What are eveyone's thoughts on the BYRONATOR!!

  1. Keep him another year. Assuming he has a big pre-season, he still has a good 1-2 years of exciting and intimidating footy - Circa round 5-15 2006. Could be one of the many absentees of 2007 to help rise us up the ladder.

  2. No sack the bloke. He "scammed the footy club $300,000", took the money and ran. Totally unprofessional, gets on the [censored] the night before a game, fat, lazy, not interested....etc....
Discuss.

I raised the same topic on a thread relating to Kevin Sheedy. I personally believe that our future coach will have a lot to do with Byron's future. I think Kevin Sheedy could work wonders with Byron. As others as pointed out, the main thing that needs to be established is that Byron needs to WANT a future as a footballer. I am not sure how he has been going at Sandy - hopefully the passion still lingers as on his day he can still mix it with the best. We just can't afford for him to only have two or three days a season.

If, however, he can't reignite the passion required to play the game, then he can expect a call from Gretel...........It's time to go................BYRON!

Delist, we need to build for the future, choppy would be good if we were challenging this year or even next but realistically that's not the case. We need to delist a whole group of 28 and over guys and rebuild a team with better leadership and commitment.

Great player in his day but that day has gone.

any play 30 years and older who isnt integral to our team should be seriously considered to be delisted at years end.

Even if they still have the ability to contribute, the fact that these guyz wont be around in 2 years time means that younger players should be given preference!

- Ward, Brown, Pickett, Bizzel, Holland and Yze are the group of depth +30 players. of that group 4 should be delisted at least.

- Ferguson and Neville are the other 2 players obviously to be delisted. this will free up 6 spots to use of draftees.

- Others to go if we need more spots for draftees come from the group that includes Miller, Jamar, Warnock and C.Johnson

however our first group of players to be culled for next year must be the +30 group. i see pickett as the first player our new coach will see out of that group. He is an obvious delisting

Delist

if he shows no respect to the club through his performance and conditioning, i dont see why we need to show any to him. the guy can jump, his performance against richmond (albeit everyone else was god awful) still makes my blood boil.

AMEN!

Of those 30 or older, only Neita, McDonland and White should be kept on the list.

Unfortunately for us, but luckily for Yze, he's contracted.

Pickett is gone. Can't even get a game in the biggest tanking match of the year so far.

He's done for.

Delist. Especially when he had to ask former Kangaroos teammates what he should do. When they said "Choppy, no one else will pick you up", he said, "you're right, I'd better pull my head in", he'd finished in my eyes.

He was gone before then. When he rolled up fat and flabby to pre season the signs were ominous.

Oh, was that the first time ?

What would your reaction be if we actually retained him for next year?

Any form of protest?

Not renew membership?

McDonland

Who? That makes it about 17 times now :P

Pickett is gone. If you're on the wrong side of 30 and you spend more time out of the senior side than in it due to form and fitness then you're pretty much stuffed.

He was recruited to add hardness to the team for a shot at a premiership. That time has passed now.

Played pretty well (last year). Really disappointed with his application more than anything else this year. I find it difficult to think of any circumstance in which he could be playing AFL next year. Not just with Melbourne but with anyone.

Even if we were having a shot at a premiership his lack of application and performance would condemn him to the scrap heap anyway.

Disappointment. And a hope that the new coach has got it right.

Any form of protest? Would that help or be relevant?

Not renew membership? What would that sort of hissyfit achieve? We keep a dud player and the Club is one membership less.

Agree, I've never understood that mentality. Seems petty to me.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
