I went to watch Richtank first to see how Lynch looked. I was quite shocked at the leisurely pace of training it appeared no more than a glorrified circle work drill of next to zero intensity. Lynch trained but didn't get out of second gear. Over at Gosch's the stark contrast was evident. There was zip, spring and an intensity somewhat business like in activities. Petty was in civies and did not train. Tom Campbell trained and completed running sessions. T.Mac also trained and Rivers looked unimpeded by his recent knee injury. C.j looks right as well. Lovely day to be ooot and abooot

Go Dees

Autumn in Victoria is beautiful. Easily the best season. The bonus is the Dees winning games.

You didn’t think to come over and introduce yourself? You’re scared of me, aren’t you?!

Glorious autumn day here at Gosch’s. I cycled down and got here early enough to see the girls train first. Looks like Paxy is going around again. Would she be the first W player to hit 100 games if she plays through? Boys on the track now.

Captain Kate likely to get there first - but both should get there this year. Massive achievement.

I am not worthy to share your omnipotent space Ghostly Delight!

Poor Luker: he’s feeling quite down. I’ve noticed he’s getting progressively less self-assured and his confidence has dropped. He said he’s sore in a few places, it’s not just his knee. The first thing he said to me was “You probably won’t see me for a couple of weeks.” I don’t know what that means but I’m thinking he suspects he’ll not be lining up for Casey this week 🤷‍♀️

He wasn't moving with anything like the same freedom as preseason, wouldn't surprise me at all if they give him a week off to really freshen up.

Big AJ seems a mystery injury/illness. Would love to have him back at Casey.

GW, do you think Luker was referring to his form - meaning you won’t be seeing him for a few weeks in the 1’s?

All rational DL posters GW included, understand that Sparrow might still choose to leave at year's end.

Love how hard and tough Tom is and how he generally goes about it but let's be honest: he's a good role player not exactly irreplaceable if he did decide to go.

We can't keep on replacing these so called "role" players. Sparrow is very much a required player.

AJ was moving well yesterday and did a lot more than the others doing the flush run - reckon he is still a chance to play Casey on Saturday (even though he wasn't there today)....

Richmond barely have one ruck - no need for Moose.

I initially thought the same but King mentioned he liked the structure it gave us keeping JvR, Mihocek and Jefferson down forward for longer.

If he does go out, JvR to chop out ruck? I'm not a huge fan of this with him finding some marking form up forward.

A lovely late morning at Gosch’s.

Oh, they are happy, boisterous and the joy they give to each other is genuine. All the exuberance happened at the end of the warm ups and drills. Then they got down to business, as the joviality left. The drills consisted of full field ball movement, some mild tackling, wrestling, keepings off, high ball marking, and getting slapped by a bag carrier.

The far side of the ground had the last line of defense with ball, trying to find outlet targets (fifty fifty outcomes, perhaps even less success) from the backline into a congested half field that looked like a structured sim. The defenders worked hard to hand over lead ups, and were very vocal.

They then got into two 5 minute sims. At the first stoppage, Henderson got the feed, wheeled and headed downfield. A few high marks (looking at you Turner), though most of the down the line kicks had a tall bring the ball to a front and centre position. The general structures appeared to use the boundaries, make overlaps, and used plenty of handballs. They used an open forward area and congested the midfield. Occasionally taking it central, especially when forward of the centre. Running and working hard, they showed pretty good skills, with minimal turnovers, though a low contact sim. Gawn against Heath, was an interesting match up. Gawn was on top but Heath was not far off (impacting the stoppages and defending the down the line balls). Cross was much better when in the forward area, in the back area he gets a bit lost. Jeffo doing well, Sparrow as well. Bowey playing well, gets to the right positions and is clean. They all seem to be on board with the system of play.

At the end they split into goal kickers, ruck working and low ball gathers.

The goal kickers were shooting from 40 out, not much mucking about on the boundary. 10 meters out from the goal square had them gather ground balls off taps from balls in and then snap. Lots of backs were on the goal-line defending. Much more sensible approach than the previous seasons (other than the Choco structured stuff, that was instructional), without too much interaction from the coaches. They don't use the GT stripped balls anymore.

The 50 odd fans/spectators were happy.

Ghostly Delight sounds like some kind of chocolate or sweet treat.

The boys are coming out now.

At the risk of resurrecting JuddGate, Spaz said he’s staying put.

Although we often go head to head, respect that you're posting this!

I agree and I don't want him to go but this is the reality of modern football with free agency

Anyone know who the assistant was out there today, in navy blue demons gear, grey hair and beard and looked from a distance at least to have King easily covered for height when their paths crossed? Kingy is 202 cm!

Ebony Marinoff (Adel) and Ally Anderson (Bris) both played their 100th game late last season.

Mark Jamar? He was there today.

May not be a need (and always wary of taking any opponent lightly), but might be a reaaaallly good opportunity to let Moose take 60% of the ruck and manage Max's minutes to give him a lighter load this week.

I suspect the plan is to give Moose the game time they expected to give him last week before that game got too tight to risk it.

But if that isn't the case with Lindsay potentially back in either he or Langdon could go on to a wing for at least part of the game and we could have a look at Culley as the back up ruck for some of the game.

Another big thanks to Ghostwriter, Harvey Wallbanger, Kev, all posters and special comments for another training day thread. Greatly appreciated.

Ps(that should read great training day thread).😁

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

Who would have imagined, when the season kicked off early last month, that Melbourne would emerge from the opening six weeks with wins over both Queensland powerhouses? At the time, Gold Coast and Brisbane were the competition’s early pace-setters, the flavours of the month, and the prospect of the Demons toppling both within the course of a fortnight seemed remote. Yet here they are, banking those scalps alongside home victories over two traditional Victorian rivals and building a quietly impressive resume.
