Bond is a worry, at AFL level as a Player or coach has he had finals success, or been at clubs with big winning cultures. That is what we need a winnimg culture at our club hen losing is not acceptable. Sheedy comes from a club that he instilled tgis and Mckenna has been around it at the Eagles and now the Pies. Connolly didn't have it a freo and it was his downfall in the end. So, IMO the choice is down to two, Riley is ND mark 2 so we need either Sheedy or Mckenna

What do you have against Connolly?

He's the only coach on the short-list who is a proven failure.

Couldn't be successful at a bigger, richer, better equiped and more supported club.

What sort of miracles could he work at Melbourne?

My bet is Bond will get the job.

sheedy has been quite these couple of weeks. though him dropping david hille, jobe watson and damien pevrill really turned me off as all three have probably been essendons best!!

what happened to todd viney and mark williams??

What was evident last night was that Melbourne just need to get back to basics.

No fancy game plans or set plays, just keep things simple.

I just hope that whoever comes in to coach doesn't feel that they have to justify their selection by trying to change things too much.

you're dead right ...and to add to that...we need the basics skills to do that. WE DONT HAVE THEM!!

We constantly turn over the pill

We cant ruck to advantage

We cant kick for [censored].

We hospital handpass

We make very poor decisions about to whom and under what circumstances the bal wil be forwarded.

Needless kicks to unbalanced contestes etc etc etc..

Not just based on last nights game... much can be 'described' as simply being tired last night.

What is wrong with Melbourne ?

We play a [censored] brand of footy....... its as simple as that!!

The incoming coach will need to start from scratch. Keep it simple as alluded in above post.

Once we get that under control we can start building an 'effective' set of game plans and techniques.

It's expected that five candidates, probably Chris Connolly, Mark Riley, Chris Bond, Kevin Sheedy and Guy McKenna, will be short-listed.

to me this doesn't mean that these are definately the final 5... this is the 5 that the media expect will be on the shortlist, however the media think they know more than they actually do... don't be surprised if a smokey or two have made it onto the short list... bailey from port is rumoured to be in the mix, and don't discount sumich either...

This is the first and best indication that Sheedy may be very high in the race for the Melbourne job. What a nice present it would be if he delivered Carlton a win today.....

If they are the choices, then let us pray to God we get Sheedy

Riley = never played at the highest level; assistant for a number of years; 3 finals appearances

Bond = a distinct lack of success over a 160 game playing career at Carlton, Richmond and Fremantle; an assistant at the Dogs since 02; 1 finals appearance.

McKenna = a glittering playing career including 2 flags; a very poor record as an assistant with the WCE (no finals appearances); a poor record as coach of Claremont; 1 finals appearance as an assistant at Collingwood in four years.

Connolly = no finals as a player; an iffy record with the Dockers (2 finals in 6 seasons)

Sheedy = 3 flags as a player; 4 as a coach; has developed plenty of other senior coaches (Williams, Pagan, Harvey, Thompson, Daniher etc).

Surely this could not be a difficult decision. If that is the shortlist then this is a no-brainer!

A lot, he use to teach at my school and when he was coaching the eastern rangers i had mates there and he was awful, then he tried to coach our school football side, had a list of where every one played at their clubs and he still put us in the wrong positions, but all of that means nothing really, just look at the record with the shockers, undiscipline rabble! who can't win away from subi!

Dees narrow it down

The five remaining candidates for the coaching job -

  • Chris Bond
  • Chris Connolly
  • Guy McKenna
  • Mark Riley
  • Kevin Sheedy

Interesting. I'm not sure who'd I'd want. But what happened to Viney's name. He had a meeting at Harris's house and wasn't mentioned since. Also what about mark Williams. I mean he's proved he can coach well, I don't care itr's only Sandringham but it's also showed he can work well with the melbourne players as well as the sandy ones and he's won 3 flags. I'd would have liked to see a melbourne name in there. I know Connoly played for us but Viney would have been great.

According to Hutchy in the Sunday Age today, Bond and McKenna are definitely out of the race! Apparently they have already been told. Sheedy, Connolly, Riley and Dean Bailey (another who played under Sheedy!) are those mentioned as probably being on the list of five. He doesn't mention anyone else.

Can't speak for his media acumen or marketability, but Dean Bailey is a very, very, very good football brain. I'd also like to point out that the description of Chris Connolly as a failure is extremely penal. He took a 2-20 club to 9 wins in his first season, got them to the finals ahead of schedule the next year and then they had two solid and unlucky years when they finished 9th, a great season last year and then they have had a poor year this year, albeit when expectation was rife, when the Wiz hasn't played and they havent been able to refresh their midfield in the draft. To be so negative to the man is a bit unfair, but I guess there is no way to censor the moronerator.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
