To put it into persepective for the young 'uns, its like Simon Godfrey or Ryan Ferguson getting a senior coaching gig 15 years down the track, no offence to those two guys but thats about where Bailey was in Essendons pecking order back then in terms of skill and leadership...

Tim Watson was a fair way higher up the pecking order at Essendon in terms of skill and leadership....he really turned St Kilda around didn't he!!

Think of it, Miller at home thinking of the days where he stared at Mt gravatt, so off he goes to the melbourne board and tells them that if they don't hire bailey he will make them pay whilst shaking a fist at them, now miller is at home one happy camper. :)

Well, this can't hurt Miller's career, which is not a bad thing.... unless Bailey thinks he's rubbish and delists him.

Fantastic to welcome an old champion back to the club.

I'll never forget the 1987 night grand final when Bailey kicked the winning goal for the Dees on that cold night in April at Waverly Park.

I've got no idea what to expect from Bailey. I'll reserve my opinion till late into the pre-season and the first few rounds of 2008.

We all know what the club needs, it's just a matter of whether Bailey can establish and deliver it. Let's wait and see...

It's not till tomorrow though.

I think Bailey will come down and speak to the team before they go on holidays next week.

Then he can concentrate on Port's final campaign (they are a chance to go all the way!) and still have a few weeks to prepare for the pre-season from hell.

Dean is already free of his PA obligations - hence the reason the announcement was made early. PA sacked him so he could get on and start the new phase in his life and our club. Guess he will probably go to the game on Sunday and so now what do the players do? They will have to go hard to impress for their spots in the club - does that mean we will win?????

I am on the fence in this tanking thing... I want the draft picks - the best possible ones but dont like to see the club lose either. It will be ridiculous if we are level and Carlton kicks the ball to our end instead of their own....I believe they are doing their utmost to lose this game on Sunday with the team they picked- half our best 22 is in the medical rooms!!

Do not be surprised if the AFL have a chat to both lubs and say "good luck on sunday, we will be watching what should be a facinating game) read this as (if we think you tank this game, we will take those picks off you). Well i hope so anyway. demitrou publicly will say that teams don't tank but behind closed doors would believe that the blues will be.

Congrats and Welcome to the club Dean.

Very very happy about this decision. After Ratten was gone, i wanted to get Bailey or Hardwick, a slight risk to it but im glad we went with Bailey.

Anyone know when the dees are going to hold an official press conference to introduce Bailey and welcome him?

I really want to see it and hear him speak.

Mark my words.... Living here in Adelaide and being involved in local footy has given me a nice insight into the workings of Dean Bailey.....

The bloke was a shyte player, but his coaching prospects are enormous! Mark Williams is no mug! Port have done some amazing things over the last 5 years and Bailey has flown under the radar a bit in the media....

He is the real deal...

You named two out of the five on the shortlist. Riley was a dead duck, so essentially you had a 50% chance of being correct. Nice toss of the coin ;)
