Frawley or Petterd

Rumours are always rife at this time of year, but after hearing the rumour that we could be willing to trade either Frawley or Ricky to the Saints for Pick 9, I am posing the question....

Who would you be willing to let go, remembering that we will most likely be off-loading the pick to the WCE....

I would be spewing if we got rid of Petterd!!!

The kid was one of the shining lights of our season IMHO..... Only a shocking injury/illness robbed him of a stellar debut year....

Frawley is another one who I would be loathe to get rid of.... The kid has a big future and I would like to see him in the Red 'n Blue for a long time!

I think this rumour is rubbish because it doesn't stand up to logic on two counts.

Firstly both players are worth more than pick 9. Frawley was pick 12 last year in a stronger draft than this year. He's had a year of development and shown that he deserves the high rating he got from a number of clubs last year. Ricky is a better player than David Armitage who was taken at 9 last year by the Saints. He's had a years development. Pick 9 is not high enough for either.

Secondly WC have said they want youth to replace Judd. Either early draft picks or young players fit the bill. Why would we involve Saints when Petterd or Frawley would both be high on WC's agenda? Again given the lack of strength in this years draft, WC would prefer either player to pick 9.

Like I said in the other thread, Petterd easily.

He actually reminds me of a smaller version of Rivers, by how he reads the play and uses the ball.

Petterd is an intelligent footballer.

I agree with that, but 'smaller' is a very operative word. If he were Rivers' size there would be no contest. As it stands, we desperately need key defenders, so Frawley should be kept.

The top bunch in this years draft are nearly, if not as good as any other year. The problem is a lack of depth. With some very good WA lads on the table (Palmer, Moreton, Masten), expect WC to want to get its hand in the cookie jar as early as it can.

They will definitely get Masten at pick 4, and tyhere is a chance that Palmer will slip to 9

Morton will go at pick 3 so they will just miss out on him

I don't want to lose any of our kids! The last 4 years of danihers time we at least recruited somewhere near the right direction.

I'd rather even at the expense of games experience, let Travis, Bruce, Yze, White, Robbo, & even Green go to aquire that Judd boy. But definately not our youth!

What they're worth is a very relative term. St Kilda has obvisouly said they're interested in Frawley or Petterd and will do a straight swap for pick 9. If West Coast is willing to take picks 4 and 9 for Judd then I think we're getting off pretty lightly. It's obviously the best deal that we can get for a 2nd top 10 pick that West Coast are after. Other clubs with top picks must be asking for more than that, or otherwise indicated that they're completely off the table. You must remember that we're in well and truly the worst position in this case because we need that pick to do the Judd deal.

Personally I'd give up Frawley.

Petterd is an intelligent footballer.

Yep, that's the clincher for me.

Mind you, I wouldn't say Frawley isn't, but Petterd just looks so calm so often, and gets right on with it.

It's strange but while I like Frawley as a prospect, I just haven't developed an attachment to him yet.

So for me, on both a list and emotional level, I'd be keeping Petterd.

And because his name is fun to say.

As a side note, I'd rather be saying goodbye to Johnstone, particularly if Judd was coming on board.

Neither of them are going because Judd is not going to choose Melbourne.

What's with your constant negativity regarding the Judd issue? You could be right, however there's a very good chance you could also be wrong.....so why the definitive statement hmm? (Especially when ppl like Whispers and BT are stating the opposite?)

It's not that I know Judd is not going to choose Melbourne, I'm just not getting hyped about the possibility. Being positive about your team winning the flag is fine, but being positive about a player coming to your club isn't. I just think people are setting themselves up to be really, really let-down. Positivity is fine when it's in regards to the club, but when its having faith as to whether a player is going to choose us, well, I think it's a little silly. I'm just not all that confident he'll be at MFC next year. But god, I hope I'm wrong, believe me.

Thirdly, if we are to acquire Judd, we need to free up room in our salary cap for not only Judd, but our emerging young talent. It would make more sense to trade Johnstone and Robertson ahead of any developing players.

It's Petterd for me.

Haven't seen enough from Frawley to make me want to choose him, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't have what it takes.

I'm just going by what we've seen, rather than what we 'might' see in the years to come as some of you have done.

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
