TRAINING: Captain's Run 23 April 2026

Featured Replies

26 at the Captain's Run - From last week's team, no Petty - Additions CJ, Henderson, Cross and Adams.

Our guess is:

Out: Petty, Laurie

In: CJ, Henderson

No TMac today.

Left field would be Adams in as a straight swap for Petty, but not sure Richmond pose the same threat as Richmond up forward.

No rehabbers present today. Langdon still with the (8) backs, so suspect Adams will be an emergency along with Cross and Laurie.

Looks like still two rucks again, although Heath would always be an emergency of course if Max is going it alone.....

Stiff on Laurie. One low disposal guy for another. Mind you, I think Hendo has something and am a bigger fan than most

can see adams in for petty. perfect game for him to get some exposure at the level.

hendo i can see fitting with kings game plan so makes sense now that hes fit again, especially with his left foot.

I’m a fan too

He was best on in the 2024 VFL GF with something like 20 disposals and two goals

Playing in a poor side and then battling injuries probably put a cap on his impact last year, but reckon he looks the type who could slot in well in King’s system now that he seems to be injury free

Been told they're SUPER keen to get Cross back in. If not this week, next.

Adams had 8 or 9 goals kicked on him a few weeks ago. He is FAR from ready

Why would that be the case Dannyz?

I am curious as they rate him fairly highly?

Pretty sure Hendo's a right-footer...

Lynch coming back to play on who? Sure he’s not what he used to be but I would’ve hoped it was Tmac on him tomorrow night.

The coaches really rate him and believe he has a high ceiling. He could become a midfielder which they want to expose at Casey but for now they think he shows Melksham-like forward craft.
Would have naturally kept his spot had he not hurt his thumb.

Underwhelming potential additions, maybe Cross the best of these.

McDonald should absolutely be in to play on Lynch.

What has happened to Lindsay - not on the injury list and not up for selection?

Lindsay has a "slight" groin issue - should of been on the injury list to be honest.

Sorry but they’re both not good enough

Laurie was okay last week & just because we’re playing a poor side, players still have to warrant selection

Disco or Lever I guess. Both are clever enough to zone off him and can compete in the air. Lever deep one on one can be a worry but with Disco, lever, Howes , taylor all above 190cm we should be ok to kill the marking threat

He wouldn't let Weitering take marks when he was around him during the Carlton game.

He's fast

RIP Laurie's career. Looks like he'll never get the chance to play two full games in a row.

Unfortunately yes, if he can't hold his spot against Richmond its curtains.

I like the idea of playing Disco on him. Gives up size but would be able to run off and set up rebound attacks beautifully. Worth the risk

Kade Chandler got through it. 10 games in four seasons playing as the sub with no consecutive games. Now he basically hasn't missed a game since 2023.

Kade clearly did enough in the 2022-23 offseason to force that round 1 spot. Our 2023 side could've (should've) won the flag, so it's full credit to him.

Laurie under a fresh coach and in a younger inexperienced team still couldn't find a spot for round 1 2026. I get that it seems harsh on him, but AFL is a cuthrough sport and the reality is he hasn't shown enough.

Our injury list has been an absolute dog's breakfast this year. Cross played three days after being listed as 2-3 weeks away last weekend. McAdam was 2-3 weeks for an eternity now TBC - no explanation given. Rivers is dropped, or injured, or perhaps not, now Lindsay in a similar boat. Makes a bit of a mockery of the fans IMO, not sure if it's deliberate or not and I know other clubs do similar things (hello Chris Scott and Geelong). But IMO - unacceptable.

Saw him do a few really nice things, he definitely looks a likely sort. Similar vibe and energy to Disco's debut for me.

Not sure I agree. I don't feel mocked. We don't expect the club to publish their tactics for the next game or exactly how they plan to shut down top oppo players. If reporters do ask, they get buried in waffle. Why is "who is going to play" such a big issue?

Who would have imagined, when the season kicked off early last month, that Melbourne would emerge from the opening six weeks with wins over both Queensland powerhouses? At the time, Gold Coast and Brisbane were the competition’s early pace-setters, the flavours of the month, and the prospect of the Demons toppling both within the course of a fortnight seemed remote. Yet here they are, banking those scalps alongside home victories over two traditional Victorian rivals and building a quietly impressive resume.
