If your going to throw round rumors - Make sure you can back then up.

What's your source anyway..?

I'm not denying he's a great CEO , I'm just stating the RUMOUR doing the rounds that his departure may be imminent!

Paul Gardner is Chairman of the Board. Steve Harris is the Chief Executive Officer.

Are you sure it isn't Steve Harris that is on the move?

Take it easy Premiers 08. Who is going to be premiers? The MCC or MFC? Id suggest next year the MCC probably has a better chance than the MFC, but I'm a MFC supporter so I'll be cheering them on to beat the more fancied MCC.

Anyway the rumour was aired on 3AW this morning. From all reports Beverly O'Connor made a remark saying she is keen to become the AFL's first ever female president.

It would be no different to our current Chairman in that it would be a PR type chairman. I'd certainly support any move Bev made at becoming the first female president of our club. She is a leftover from the Gutnick days and has many rivals on the board.

We havent exactly propelled far forward from 2000 both on and off the field. So why not give Bev a try.

She would have Redleg's vote

I'm all for women playing a bigger role in the AFL, but I think Gardner's experience in advertising and the media is very important to a club that is under-exposed at the best of times.

Having said that, I'd definitely support Bev. It's about time women were taken seriously in this sport!

not that I particularly think Gardner is going anywhere and I think he's doing quite ok.,, but Bev is a nother beast entirely. She is , how shall I put this ..much more of a footy person. Paul hangs back some ( that sfine ) . I would think Bev might be a bit mor ehands on !! Just a personal observation :)

Ok I will play this silly game, if the Prez stood down and Bev was appointed we would be the laughing stock of the AFL, good looks for her age but no substance for that role, she would be eaten alive (no pun intended) I'm sorry but we would have to do better than Bev.

Why Jaded?....because she is a woman? She has been on the board since the Gutnick days and the club is in the same position. If she were to become president of our club it would make me sick to my stomach. We would be the laughing stock of the AFL if she were ever elected president.

Wow, aren't you classy.

Please try not to go straight to discussing looks and dropping stupid innuendos as soon as a woman is mentioned.

I'd be interested if you have some info on her relative experience/resume compared to Gardner, or the off field leadership at other clubs.

Imagine if we said we'd not support her because she was a women :o

I want the best person for the job, regardless of gender.

The fact that O'Connor is a woman should have zilch to do with it.

I have always been impressed when Bev speaks. I think she shows surprising authority.

Great judgment can be better than business knowledge. After all, a "B grade" actor was considered a very successful President of the US. And Arni is considered a pretty good Governor of Califoorrnya (that's my attempt to show his accent). (There's Jessy(?),The Body too.)

Have Gardiner's business and advertising talents helped MFC? That's not a loaded question - I really am asking.

Doh, if you think Bev has the same or higher experience than PG then you are in la la world, she has the passion of the club at heart I give you, but not to be Prez. So you never have discussed looks as soon as a female/male is mentioned before? bet you have !!

PLEASE can this be wrong. if anything, our club is financially rebuilding, if we disregard this year to poor on field performance.

gardner has done a great job and will continue to do so in my belief. he has been lifting us up since the horrible salary cap days and we are slowly working our way out of debt. STAY GARDNEY if your watching!!

btw, calm down Premiers '08, he said that it was a rumour, not fact, but a rumour is still a rumour so that's why i worry slightly.

Yeah, I'd support her because she is a women and us feminists need to stick together

Bev has been part of our club for a long time and is very passionate about Melbourne. She also has experience in the media.

If she was elected by the board I would support her because I support anyone involved with this club.

Of course if she was elected by the board it would be great, from my point of view, to have a woman in charge of an AFL club. It's an added bonus, but it does nothing to help her overall credentials.

I hope its CEO Harris that is rumoured to leave.

He is apparently so hard to deal with that 80 - 90 percent of our staff have left since he came on board.

Used to be in charge of The Age and he really rubs people the wrong way.

The AFL have been concerned with our massive turnover, and its no wonder. It's a problem that needs to be fixed, costs a

sh!tload of many to replace people.

And we are on a tight budget...

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
