Coaching decision to be made tomorrow night, announcement early next week

The plan was always to make an announcement on the week of Sep 4th, so I don't think it says anything about the appointment itself.

I know the rumours about Sheedy are strong, but they were strong about Connolly too remember.

They might also announce Chris Fagan's replacement...

The thing is if they announce it next week it narrows it down to Riley, Connoly and Sheedy as Hardwick and Bailey both have final series to play out. Out of those 3 I'd say sheedy, possibly Connoly but we all know Riley is there as a formality...

I don't want Sheedy not after his poor coaching on the game against Richmond.

I think he is a poor coach now days, just look at how well the Bombers have gone this year compared to Port Power where Bailey is at.

I also read he doesn't win as many games as he used to from this site under 50%.

Sure Sheedy has won 4 Premierships but those were ages ago, does this show us something that maybe he has lost it?

Plus the Bombers won't make the 8 this year.

It anoys me that Sheedy and Pagan are simular yet Pagan is the one who didn't get talked to by anyone,I like Pagan as a person better,he won 2 Premierships and he isn't as rude as Sheedy.

Thanks mate for the info.

Im downright confused and now unsure whats going to happen.

Last week..confident that sheedy would of been our man, now not as sure?

Oh dear i dont know???

Doesnt matter to me who it is because i will support the club no matter what, but i just cant wait to find out who it will be, im excited about this off-season.

Very tense isn't it? I can't wait for the announcement - it is like waiting to open presents on Christmas Day - just hoping it is want you really want and not some crap gift - can't even exchange it in this case.

Interesting all the polls I have seen (2 of them! - the one here and the one from the Herald Sun) have Kevin Sheedy as an overwhelming favourite to get the nod - just hope they are right!

Go Sheeds!!!!!!

Greg Denham on SEN has just said mail is that it is shaping as preference of Connolly and Bailey as top 2 from the selection committee.

Next few days going to be lots of speculation & rumours. Time for a deep breath!!

General view seems to be that MFC process has been very sound and timing also good.

PG has said in paper today that any of the 5 who presented would be a sound choice & could coach the Dees. No doubt that is technically so. Issue will be what structure MFC Board (and AFL) is prepared to put in to support the Footy Dept. Change of coach alone wll not ensure success.

funny that you speak about premierships being ages ago...7 years ago he won a premiership and 2001 they were massive flag contenders as well only to be pipped by brisbane.

then you look at melbourne...we'v made 2 grandfinals since 1964 and won 0 premiership in last 43 years.

i think you should rethink your idea of what ages is.

27 years. 4 premiership.22 finals series. grandfinal every 5 years.

Oh no please not connolly.

The good thing about Sheedy is that I think he would find a new passion for footycoaching being at a new club. He would have a a whole new playing list to work with and for someone that has been coaching the same team longer than I have been living it has to generate some new passion i would have thought.

Would love Sheedy as long he doesn't go crazy recruiting dud rejects from other clubs like he has done at Essendon in recent years.

If i see equivalents of Heffernan, Matt Allan, Scott Camporeale, Richard Cole, Mark Alvey etc on our list next year I will bleed.

Its Sheedy or Hardwick for me, if we are going to go with an expirienced coach id rather Sheedy than Connolly.

If we are going for a first timer id rather Hardwick than Bailey.

Riley is there to be polite.

I think the worst mistake that the MFC can make would be to appoint Connolly. He has no proven record and has had a very good list a Freo and could get them deep in the Finals during his time there. He could do the same thing with Melbourne and no-one wants another few mediocre years.

I would basically be happy with anyone except for Connolly. I would even have faith in Riley if he for some reason got the gig as you can't take these performances as a good reflection on his coaching abitlity as the players would still be playing the Daniher style when under pressure and let's face it, that's pretty much all the time at the moment as our foot/hand skills are the worst I have seen at MFC in a long time. We have at least 10 Paul Hopgoods running around each week.

Quite possible. Problem is we have already had Heffernan and he went from Premiership player to slowest player in AFL within no space of time at all.

I don't think that Sheeds would have total control of the recruiting/draft process, unless that is one thing we stupidly give up as part of his contract if we are signing him?

does anyone on these forums not mind if Chris Connolly is appointed as the Demons coach?

And what are your reasons for not liking him and what are your reasons for liking him?

I think we can be forgiven for recruiting Heffernan when we did as he appeared to a player of considerable talent however Essendons most recent appointment of him after 3 of the most pathetic seasons by a player in red and blue i can remember was nothing short of disgraceful

News report on the same station had Sheedy and Bailey as front runners. I suppose it depends on your source!

I'm pretty confident that Denham doesn't have a source, so he's repeating what he hears in the grapevine.

The fact that we can't get any information at all that is not completely contradictory to everything else around is a credit to the club's ability to keep private matters private.

Well done for the comment on the fact that privacy seems to have been maintained. I agree on denham - he generally repeats the last thing he heard somewhere on SEN.

If Bailey is appointed people should wait and judge.

When Clarkson was appointed there was general uproar, esp. from the likes of staunch hawks in the media, eg 'Quaters', who know nothing.

At the end of Clarkson's first year at the Hawks, not a huge success, I walked past him on a beach in Qld during Grand Final week - he was minding his young children and reading a book on coaching.

My impression- this guy's committed.

Now he's got them top 4 and cruising .

If it's an unknown, .lets trust the process.

G.Lyon won't sign off on a dud IMO. I'd be happy with another smart coach like Clarkson.

Hang on, didn't he employ Hardwick?

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
