"if you could coach carlton or melbourne next year, who would you take?" jaka...... "carlton". "you think their list is better than the demons?" jaka........ "right now, yes"

interesting.............

He was watching us get flogged. His freshest memory of a bad team playing was playing out right in front of him. Your team is always going to compare unfavourably in that light, rightly or wrongly.

Throwaway comment from a boring commentator.

I would think commentators who don't see all the games every week, would probably just make a decision based on what they may have viewed that round. Carlton had a crack this week, we didn't. That may change next week.

Yep, carlton at least really had a dip.

l really have trouble understanding how they are so fragile mentally, they need a hardarse coach, ND was too soft on the leaders and Riley is a clone

Yep. I heard it. Hard to believe isn't it? Or maybe as Demons supporters we are blind to the deficiencies of our list. Very little in the way of KPP's, a distinct lack of competitiveness, a lack of on field discipline and an amazing ability for senior players to make public comments about issues which should be kept in house. Our lack of on field leadership is abundantly evident. Unfortunately, Jakovich could well be right.

Mclean and Sylvia are the same quality as murphey and gibbs...

i maintain that we have 3 potential A-graders of our list, mclean, sylvia and bate.

however i shoudlnt speak to soon, because 4 years ago we had 3 potential A-graders in Green, bruce and Johnstone...all 3 are bonafied B-graders

I think Sylvia can be a fine player but there is no way that he is as good as Murphy currently is or has the potential to reach.

McLean perhaps, but compare him to Murphy. Murphy has been tagged all year and he is still producing the goods, whereas McLean is struggling even though he's older.

Bate I'm not convinced he has what it takes to be an elite player, he definitely didn't show it today.

Totally agree, Jarka! You have a good grasp of where the list is at.

Yeah saw that match yesterday on TV, they certainly had a dip and almost won. They are showing a better attitude than our stupid attitude

@ this sad point in our history, I agree with Jaka

I hope the next 5 weeks go quick, then lets get the Sheedy/McKenna revival plan into action.

Something about years with 7 involved in them that haunts the Dee's.

The entire 70's a disgrace

1987 we where teased only to have our hearts ripped out @ the end

1997 another disaster with a mid year sacking

2007 this year rivals with the most painful in our history.

Bring on 2008

Gotta disagree with you Jarka, you're only basing Gibbs on his no.1 pick status and what he achieved in lower leagues, he hasn't shown enough at AFL level yet to have judgements placed on him on whether he'll be good or not.

Murphy has more natural ability than Brock (Though it's like comparing Hird to Ricciuto) but Sylvia has more natural ability than any player on our list and dare I say bar Fev more than any on Carltons.

And I'd have our list over Carltons any day of the week. I see Sheahan mentioned future A grade players for Carlton the other day and had Betts as one  .

FYI I wouldn't have Flash as an A grade player, and he is far, far better than Betts.

Wind the clock back 7 days and Carlton got rolled by 20 goals.

Ratten did extremely well to turn a 20 goal defeat into a 10 point defeat in one week (against a good opponent).

Suddenly they're gallant in defeat, instead of insipid.

It's the demoralising 10+ goal losses that really hurt you in the long run.

I have to say that generally commentators don't trouble me too much, but I was less than enraptured with Jackovich throughout the call.

This particular comment didn't really help improve him to me, but I guess he was watching a fairly inept performance from a team that should be better.

That being said you do wonder if he was asked the same question while watching Carlton last week against the Lions, would he have said Melbourne?

i watched the game with the brilliant foxtel active function 'audio' option.

all i can say is, wow, when the commentators shut up, your head can relax and you can actually take in the game, it's fantastic. i just hope that it somehow gets registered and they get figures about how many people do the same. grybas' barracking in the last quarter was a joke, but then again, so is his commentary week-in week-out. you guys should do the same

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

A couple of intrepid Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock for the midweek Preseason Training Session to bring you the following observations. Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
