I thought he was pretty good actually. 23 disposals (18 kicks, 5 handballs), 8 marks, 10 intercept and third most fantasy points (though admittedly that's a rubbish measure) is a pretty good game for a key defender. As noted in the match report:

'Tom McDonald stood tall in defence and across the ground, using his experience to intercept strongly and provide a steady presence behind the ball. He collected 23 disposals, 10 intercept possessions and eight marks'

Some have been saying he is past it for 4 years. We have gone for a very fast backline this week. Let's see how that turns out, I would have preferred Toms sureness so lets see what happens.

Expected more changes when king was talking about the 5 day turn round and needing to manage players, in the end it’s just the forced change

I should say it was also built to play footy on

Off topic to an extent as he was clearly not going to play, but I think a lot really sleep on the positive impact that Petty brings - people want to jump on that he’s been terrible, but I couldn’t disagree more.

He’s had some egregiously bad moments that have directly resulted in goals being given up - but that’s all anyone wants to highlight.

He’s positioning, ability to compete, intercept & contest mark is extremely good, he tackles and competes on the ground and has a fantastic spoil - I really think he’s actually been solid/ok this season - don’t just look at the few errors (many players have made some absolute howlers that have resulted in goals against) and look more broadly at his impact on games.

I think he’s very underrated considering people have been calling for his head in a side where he’s played about five different positions & has had some great moments as well. I for one, think he’s an absolute walk up starter in this team.

No, I'm sure someone will ask the coach. But just remember these past few years he's been working with the master who hides player injuries

hope dees fans turn out in force tomorrow night and use their voices like we have every game we’ve played this year (at the mcg) I really be believe like the players and coaches say it helps and motivates the players even more. Be loud, be feral and let’s get it done dees

Trackwatchers reported this week that he's dealing with a groin injury.

I knew we would go small a backman for a backman seems fair although Henderson was a chance Jiath was the right move. Hopefully he doesn't stray his kicks.

One change off a 5 day break vs Richmond's 5 or 6? This could be ugly....

That Lions game will have taken it out of some of our guys. I'm staggered with the team

Your kidding me aren't you?

You think it’s something more than his groin?

It's a mystery to me...I haven't read the injury report.

Staggered that Adams is an emergency, Two weeks ago he was beaten by not one but two players and had about 8 or 9 kicked on him. Staggering really!

We are running out of players. I agree I think McDonald should be ahead of him. I think it says a lot about where King sees McDonald. Kentfield only touched it 4 times and Moniz-Wakefield had a shocker. Hopefully we don't get any injuries against the tigers and Bowey, Rivers and Lindsay can come back into the team along with Salem. Doubt Adams will be emergency then.

Ghostly Delight, Just speculating here but the groin injury stated could be a adductor longus, brevis or magnus. Can take some time to heal but if it is worse than that, it could be the start of Osteitis Pubis, which can take a lot longer to heal. Pubic Symphosis is just as bad and I watched him after his injury and he looked very sore and favouring his side, which is classic for the worse case injuries! Hopefully it is not as bad but dont hold ur breath!

I asked him if there’s any pain and he said “Yep there sure is, there’s a lot of pain.” 😕

Fresh legs ??? What bs

Who plays on Tom Lynch ???

Lindsay was rested or managed ?? So why not back in (especially as Laurie showed very little)

Hmmm. We lost to the Dons who were winless!! Don’t let lightning strike twice 🤬

Your better than this. Turner gets Lynch. Lynch is overrated he only kicks behinds anyway.

Definitely his groin. The physio told me this last week and X confirmed it yesterday.

At a guess I reckon he has cracked his Pubic Symphysis and if he has.... As Lurch would say.... UuuRRRRRRRRGGGHHHHH!

Thanks for your service, Tommy 🥳

F off,!

The amount of carry on about the lack of changes off the 5 day back is just funny to reach.

Everyone acting as if we're playing 24 hours after the Brisbane game.

Its still 5 days between games. The amount of recovery, hot and colds, massages these players go through everyday throughout the week just to be cherry ripe for the weekend is fairly relentless.

There is enough medicos and physios guiding the players each day but also keeping the coaches in thr loop with player recovery.

They will be fine.

Have any of you worried about fresh legs seen Richmond play this year? They’re awful. Woefully uncompetitive. And even with Lynch back, this week’s side is even worse than last week’s. They’ve made so many changes because half their side is injured.

I know it would be very Melbourne to lose this game, but we won’t. No chance whatsoever. Been a good while since we’ve come up against a team in this much disarray.

Loving Langdon down back

he could rejuvenate his career

He gets into those perfect outside positions doesn't he? He was so often the get out of jail hanball receive for defenders last Sunday. Knows when to generate width, he's always been brilliant at being that outlet handball receive.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
